Title: Greatest East Coast Rapper Of All Time?
Post by: TraceOneInfinite Flat Earther 96' on July 20, 2006, 04:37:34 AM
Nas

...I know, I know, he is very inconsistent.  But he's had the greatest East Coast album ever, "Illmatic", and 4 other solid records in "It Was Written", "Stillmatic", "Lost Tapes" and "God's Son."

He's also done good work on guest appearances, and in groups like The Firm, stuff like that.

-He's an intelligent rapper, like he says, he's a "rappers rapper".

-His creativity in tracks like the one about his Gun on "It Was Written", probably gave 2pac his idea for "Me And My Girlfriend".  Also, he comes out every now and then with a track like, "My Book of Rhymes", that is really creative and pushes the envelop lyrically, and conceptually.

-What really made him great was when he came back from his wack Nas Escobar phase and dropped "Stillmatic".  That's when he really reclaimed the thrown.  Tracks like Poison ("What Goes Around Comes Around"), "One Mic", "Yur The Man".. .these are classic Nas tracks, introspective, lyrical.

-Nas is a great lyricist, and he's still around, holdin it down today, when everyone was gets away from the lyrics, Nas is always the rapper who is still mainstream, and still puts 100% into his lyrics.

and G Rap doesn´t? hell ALL of the New York rappers stole their style and lyrical content from him.

There would be no Nas, Biggie, Pac or Jigga without the GOAT Rakim. If any of you know about lyrical content and ryhme patterns you know Ra is untouchable. Don't just listen to Paid in Full (which is enough), check his whole body of work. Listen to every other rapper that calls him the greatest. And the best part about it is that he still demands respect even though he hasn't dropped an album in years, he still sell out shows, he still creates a buzz when his name is mentioned and he still hasn't given us his greatest album yet.....The Seventh Seal. Wait that shit drops...forget about it. So all you who think someone other than Ra is the greatest, have no clue what Rakim has done for and to this rap game.

I'd say Jay could be in there as the Greatest of the modern era but I don't think either has a right to be named "Greatest East Coast Rapper Of All Time".

biggie was fuckin great, he was impersonnating new york, he was not the best lyrically but he was fuckin tight he had a great flow and a great personnality. When i think of new york, i think of biggie

the best rapper from new york is rakim, followed by nas

other greats are biggie, gza, slick rick, krs one, kool keith, jay-z, kool g rap, big daddy kane, etc

the point was that BIG should not be mentioned, he was good - but not that good.  In fact for a thread like this there should be about 3, 4, maybe 5 names in the mix, no more.  BIG's name wouldn't/shouldn't be one of them.

and your opinion is wrong lmao.... dude could do everything...he may not of been the best in each catagory but he could do it all very good though.... as good as nas is his flow was nothing special... as good as rakim is he never made a crossover hit like big poppa that got love among the pop crowd and still got love in the streets.  Big deserves to be mentioned.  And anyone that disagrees was most likely a 2pac stan at one time or another and can never admit how good big is.  Or is either a jack off like mack 10

Untill go play your bagpipes or toss the taber around.

there have been several, but this will be the first mistake from you that I will highlight.

And it's strange how I believe Rakim to be a better contender for "Greatest East Coast Rapper Of All Time" rather than Biggie even tho Ra's career was mainly before Biggie's.  Seems to work against your theory.  Don't get me wrong, you did make some valid points but they were few and far between.

Then you would of realized the impact of biggie.

Yeh true, he did make an impact but that isn't the issue.

Also, I don't recall you proving me wrong AT ANY POINT during this, strange.  ???

You stating your opinion after I stated mine?  Was that perhaps you proving me wrong?  ???

How isnt impact a issue lolol.  The impact he made in such a short time period shows how great he was.  Look how many rappers bite his style lol.  The fact every rapper and there mother still mentions him shows how great he was.  Im not saying hes the greatest of all time but to try and say he doesnt even deserve to get mentioned and the fact he is over-rated.... thefuckouttahere

Nas

...I know, I know, he is very inconsistent.

What was the song called from STILLMATIC where Nas rapped the whole song backwards?

I stated an opinion on the 1st page, it was some asswipe that carried it on and dragged it out for another 2 pages.

BIG was amazing, he was one of those rappers like pac who would just grow and get better with each album, shame he had to go, opposite of most rappers like snoop who decline with each album

Ready to Die was much better than Life After Death, don't see too much growth there, or any reason for you to have come to that opinion.

^^I actually disagree with your comment, I think Life After Death was fuckin' amazing, there was a few fillers but if you look at the cd as a whole it was better than Ready To Die, but to each is own

Nas

...I know, I know, he is very inconsistent.

What was the song called from STILLMATIC where Nas rapped the whole song backwards?

He doesn't rap backwards he just tells the story backwards.
