He came and he disappeared like a ghost into the night. According to the Hip Hop industry, he was born on November 16, 1999 and died 22 tracks later. But that's what they say. Mr. Brian Bailey, better known as Hittman, is still alive and active in 2006.
Dubcnn tracked down Hittman for an exclusive interview to talk about his time on Aftermath and what happened after that. We go back in time and talk about the "2001" album and all the wasted potential that came after. Hitt goes into details about his shelved album and why it never saw the light of day, and talks about his label situation and the lack of loyalty at Aftermath. We also look ahead to what the future will bring and discuss his upcoming projects as well as working on "Detox".
He's Big Hitt, don't confuse him wit no other by the flow motherfu*ker!

fuck it's pretty boring
seems like this guy's making too many excuses
what, is he the first to get fucked in the music industry?
sounds like he kinda got too greedy
-
so he is alive, going to read it now
who was the fan that asked that question? LMAO
great interview, props on asking everything, he does think VERY highly of himself though, nigga says he a combination of Snoop and Kurupt in their prime, damn
-
Great interview, great questions! Props Jay!
-
Wish Dre would stop with the solo albums.
Time for a huge mass collaboration album, from somebody, anybody!!!
-
Great interview, great questions! Props Jay!

first off major props on the interview. this is the reason why i check dubcnn! 8)
i guess there are a lot of unanswered questions still and always will be cos we'll never hear dre's side except some weak non-controversial sucking dre's dick sh*t from mellowman.
dude may think highly of himself (but who in this rap game doesn't) he might not be combination of kurupt and snoop in their prime but he is a fuckin' tight mc and i'd always check for his sh*t. any project involving him and mel-man has to be dopeness.
as for we$t coa$t's comments. fair point but aftermath has f**ked up much more established names who couldn't use their own names to secure releases or earlier releases (King T, Ra and Busta's wack album took 3 years!), this dude was at that time a young cat who got f**ked over and he is pretty honest in saying that it crushed him and he went into a shell for a minute. insofar as excuses go, it seems pretty plausible to me especially what he said about the labels requiring a formulaic approach to album making. the fact that he says he did not want to compromise is a good thing (if its true). the fact that we aint never heard nothing from him since is his choice man.
biggest things for me in this interview is excitement that we might hear some new sh*t from hitt (although i am sceptcal that anything will see the light of day) and not what might happen with the detox project. f**k detox i coud not give a sh*t about that and hitt being on it cos i've spent all the money i ever will on a dre project.
the other big thing that i feel after reading that sh*t is regret over what happened to aftermath as a label cos of dre (and/or jimmy). dre/jimmy (they may be one and same person) managed to take a label which had produced a couple of classics in 2001 and the MMLP and f**k it up with straight bullsh*t Truth Hurts, clowns like 50 and the Game (i know i will get hate for this but anyone who tells me Game was ready as an MC when his album came out is straight foolish, he maybe ready now, he wasnt then and the Documentary is weak despite the tight prodcution), weak eminem joints and the whole g-unit and shady circus (apart from obie). damn it is pitiful.
we should have had albums from King T, Hittman and aftermath backed releases by 6"2 and those other DFW cats D.O.C was down with back in 2002. I have to say i cannot understand cats who are disappointed that it never worked out with Ra on aftermath. damn Ra is hip hop. i do not believe that dre could ever do a dope universal hip hop album. what dre (seemed) to understand on 2001 was that he had to go back to gangsta sh*t. that is what he is dope at...

never knew he had other things going on!!! looking forward to his new shit!!! mel-man and hittman!!!
-
nice interview
-
Ice Cube now uses ghostwriters? if it's true, i wanna hear who these great ghost writers are.
Well Cube in a interview definetly needs to be asked if uses ghost writers, something i dont think he's ever been asked.
Tell him Hittamn said so lol
Lets see what kinda response he gives.
Hittman trying to say he didnt put out a record coz he didnt 'creatively' agree with his boss Dre lol No way that true man!
Why would you wreck a chance to make a lot of money, put out a record with Aftermath etc..coz you dont like what Dre wants it to sound like lol
An upcoming artist or even established artist Rakim that dont make the kinda quality work Dre approves of, well that record aint happening.
Hittman was ill on '2001' but it sounds like for a couple of reasons he could not carry a dope album all by himself.
It would be cool to see him return by droppin dope verses on other niggas records and re-introduce himself in to the rap game.
So he survived on the '2001' money, that sounds true enuff.
-
Great interview man, props

Nah, i doubt it very much.
-
people should comment more on the interview instead of saying "thank you for the interview"
-
Man I was waiting for some of them answers for a long time now... But there is one quastion that wasn't answered... Why wasn't he on the Up In Smoke Tour DVD ???... WHY ?!?!?!... he was on most of the songs but no appearence from him... WHY ?!
-
^ he was in the extras, but thats all
-
Keep it coming guys - yall whinged for YEARS about not having answers or ANYWORD from hitt...so what did DUBCNN do?! We went out and found him and presented this! if a thread about heresay and other shit get 100 replies this has more right to do the same...
-
sounds like he had some dope ideas but dre/jimmy prolly wanted him to do some corny-ass shit and he wasn't feeling that. the dude sacrificed potential fame for integrity and shame on dre for stopping his project. look foward to hearing his new stuff i was always feeling the bootleg although most ppl hated on it.
-
Damn man it sounds like he made a lot of excuses for himself and his arrogance was soaking through that interview.
I hope he gets his shit together, because he killed the chronic 2001.
-
Great interview, keep it up guys!
-
tight interview, props...
-
i like everthing i heard from hit, its grimmy west coast tagger/bboy/gangster shit like"my panse hang below my waist line/ i look humble on rumble i bang mine" so shit like that... dope shit, cant wait, i need to sign that boy. 8)
-
keep it coming
-
how was he born in the year 1999?
-
its an analogy...
-
Good interview.
I still think Hittman should have stuck it out on Aftermath, if Dre doesnt think your going in the right direction as a new comer you should listen and take advantage of what it says. its not like Rakim who has been in the game for a long time.
Surprised he said cube had a ghost writer.
-
wow, good interview
There was also a song called "Blaww" that I wanted on the album, over "What's the Difference". And we was having debates, and I was like 'Man, take my verse off that shit then, I dont like "What's the Difference"', that's how much I liked the other song better. He was like 'You sure, the verse is hot!", so he gave Xzibit the opportunity to shine.
so thats why his verse got taken off.
personally i like blaww more, but dres verse on whats the diff is :o
-
any word on Hitt's myspace which doesn't seem to exist (yet...) and any of these projects he was talking about in the interview dropping. can't help thinking we will never hear from dude again...
-
good interview
i have a feeling we wont hear much from this dude again.... even if we do it wont be the same....
