Title: Videos of the worst tackles/attacks in modern Football
Post by: Jome on July 11, 2006, 05:07:49 PM
I saw a list of some of the worst tackles/attacks in football history, but couldn't find links for all.
Some Norwegian newspaper ranked the tackles like this:

1. Harald Schumacher vs. Patrick Battiston
Battiston is knocked unconscious in this insane tackle attack by German goalkeeper Schumacher.
They put a oxygen mask on Battiston and took him straight to hospital with 3 missing teeth.
Schumacher is honored with the prize "The most hated man in France", finishing in front of Adolf Hitler.

2. Eric Cantona vs Matthew Simmons (From the audience)
Cantona is sent off, and when Simmons runs to the front row to tell Cantona something about his mother, Cantona loses it and attacks Simmons with a kung-fu kick.

3. Duncan Ferguson vs. John McStay (No video)
Dunc wasn't only sent off for brutally headbutting Raith Rovers player John McStay in 1994, but he also had to serve 44 days in jail, becoming the first Football player to be jailed for a incident on the pitch.
When he came out of jail, he was given a 12 match ban.

4. Roy Keane vs. Alf Inge Håland
Irish lunatic Keane ended fellow Norwegian lunatic Håland's career, with a tackle not even seen in rugby.
Keane revealed later in a book that the tackle was on purpose, and that Håland had it coming to him.

5. Andoni Goikoetxea vs. Diego Maradona (No video)
Goikoetxea broke Maradona's leg in 83, and then placed his own boot on his trophy shelf.

6. Diego Maradona vs. Batista (No video)
Maradona was sent off for a horrible tackle on Batista in 82.

7. Leonardo vs. Tab Ramos (No video)
Brazilian Leonardo elbows American Ramos in the head on purpose, causing Ramos a fracture in the skull.
Leonardo is sent off and banned for the rest of the tournament. (USA 94)

8. Benjamin Massing vs. Claudio Caniggia
Caniggia avoids being tackled twice, but Massing got other plans, Caniggia is going down at any cost!
Clear red card.

The worst thing is that Schumacher didn't have a yellow card AND NO foul was called  :grumpy:

Out of my mind:

1- Taribo West (Inter) on Kalchelskis (Fiorentina). He destroyed his leg.

2- Materazzi (Inter) on Poborsky (Lazio). He missed him, but it was dangerous as fuck.

3- Materazzi (Inter) on Ibrahimovic (Juventus). Thank God hi didn't break his foot.

Those 3 are probably the Serie A worst tackles of the recent years.

'

when i think about soccer i don't think about tackling being a huge part of the sport. our football on the other hand tackling is more than half of the sport so in essance why try differenciating the two

You have real Football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football), and you have American Football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Football), which descends from Rugby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_football), but for some reason they decided to call it "American Football", or briefly "Football", for American convenience matters.

Thing is.. everybody else outside U.S. (and their neighbouring countries which is highly influenced by U.S.) refers to the real ORIGINAL Football when they say Football, not American Football, get used to it. The world isn't going to say "Soccer" because U.S. finds it more convenient.  :nawty:

And for the record: Tackling is a very big part of Football (Yes, Soccer).

Keane should have been banned for life for that "foul".

This has nothing to do with sports anymore. I don´t get it.
