Marijuana Found in Carmelo Anthony's Car
LOCHBUIE, Colo. (AP) - Police found marijuana in Carmelo Anthony's car during a traffic stop, but the Denver Nuggets star wasn't in the vehicle at the time, officers said Tuesday.
Anthony and team officials refused to comment. Anthony is set to sign an $80 million, five-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Police said Tyler Brandon Smith, who identified himself as Anthony's friend and roommate, was pulled over late Sunday in this small town 20 miles northeast of Denver and cited for marijuana possession and three traffic infractions.
Police said Smith was driving the 2005 Dodge Magnum, which was registered to Anthony's company, Melo Enterprises. Police said two other men were in the car, but they were not cited and their names were not released.
Police Sgt. Dan Boyle said Smith was pulled over just before 11 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 76 in Lochbuie, a town of 3,300. An officer smelled marijuana and found a small amount in the center console of the car, Boyle said.
Smith was issued summonses for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving in the passing lane when prohibited, failing to drive in a single lane and failing to present proof of vehicle insurance.
Each charge is a misdemeanor. The marijuana charge carries a fine of up to $100 for conviction but no jail time.
Smith was released and the car was returned to him because his address was the same as Melo Enterprises, Boyle said.
No phone numbers were available for Smith or Melo Enterprises.
Bill Duffy, president of BDA Sports Management, which represents Anthony, told the Rocky Mountain News that Anthony was out of town Sunday and had nothing to do with the incident. Duffy did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
It was the second time Anthony has been linked to marijuana. In October 2004, Denver airport inspectors found marijuana in his backpack, but prosecutors dropped a drug charge after a friend said the marijuana was his and Anthony didn't know about it.
Anthony has also made headlines for a bar fight in New York and an appearance in a bootleg DVD in Baltimore in which a man threatened to kill drug snitches.
He averaged a career high in points last season and led the Nuggets to the top of the Northwest Division despite a rash of injuries.
First he gets caught with weed in his back-pack at the airport a few years back and says it's his friends' and now this...LOL. Well, at least he wasn't caught jacking off in his car... :laugh:

Smoke Weed. If caught, Blame your girl. Start your own internet label, post on a message board a million times a day and brag about how weed fatigued you so you cannot play basketball in college. (you could have always QUIT smoking weed, but of course, your an addict elior, so you dont know the meaning of QUIT)

I thought pretty much every NBA player smokes weed. I remember back in the 90's sports illustrated had some basketball interview and the guy said like 75% of the NBA is high when they play ball. Some of the best BB players from my highschool team played high every single game and claimed they couldn't play as well without it.

LOL...This is complete bullshit. I heard that rumor as well, but there's no truth to it...A few people smoke weed in the NBA, but rarely anyone smokes regularly and NO ONE smokes before games. There are heavy restrictions with weed in the NBA. Chris Andersen recently got a 2 year suspension for getting busted...The NBA is strict on that shit, and it's tough to maintain an NBA body/shape if you're a regular smoker. Also, pro Basketball is way too complex of a game to "play high"...
E-Krondon, I've had fatigue problems even before I started smoking, weed just fucks with your lung-power, especially if you smoke blunts. I said it's "ONE OF THE" reasons, not the only reason...Pay attention.

Make a thread in a basketball forum titled "75% of the NBA plays high" and see how fuckin' hard you get laughed at...Genius, there IS heavy restrictions on weed in the NBA, just because people get busted doesn't mean there's no consequences. Many players have been kicked out of the NBA for drug abuse, no coach/GM/owner would allow their player to even play for the team if they found out they smoked weed. You say I act like I'm an expert? No, it's just that what I'm saying is a lot more reasonable...When you play basketball, you have to remember plays, sets, you have to hustle the whole game back and forth down the court, it's tiring, who would want to be high doing all that?
