Dubcnn hooked up with one of the West Coast's most underrated producers, DJ Crazy Toones. Having been in the game for almost two decades, and being one of the pioneers of the mixtape game on the West, Toones has alot to say.
In this interview, we bring you the whole story, from the Low Profile days, WC & The Maad Circle, Westside Connection, all the way to "Laugh Now Cry Later and his current mixtape "The CT Experience".
Most importantly, Crazy Toones spits alot of knowledge about the rap game, the mixtape circuit, and "unfinished demos".

Re-Read Jays Post.....i sense a faint rumbling in the distance....the sound of an impending strike...
-
he should just answer the mack10 question & stop avioding it.
-
How come you didn't ask my "is Ice Cube planning to tour Europe" question? ??? I really want to know that.
Anyway, good interview! Seems like Toones is really all about his music, and that's how it should be, dammit!
-
Well Cube is in Munich on the 15th of July with Toones but they're not performing or anything, just doing some press... But you know where you'll hear it first if a tour is planned!
-
^^^^Alright, thanks.
Kinda strange that they won't perform though. Since they're flying all the way to Germany, why not set up a small tour? Oh well, I guess I'll never understand the music business, lol.

I think it's kinda true that just putting songs back-to-back on a CD and shouting your name over them isn't really the way it should be done, for commercial mixtapes at least. It really shows when the DJ has actually put effort into selecting the songs and mixing the shit together compared to the easier way of just slamming tracks on a disc. And since the DJ always puts his name on the cover, it would be cool feel and hear his touch on the CD, not just hear his name over the songs. If your name's on the cover, make an effort on the disc. I could make a mixtape right now and slam my name on the cover with huge letters, while the ones really responsible for the vibes on it would be the artists whose songs I took.
-
^^ Yeah I feel you, I couldn't count all the mixtapes I've seen around where DJ's have blatantly stolen songs from dubcnn, and put them on there.
-
He shouldnt of ducked the Mack question when Cube's already dissed 10 savagely on 'click clack'. Tell it like it is.
Whats this about ghost producing?
But anyway regarding Alladin he was really an ill DJ.
He was winning DMC battles n shit defeating the likes of DJ Muggs etc..
He also produced the classic Ice-T album O.G.
Alladin should return to producing for the west.
Props for the interview.

I understand him not speaking on Mack 10. It's probably some beef, but he's not playing it up and parlaying it into a bunch of hype which I respect. I'm also glad he's stressing to people to be themselves and not automatically follow everybody elses formats. That's a huge problem in hip hop across the board. It's like he said, all the sudden not only did biting become acceptable, it became the cool thing to do.
I def want to hear his mixtape.
Great interview Nima. You're steady asking good in depth questions. Also, keeping it mostly about HIS business. I gained lots of knowledge about his history and where he's going. I had no idea Dub was his brother. Crazy.
-
Up!
-
Great interview. I'm glad you asked Toones about the old school mixtapes, one of my homies was telling me about them back in the day.
I met WC and DJ Crazy Toones at a power 106 show 8 years ago, they're both cool dudes that were willing to talk with their fans. Great interview. I finally got my copy of the CT experience 2 weeks after I order.
Crazy Toones, if you're reading this, there's a problem with the first song on the mixtape, where WC and Ice Cube are ripping the Mobb Deep beat. There is a ton of static in the background and it gets worse on the song following. Maybe it's just my copy, I dunno.
Also, have any of yall heard the 4 minute version of "The Autobiography" from the Shadiest One album? I've been looking for that song for 8 years and I can't find it anywhere. The version on the Shadiest One is only a minute and a half.
-
whats up with Mack 10?
-
Nice Interview! Good Read!
