hey homies i was just wonderin if ne of y'all knew what the top 10 best-selling rap albums were in order. I don't want to know which ones are certified the most times i just wanna know which ones have actually sold the most cuz the riaa is fucked up.
-
no one can tell, all the site have some different numbers, if the number are the same , it because one site bite on another one, but u may have a idea on it
-
I don't know the top 10 but both All Eyez On Me and Life After Death are 10X Platinum...If you wanna count MC Hammer as rap he was the first to go diamond at 10 million...I think Eminem's last album sold like 8.5 or 9 million and Nelly's album just went 8X platinum...
-
I know for a fact that Vanilla Ice - Too The Extreme is the highest selling rap album ever at about 15 million I think.

To The Extreme only sold 8 million, not 15 million. That album doesnt count anyway, cuz its not a true rap album, more of a pop album. 10 Best selling LEGIT rap albums, in no specific order:
2Pac--All Eyez On Me
Eminem--The MMLP
Biggie--Life After Death
Bone Thugs N Harmony--E.1999 Eternal
2Pac--Greatest Hits
Fugees--The Score
Snoop--Doggystyle
Dr. Dre--2001
Beastie Boys--License To Ill
Those are the 9 best selling rap albums ever, all of them sold 6 million or more. The 10th best selling rap album is actually several albums tied at 5 million..........

Bone Thugs N Harmony--E.1999 Eternal = Only 4 million
Even Too Short sold more; 5 mill.
Dr.Dre - The Chronic = 6 million
2Pac - Makaveli = 7 million
And for the rec. Em's MMLP sold 9,5 mill or sumthin like that
You better check them stats., as some rapper says.
-

No, YOU better check your stats, cuz they're waaaaaaay off. My stats are official numbers straight from Soundscan [my best friend works there, and he hooks me up with numbers all the time].
Makaveli--4 million [and its not gonna hit 5 million for awhile]
Too Short has NEVER made an album that sold more than 2 million.
The Chronic--about 5 million
MMLP--about 8.5 million
E.1999 Eternal--just under 8 million.
These ARE the official numbers, please dont try to argue and say otherwise......LMAO at Too Short selling more than E.1999 Eternal.......lol, E.1999 Eternal has sold more than all of Too Short's albums COMBINED.
-
Too Short has NEVER made an album that sold more than 2 million.
thats a joke right , cause short dogg already sold more than 2 milions , and by the way where is chase the cat spot at ???
-
Are we talkin just in the states or worldwide?
-

Too Short has sold more than 2 million TOTAL, but none of his albums individually have sold more than 2 million. His best selling album only sold 2 million, though he has a grip of albums that went gold or platinum.
And Suga Foot, I base all my sales stats in the states ONLY, cuz the sales are different in other countries. In the States, you have to sell 1 million units to go platinum. But in a country like Canada, I think have to sell only like 50,000 or something to go platinum. I forgot the exact number, but its far less than 1 million. To make things easier, I just count US sales only.

It's 100,000 in canada to go platinum. It's 1/10 of what it is in the states, cuz we have 1/10 the population.

I used Westcoast2K as source, and it says that 2 of Too Shorts album sold 5 mill. Maybe it's just a typo.
-
like it or no guys mc hammer , vanilla ice, and the beastie boys all count as rap records
i'm not sure what the exact standings are but all i know is that Please Hammer Don't Hurt em is 10.4 plat
from my guess it'd probaby be like this
1. Hammer-10.4
2. AEOM (it hasnt been updated since 98' and it has the biggest catalog sales of any rap record) 10 point somethin'
3. Biggy-10
4. eminem
5. beastie boys
6. nelly
7. vanilla ice
8. dr. dre 2001
9. fugees (i think it's 7 or 6.7)
10. fuck of i know

Yea, thats probably it, or maybe they were referring to worldwide sales.....I never go by worldwide sales though, cuz it gets too complex.....The Chronic MIGHT be at 6 million, cuz the numbers I have in front of me are about 6 months old, but at the time I got them, the Chronic was only at a little passed 5 mill.......Makaveli is definatly NOT at 7 million. Keep in mind, the album hit 4 million just before it went out of print a couple years ago. It was finally reissued back into stores about 8 months ago, so it lost 2 years worth of sales. Its sold a little over 4 million. The MMLP is at 8.5 million. Alot of sources list it as 9 million, but thats the total unites shipped. The actual units purchased is about half a million less. E.1999 Eternal is definatly passed 4 million, easily. It was at SIX million when Tha Crossroads blew up, and its been on the top selling rap catalog charts for over 4 years. The last official number I got was 7 million, but I think this album is damn near 8 million by now......and it still sells like 10,000 copies a week.
All Eyez On Me and Life After Death are the two best selling rap albums ever.
-
actually hellrazor e. 1999 eternal is like 6
when 1st of the month dropped they were gold, the they went 4x platnum after crossroads, so unless they go gold and platnum every year in back sales (which AEOM doesn't even do and it's the best selling rap catalog album) it's @ 6
when mtv did their top 100 videos of 1996 they had bone's album @ 4x
the january 97' issue of rolling stone has it @ 4
and billboard has it @ 4 in 96 and 97
i think your getting it's world wide sales confussed with it's US sales becase theres no way it's been going gold every year
-
Actually The Fugees The Score is the best selling album worldwide...It's like at 17 million...Hammer, Vanilla Ice and Doggystyle are after them in worldwide sales...

Naw, its definatly passed 6 mill......I got it at 7 million on the Soundscan sheet sitting right here in front of me, and these are US numbers only.....I have no idea what it is worldwide, probably a grip.
Remember, E.1999 Eternal sold over 430,000 in the first week alone. Thats almost gold right there. It was at least 5 million by the time Tha Crossroads blew up, and it stayed on the charts well into 97' [the release of AOW also helped increase its sales too]. I think the total chart time for Eternal, Billboard 200 and Catalog charts combined, is well passed 300 weeks........that easily puts it at 7 million, if not more.
On a side note, E.1999 Eternal was the 3rd gangsta rap album EVER to go #1 on the charts [Doggystyle was the first, Me Against The World was the second].......:)
-
Layzie Bone gave an interview here on Hot 97 when his album came out last year and said Eternal sold 6 million in the U.S...He said it was the highest selling ever on Ruthless Records...He also said the single Crossroads sold over 2 million copies and sold more than Ice ICe Baby...
-
i ain't saying you're a liar but where'd you get a soundscan sheet from that is saying this?
and there is more than 3 gangsta rap albums that have gone to #1
efil4zaggin was the first
all eyez on me came out before eternal and debuted there
and there are a couple in between which have nabbed that spot too
are a few more
-
Too Short has never gone more than Platinum.......
He has sold 9 million total out of 12 albums that he has.
E.1999 Eternal is 6 million officially cuz Layzie said it.......but I think its just passed 7, Billboard hasn't updated it 4 ages...........It's like around 7th or 8th highest selling ever.........

(U.S. Only)
Doggystyle- 6 million
E1999- 6 million
No Way Out- 5.1 million

-
^^^Those are pretty close, but you're off on a couple of them:
No Way Out: over 6 million, like 6.6 million was the last number I saw
E.1999 Eternal: over 7 million. Its probably at 8, but ill give yall the benefit of the the doubt and say its still at 7 million.
Makaveli: a little over 4 million.
I got a sheet from Soundscan right here, but cant post it cuz I dont have a friggin scanner. I dont care if anyone believes me or not, whatever.
-
lol dude hellrazor it's 6 million....theres a million sources saying this even lazie bone there's NO WAY it has sold 3 or 4 million records in the last 4-5 years, the catelouge of that album does NOT sell gold and platnum every year....the only artists that do that are michael jackson, metallica , pink floyd's dark side of the moon, and a couple of other records that are well into double diamond or near it
-
ya'll two , ( dpgc2001 and hellrasor) got your info from soundscan and ya'l arguing , see that the sale is bullshits nobody knows except the labels
-
didn't Pac's greatest hits go diamond, or very close to diamond?
-
9x platnum, but i don't think GH's count though
-
How you gonna forget ICE CUBE , COOLIO - Gangsters paradise , Warren G - G funk era ???
-
Damn how can you not have one of the biggest selling rap groups ever on the list " OUTKAST " anybody heard of them before ?
-
No GRODT?
-
why bring back a thread thats over 6 years old?
-
No GRODT?
Yeah, didn't it sold like 12 million?
-
No GRODT?
Yeah, didn't it sold like 12 million?
LMAO....I was wondering the same thing...until I realized this thread was over SIX YEARS OLD!! LOL
-
Hammers and Biggie's albums are at the only albums that are ceritified at 10x Platinum, but as far as scans Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" has soundscanned over 10 million and "The Eminem Show" is pretty close to or at 10 million as well. The Bone Thugs album has scanned over 6 million but is only ceritified at 4x Plat.
-
These ARE the official numbers, please dont try to argue and say otherwise......LMAO at Too Short selling more than E.1999 Eternal.......lol, E.1999 Eternal has sold more than all of Too Short's albums COMBINED.
LOL LOL LOL, you just made my day with that joke.
-
I don't know the top 10 but both All Eyez On Me and Life After Death are 10X Platinum...If you wanna count MC Hammer as rap he was the first to go diamond at 10 million...I think Eminem's last album sold like 8.5 or 9 million and Nelly's album just went 8X platinum...
wtf is you talking bout,if you want to count mc hammer as rap? hahahahahhahahahahaha, cuzz you new muthafuccas is a shame to hip hop,of course he was rap'n,get yo minds right yell
-
outkast's speakboxx album should be on that list . it was one of the highest selling sap albums ever.
also those numbers are a bit misleading because double albums get counted twice so albums like life after death really only sold half the copies (5 mill).
-
To sum it all up, noone has a fucking idea, and everyone's just throwing around numbers, without backing it up with some solid source...
-
damn i'm a dumb ass didn't even think about the date hahahahahhahahahahahahaa, so my bad my equal yell
