5/$31, turning 26, just below a 10 and 5 guy. That's a little pricey, but I guess it'll work. :-\

Subject: lakers sign radmanovic
Body: Stojakovic, Radmanovic look to be on move

It appears that the first two shocks in NBA free agency will emanate from Serbia.

Indiana forward Peja Stojakovic, widely considered a lock to re-sign with the Pacers, is on the verge of a jump to the upstart New Orleans Hornets, ESPN.com has learned. NBA front-office sources indicate that the Hornets are offering Stojakovic a five-year deal in the $60 million range.

"The Hornets are setting their cap room aside for Peja, and Peja is taking himself off the market," Stojakovic's agent David Bauman told the Associated Press.

Sources also tell ESPN.com that the Los Angeles Lakers are close to swiping a player from their co-tenants in the Staples Center, but it's not Clippers guard Sam Cassell. The Lakers, sources said, were inching closer Saturday night to a verbal agreement with Clippers sharpshooter Vladimir Radmanovic on a five-year deal starting at the $5 million mid-level exception and worth in excess of $30 million.

The Hornets have never been known as offseason spenders with George Shinn in charge, but the owner has hinted recently that he was chasing "a big-name free agent," and his club does possess two crucial advantages in their bid to tempt Stojakovic away from the Pacers -- more than $15 million in available salary-cap space and a coach who knows the player well. Byron Scott, who received a three-year contract extension from the Hornets earlier this week, played against Stojakovic in Greece before the 29-year-old made the jump to the NBA in 1999 and later worked with him in Sacramento as a Kings assistant coach.

"This was not just a money deal," Bauman said of Stojakovic's decision. "He chose this deal because he thinks the team has a chance to win."

The Lakers' cause is also undoubtedly helped by a Serbian connection in attempting to convince Radmanovic to switch locker rooms at Staples. Serbian legend Vlade Divac, a former national-team colleague of Stojakovic and Radmanovic and now a member of the Lakers' front office, can explain to Radmanovic better than anyone how badly they need a dependable shooter to help space the floor for Kobe Bryant.

Divac has been hoping to bring Stojakovic to the Lakers ever since leaving Sacramento in the summer of 2004, but that would require a complicated sign-and-trade arrangement because L.A. can't offer more than the $5 million mid-level exception. Radmanovic, like Stojakovic a 6-foot-10 perimeter specialist, is a more realistic mid-level target after averaging 10.7 points (on 41.8 percent shooting from 3-point range) and 5.7 rebounds in 30 games with the Clippers.

"The decision was obviously a tough one for Vlade," said Bauman, who is also the agent for Radmanovic. "On the one hand, he had strong interest from the Clippers to entice him to remain. (Coach) Mike Dunleavy, (general manager) Elgin Baylor and (executive) Andy Roeser did everything conceivable to make Vladimir feel comfortable and convince him to return.

"At the same time, the Lakers and numerous other teams called just after 12 midnight Eastern time to express to Vladimir their strong interest in getting his services."

Bauman, who is also the agent for Stojakovic, added: "When Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson call your number at 6 o'clock on the morning of free agency, and you've got Vlade Divac, who's one of his idols, and Magic Johnson on standby, you tend to perk up and listen real hard and clear."

The Clips, craving a big forward who could stretch the floor for Elton Brand, dealt Chris Wilcox to Seattle on Feb. 14 for Radmanovic. The Clippers, according to multiple newspaper reports, have completed terms with Phoenix Suns forward Tim Thomas, who would replace Radmanovic, on a four-year deal in the $24 million range.

Re-signing Cassell and Radmanovic were the Clippers' top two offseason priorities and Cassell, in an ESPNEWS appearance Saturday, indicated that the Clips still have the inside track on retaining the 36-year-old point guard.

"It's looking pretty good for them," said Cassell, who recently hired high-powered NBA agent David Falk to secure him a two-year deal.

Stojakovic averaged 19.5 points and 6.2 rebounds in 40 games with Indiana after the Kings sent him to the Pacers on Jan. 25 in exchange for the mercurial Ron Artest. But a knee problem limited Stojakovic to two games in the Pacers' six-game, first-round series with New Jersey, and his departure would leave Indiana without anything to show for the Artest trade.

NBA signings and trades can't advance past the stage of verbal agreement until July 12.

"Lakers, Clippers Make Moves
Radmanovic signs with Lakers; Cassell on the way out as Clippers sign Suns' Thomas
By Mike Bresnahan and Jason Reid, Times Staff Writer
4:13 PM PDT, July 1, 2006

The Los Angeles Lakers moved quickly Saturday on the first day of free agency, addressing their need for outside shooting by snatching away a piece from their cross-town rival by agreeing to terms with three-point specialist Vladimir Radmanovic.

The Los Angeles Clippers also reacted quickly after Radmanovic and point guard Sam Cassell apparently reneged on agreements to stay with them, reaching terms with sharp-shooting forward Tim Thomas early Saturday.

Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy and the representatives of Thomas, a 6-foot-10 forward who revived his career with Phoenix late last season, completed a four-year, $24-million deal Saturday at about 12:30 a.m. The move capped a dizzying three-hour period in which the Clippers were informed Cassell and Radmanovic accepted and then rejected multi-year offers, sources said.

Radmanovic agreed Saturday to a five-year, $31-million contract with the Lakers, the same package the Clippers offered.

"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.

Radmanovic, who stretches defenses by luring post players away from the basket with his outside shot, has career averages of 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 38.1% shooting from three-point range.

Thomas, a nine-year veteran, who makes his off-season home in Los Angeles, played a key role in the Suns' run to the Western Conference finals. Thomas averaged 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and made 37.8% of his three-pointers as Phoenix defeated the Clippers in the semifinals.

Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 12.

"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said."

I'm lovin' this move. Just got back from Vegas...Whoever compared him to Peja, Peja is on a decline, Radmonavic is on an uprise...He is the shooter we needed, it's a decent contract... not too much, not too little. Seattle offered him much more, I guess he wanted to play alongside Kobe...I saw him coming up big as a Clipper these past playoffs...This just added another dimension to our team. Too bad about Cassell though...More on it tomorrow...PeACe

Yeah, Vladimir can shoot, so i'm happy about it. Now we have Cook and Radmanovic who can shoot from the perimeter.. it's looking good. But we ain't done yet, i'm sure about it. So let's wait and see.

Anyone tripping on this move doesn't know whats up...We gave Radmanovic a contract for about 6 million a year, he's worth more than that, he's basically taking a pay-cut to play on the Lakers. We just found our Toni Kukoc...Only he's a much better rebounder. Him and Odom can interchange at the 3 and 4, Phil will cherish that... I'm lovin' this move, it's also gunna improve the triangle so much with a pure shooter to space the court, and it's gunna improve Kobe so much, knowing he can drive to the basket and dish it out for an assist. I'm guessing Kobe will average 6+ assists this year...

PG Marcus Banks (?)...Smush Parker/Jordan Farmar
SG Kobe Bryant...Kareem Rush/Sasha Vujacic
SF Lamar Odom...Luke Walton/Maurice Evans
PF Vladamir Radmanovic...Brian Cook/Ronny Turiaf
C Kwame Brown...Chris Mihm/Andrew Bynum

Coach: Phil Jackson

It's looking nice, but i have a strong feeling Radmanovic will not be our starting PF.

Look, it might not be him, it might be Odom starting at power forward, or like I said, both of them interchanging at the 3 and 4, perfect for the triangle...Remember the 3peat Bulls? Kukoc and Pippen started at both forward spots...I really like the line-up, I believe we're now officially contenders...PeACe

Hmmm...That can be the case if we signed Radmanovic only to trade him. That would be kinda shady though. LOL. Radmanovic + Smush + George + Mihm + McKie + Future Picks for KG? Sounds more probable now...However, I am satasfied and don't think we'll be making any big trades anytime soon. Maybe we'll sign some key players, but a huge trade is currently looking pipe...PeACe
