Title: Man United capture Kuszcak on loan....
Post by: Sweet & Tender Hooligan on August 10, 2006, 02:26:45 PM
Manchester United have signed Polish goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak on a season-long loan from West Brom, with a view to a possible permanent move.
In exchange, the Baggies will get defender Paul McShane and goalkeeper Luke Steele on a permanent basis.

Kuszczak, 24, will act as understudy to United's first-choice goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, with youngster Ben Foster staying a second season at Watford.

Kuszczak can stake a claim to be United number one when Van der Sar retires.

The Dutchman is expected to call time on his own career after Euro 2008.

Kuszczak, who has won four caps for Poland, spent three years in Germany with Hertha Berlin before arriving at West Brom two years ago.

Sir Alex Ferguson's attempts to land the keeper had been frustrated throughout the summer, with an initial £2.5m bid rejected.

But with Kuszczak now at Old Trafford, Foster getting Premiership experience with Watford and Tim Howard on loan at Everton, United are hopeful they have enough strength in the goalkeeping department to maintain healthy competition for the next five years at least.

The transfer of Steele is unlikely to go down well with Coventry, who signed the youngster on loan from United.

But the player was recalled, then immediately sold to one of their local Coca-Cola Championship rivals.

Man UNited better start looking for a Striker soon, because good strikers as they are, Saha and Rooney wont win the league.

I don't know why he wanted to join.

He will get no games. :(  At least I don't think so.

This is 1 strange deal, why theyve signed him on loan is weird! Ben Foster is a good keeper, so why loan him out and loan another keeper in??? Makes no sense 2 me!

A stange signing IMO, he's not going to play very often

And when Van Der Sar retires they have an excellent goalkeeper in Ben Foster so a strange one by Fergie

Doesn't he know that he needs another striker, well at least a quality one  ::) seems like there will be a lot of pressure on young Rossi this season

Its basically a four year deal

However, United have now confirmed that the player has made a permanent move to Old Trafford - with Paul McShane and Luke Steele heading in the opposite direction - although the first season is, somewhat curiously, being classed as a loan.

"Tomasz will be a Manchester United player for the next four years," said United chief executive David Gill.

"He has come to us on loan for the first year and then will join us permanently in July 2007.

"We would not have been interested in signing any player, even as one as good as Tomasz, on loan.

Not really much to say about this one, doubt he'll see much play this season if at all.
