Man Utd agree £18.6m Carrick fee
Tottenham have revealed they will receive a fee of up to £18.6m from Manchester United for Michael Carrick.
The 25-year-old England midfielder will have a medical on Monday.
And in a statement issued to the Stock Exhange of Monday Spurs confirmed the fee for Carrick was "for a total consideration of up to £18.6m".
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Michael will have his medical on Monday and then, hopefully, we will be able to conclude that deal."
It was revealed last week that Spurs and United had agreed a deal for Carrick - but the fee was not made public and it was then rumoured to be in the region of £15m.
Ferguson, who is hopeful of signing more players before the new season, added: "We have targeted several players but, in my experience, these things take time."
Carrick has two years left on his deal at White Hart Lane but rejected a new contract offer in the wake of United's persistent interest.
"This is a move that Michael wants to make," Spurs boss Martin Jol told the club's official website.
"We have given him every reason to stay but he has asked to be allowed to leave."
The sale of Carrick represents a massive profit for Spurs, who signed him from West Ham for £2.75m two years ago.
Carrick started for England against Ecuador at the World Cup
West Ham are reported to be in for a windfall when the transfer goes through, with a sell-on clause included as part of the deal that took him to White Hart Lane.
Carrick is expected to make his first United appearance in the Amsterdam tournament, probably against Porto on Friday.
The midfielder has won seven England caps, making his debut when coming on as a substitute against Mexico in 2001.
Carrick was part of England's World Cup squad but he made only one appearance in Germany this summer, in the 1-0 win over Ecuador in the first game of the knockout stages.
United manager Ferguson stepped up his pursuit of Carrick once it became clear that the transfer of Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid for a reported £10.2m would go through.
However, Ferguson denied reports that he is also keen to sign Carrick's Tottenham team-mate Jermain Defoe.
"There has not been any interest from us," said Ferguson.
"As far as the Tottenham situation is concerned, we made a move for Michael Carrick - but that is all we did.
"He is the only Tottenham player we are interested in at the moment and I think it will stay that way."
Jol's determination to hold out for a fee that closely matched their £20m valuation of the player has given them more transfer cash to spend.
Jol has already signed 22-year-old Benoit Assou-Ekotto from Lens and spent £10.9m on Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov but he missed out on winger Damien Duff, who has joined Newcastle from Chelsea.
The summer signing of Ivory Coast international Didier Zokora will make Carrick's departure somewhat less painful for Jol, who can now continue his search for a left-sided midfielder in earnest.
LOL, i.m.o. he was under-priced at £2.75mil 2 years ago and is now over-priced at a whopping £18.6mil. :D
-
well, he is a great signing if you ask me....but you are right, I think he's lil bit overpriced too
-
Stupid IMO, Carricks probably worth half of that tag.
Fergusons fucked up this summer.

Nah, he's worth at least £12 mill in todays market.
Fergusons big fuck-up was selling a 20+ goals a season player with no replacement. :D
-
Very good player and will be an asset to Man Utd, but worth £18.6 million? Not IMO
Another example of the overpriced English transfer market
If Carrick was playing in any other league in the world he wouldn't be more than £8-10 million

maybe he thought that he doesn't have to replace him : saha was in good shape in the final matches of the last season, smith is returning to play as a striker, solskjaer is back and then he has young rossi who he wants to play more in the first team to develope his career....and of course rooney....

None of those will replace Ruud's goal scoring tallies.
Saha is a good player, but will never do 20+ a season, same with Rooney.
Smith isn't good enough for a top 3 PL team, and Solskjær will never be the same player as he once was, Rossi is just a talent for now.
-
ha haha ha ripped off again and in debt even more.
Why did the all Mighty Fergie not pick up Carrick when he wanted a move from West Ham and they stook him in the reserves?

Yeah i agree, no one will be as consistent as ruud was, but as a united fan, i'm optimistic.....i count on saha - rooney and i hope that smith & rossi will have a succesful season too......i know that solskjaer is not in his prime anymore, but u never know..... :P

True, but Fergie is apparantely going 2 use Guiseppe Rossi more as well.
I think Carrick is a great signing, but definately overpriced, no way shud we hav payed nearly £19million.
Also I believe United are paying £15m up front and the rest is tied up in clauses, I think one of them is Carrick has 2 play for England 25 times before they get so much etc...
-
Dont really care about this, I am happy that Tottenham is getting weaker though :P
-
We got a great profit on him considering he's only been here two years. Don't think its going to weaken us at all either because we've got Tom Huddlestone who can easily play the same role, and who is in the end going to be much better than Carrick anyway. Just down to whether Jol trusts his ability enough to play him every week.
Just need to get ourselves a left winger (please not Downing!), and a right back and we'll be set (tellingly numbers 2 and 11 are unused thus far for the seasons squad numbers).

Tom Huddlestone is going to be a great player - good buy from Derby County, he's big strong athletic knows how to tackle and can pass well, plays better in midfield in the holding role than at centre back (Spurs have 2 good CB's in Dawson & King anyway)
Berbatov is very good signing IMO and if Spurs can get a decent left sided player to help supply him they will have a great season again
-
you know things are fucked up when your team sellls its best goal scorer for £10m and buys a fucking spurs player for £18.3m

i think Rooney got 18 goals last year so im pretty sure he can manage 20 this year. Id also expect saha to get 20 if he can stay injury free for a season, something he hasnt done since he joined us.
Carrick is a good buy but 18.6 is a lirttle overpriced.

"Selling your best goalscorer before buying a midfielder who has yet to convince at the highest level does not seem like the best piece of business - especially if you lose £8m as part of the bargain."

Ordinarily, i wouls say....
"Fergie has won everything, he knows what he is doing"
But some of his buys over last couple of years have just been bordering lunacy (Kleberson, djemba djemba, Miller)
-
fergie fell tha fuck off!!
-
I see its only actually 14mil but will increase to 18.6 depending on how united and carrick do.
Fergie knows what he is doing.

Fergie knows what he is doing.
6/7 years ago I'd agree with u

It's not Fergie, its just Chelsea and their millions thats keeping United from winning the title again. Ballack and Shevchenko as summer signings... it's not fair!
