Title: Is Lil Jon gonna take over the west?
Post by: Tha_Blaq_Sinattra on July 07, 2006, 09:45:24 AM
He seems to be focusing on the west right now. Can he get the same respect out here as a Battlecat, a Dre, a Quik etc? Personally my favorite West Coast joint by a non west producer is "Connected for life" by the Westside Connection feat Butch Cassidy, produced by Mannie fresh. That should have been saved for "Terrorist Threats".

Somethings off... you suggest Lil Jon taking over the west yet you compare him to So Cal producers.  From what I can tell the majority of his influence is in the Bay right now, so shouldnt the comparisons be made to producers like Rick Rock?  I'd say he could very well take over the Bay if he continues to invest in the Hyphy thing, but not The Westcoast.

I just asked the question, because I heard him say he wants to be big in the west. And the joint with Cube...I think he's saying "West Coast, ya'll need to come fuck with me"

As of right now that is true but Lil Johns beat might be catchy but their annoying and simple

But there some classic songs with simple beats. for instance-"rock the bells", "boyz in the hood", "Grindin"

The bay is the westcoast
But the Bay isn't the entire West Coast.

Most of his beats are good, it's the rapping over them thats annoying and simple.

in my opinion, i like the idea of more producers coming into the west and revolutioning the sound.. but lil jon for me dont do it.. yeh he has produced some neat tracks but like someone else said in this thread after a while they get played out and becoming pretty annoying.

go to church and snap yo fingers have uber simple beats, but their both great tracks, lil jon makes his artists sound great on them.

Most beats are simple, I think Dr Dre beats (1999+) are simple but everyone here thinks he's a genius.

let's be honest, Lil Jon's buzz is fading big time, just like 50 Cent

nobody's really cares anymore, that sound is played out

I got nothin against Lil Jon but I cringe when I hear those whining synths now, I've heard too much

You got a point, overexposure is the main killer or rappers. It's a shame, becuase Ive been wanting the Bay to blow for a long time, and he is the main machine behind that movement at the moment. He's doing beats on Turf Talk, Keak & Big Rich's upcoming albums, which a year ago would have been great news, but does anyone care anymore? Even worse, that Ice Cube & Snoop song never gets no play, and it's actually a great song. People are starting to lose interset in Lil' Jon big time.

^^ yup, it's pretty easy to see

I think you all agree when I say that you KNOW when an artist is hot in the mainstream

and right now, I really don't see anything big in rap, there's nothing dominant out there like 50 Cent was 02-04

nobody cares at all really, it's obvious, it doesn't take a genius to realize he's fading out

Why do people say things without any facts behind them. Crunk Juice sold over 2 million in the US,, E-40/Ice Cubes albums both executive produced by Lil jon are going gold, hes got a top 10 single on the billboard charts right now. And hes got a new album coming out in the fall. And the south is still the only coast selling well this year, most of which has the lil jon sound. So how can you say that.

"Crunk Juice" was how long ago?  ::)

I'm talking about blowing up buddy, not big in the Bay and the South

blowing the fuck up like G-Unit did, it's not gonna happen

Lil Jon's been out a couple years, people already heard his shit and he's either liked or a joke

I got nothin against him like I said, but you just know when someone has a buzz

he has no buzz nationally, so therefore nothing huge will probably happen

he had his time on the TV and shit, now he's probably gonna be mostly heard of behind the scenes

the guy will still make money or whatever I'm not saying he's finished...

just don't expect huge things, take what you can fuckin get

motherfuckers too picky these days, anticipating ground breaking material left and right like it's simple

yeah i agree with we$t coa$t, he'll still make plenty of money each year, like 50, its just that he wont be near as popular as he was at his peak... i have nothing against him either its just that hes putting out too much material too fast
