Press Release - The Chicago Bulls today acquired center Martynas Andriuskevicius from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for guard Eddie Basden.
Martynas Andriuskevicius, a 7-2, 240-pound center, appeared in six games with the Cavaliers during his rookie season. He also appeared in 15 games with the Arkansas RimRockers of the NBA Development League and averaged 7.0 ppg and 4.2 rpg in 18.9 mpg. The 20-year old native of Kaunas, Lithuania was originally selected in the second round (44th overall) of NBA Draft 2005 by Orlando. He was then traded to Cleveland for a second-round pick and cash considerations on June 29, 2005.
“Martynas is a young big that we view as a player who needs development with his strength and skill, but has the potential to make it in this league,” said Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson. “We are always looking for size and skill, and feel he is a young player that we are willing to take a strong look at.”

There have been some rumors locally that link former University of Utah Ute Keith Van Horn and the Utah Jazz. Many are hoping these rumors have some semblance of substance. Here are some reasons why it’s an extremely logical fit.
First, Keith Van Horn is a proven veteran with great Playoff experience. He played significant roles on two NBA Finals teams, a few years back with the New Jersey Nets and last June with the Dallas Mavericks. While he’s not been the go-to guy on either of those teams, he demonstrated the ability to play well in some crucial games. He could help a young, inexperienced Jazz squad take that next step into postseason play.
Second, he would provide another much-needed outside shooter. Last year’s perimeter attack was sporadic at best (minus C/F Mehmet Okur, who sadly enough was Utah’s main threat). Jazz brass is banking on Derek Fisher providing the deft outside touch that has been missing, complementing an ever-improving Deron Williams. Still, a team can never have too many shooters. Van Horn has always been a good spot-up three-point shooter, and would allow Sloan some flexibility in creating mismatches in his frontcourt.
Third, Van Horn is a talented offensive weapon. Although he is not as spry as he once was, he can still create his own shot. He has length at the three spot and is just wily enough to get to the hole a few times a game. There were many times last season where the Jazz offense sputtered. They need a player like Van Horn with the ability to make some things happen offensively.
Fourth, he would join Fisher and Matt Harpring in providing some leadership off the bench. Going down the stretch, Utah needed much more production from its reserves. Van Horn played admirably well behind and alongside Mavs star Dirk Nowitski and could do the same with Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko.
Lastly, Van Horn is a local product and is still wildly popular amongst Utah fans. His presence alone would sell some tickets. Many have yearned for the day the former Ute would don a Jazz uniform. While he may be in the twilight of his career, it would be enjoyable for many fans to see one of their own return.
On top of all these reasons, Van Horn could probably be had very inexpensively. Utah still has the cap room and could insure themselves by simply offering a two-year contract, with the latter year being a team option.
Keith Van Horn in a Jazz uniform? It makes a lot of sense to me…
Basden for Andriuskevicius doesn't really have much of an impact on the teams involved, but Van Horn really does seem like the perfect fit for Utah...I don't see them making the playoffs (once again), but they're probably gunna make a push for it and they could get lucky...
PG Deron Williams...Derek Fisher/Dee Brown
SG Matt Harpring...Gordan Giricek/Milt Palacio
SF Andrei Kirilenko...Ronnie Brewer/CJ Miles
PF Carlos Boozer...Keith Van-Horn/Paul Milsap
C Mehmet Okur...Jarron Collins/Rafael Araujo
Coach: Jerry Sloan

Cavaliers Sign Scot Pollard (http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/pollard_signed_060818.html)
CLEVELAND, August 18th - The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed forward/center Scot Pollard and acquired guard Eddie Basden from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for forward/center Martynas Andriuskevicius, General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Adding Scot Pollard to our roster gives us more depth, size, toughness and experience,” Ferry said. “We believe Scot can be a valuable contributor to our team as we continue to build a championship level team here in Cleveland.”
Pollard, 31, played in 45 games (32 starts) for the Indiana Pacers last season and averaged 3.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per game. Over a stretch of nine games last season (Jan. 31-Feb. 23) he averaged 5.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in 25.2 minutes per game. The 6-foot-11, 265-pounder has played in 460 career games (99 starts) with averages of 4.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game. He has played in 57 career playoff games with averages of 3.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game.
Basden, 23, played in 19 games for the Chicago Bulls last season and averaged 2.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.47 steals in 7.4 minutes per game. He was assigned to the Tulsa 66ers of the D-League and played in 14 games (eight starts) with averages of 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 steals in 25.4 minutes per game. The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder was signed by the Bulls out of UNC-Charlotte after being named the Conference USA Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year (back-to-back seasons) and All-Conference USA First Team as a senior after averaging 15.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.21 steals per game.
Andriuskevicius was acquired by the Cavaliers on June 29, 2005 from the Orlando Magic in exchange for a second-round pick and cash. He played a total of nine minutes in six games for Cleveland. He played in 15 games (four starts) for the Arkansas RimRockers of the D-League last season and averaged 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game. “Marty is a young and talented kid and he made good strides during the past year, but ultimately this trade puts us in a more flexible position with our roster. We wish him good luck as he moves on to Chicago,” Ferry said.

Hell, they can get to the Finals THIS SEASON, if the Heat were able to do it...Ben Wallace was a tremendous addition, pretty much what they needed. I'm liking their chances in the east. They shoulda' kept JR Smith though...PeACe

Chicago May Re-Sign Schenscher (http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/41963/20060819/chicago_may_re_sign_schenscher/)

Daily Herald - Despite the acquistion of Martynas Andriuskevicius, John Paxson said on Friday that the Bulls are still considering 7-1 center Luke Schenscher.
Even with Friday’s transaction, Paxson said the Bulls haven’t ruled out re-signing Schenscher, who appeared in 20 games last year as a rookie.
“We still have one roster spot open,” Paxson said. “We’re still keeping our options open.”
