OK here's the story. I know alot of you guys on here really really like this guys music and after listening to numerous peoples opinions about him over the years i decided to buy an album of his for myself. the album i bought was balance and options, ive been an avid hip hop fan for ten years bearing in mind.
and i can honestley say the album is brilliant and the propduction is dope. ive recentley just became sick of the recent hip hop which lacks direction and inovation and this album has just really freshened me up again.
any way just a few thoughts.
-
quiksta's best album imo. the beats are all motherfucking dope, pitch in on a party, sexuality, Did Y'All Feel Dat ? , The Divorce Song are my favs.
-
yeah pitch in on a party is hella dope. what album would you say is up there with this one that his done?
-
safe & sound. that album is on sum smooth shit bro.
-
just so you know it's DJ Quik not Quick
-
i love this cd....
if there were no covers and skits, think how pure and sweet this album would have been
-
Gret CD probably my favorite Quik CD along with "Trauma". Shit man any Quik CD is worth getting but if you're looking for one go with either "Safe + Sound" or "Trauma" oh yeah "Rhythm-al-ism" is also a great album.
-
This is one of my 3 favorite Quik albums ever. Its pure genius, the outro on the album is amazing, the whole album bangs.

:o at the outro. I wish he would have used that beat for an actual song, or made it longer.
-
Yeah, I like this album a lot too. I think it's hella underrated though...
Btw, buy Safe + Sound and while you're at it, cop Rhythm-al-ism. You won't be disappointed.
-
"Balance and Options" is cool, I wasn't feeling it at first, but it grew on me....My personal favs are "Way 2 Fonky" & "Safe and Sound"..The "Way 2 Fonky" album is one of those albums I can listen to the whole way through with skipping a tracc..."Balance and Options" is one of those albums were Quik was trying to get away from the gangsta image he had built up with his first 3 records and he was trying to be on some cool, fly shyt...The only album Quik dissapointed on was "Under Tha Influence", which is complete and utter garbage...Sound quality alone kills the album, along with a lot of more misses than hits...
-
THE OUTRO of this cd is WONDERFUL
what a beatufiul beat
-
yea that one, rhythm-al-ism and trauma are my favorite quik cds.....

yup me to. That outro is unreal, I am with you I have always wished Quik made it into a actual song. Do it for your next LP Quik!
-
Well my favorite album is Safe and sound its so gangsta lol i love it.
Then id have to say rhytymalism, Trauma then b and a its a good record but i dont know somethingabout it i cant pu my fingertip on i like less then the others.
The production is hella itght tho the beats too, its different.
-
i love this cd....

yeah exactually...Balance & Options is the ONLY quik album that I CANT listen start to finish. Now dont get me wrong.
Tracks 1-5 are amazing and some of his best shit
Track 7 a pointless stupid skit
6-9 are dope and also some of the his best shit
Track 10 you got another pointless skit
Track 11 is a remake of Eazy's song which is a dope but a filler
Track 13 another pointless skit
Track 13 (Speak on It)sounds incomplete, which features
Tracks 14-19 amazing. The outro is on some future shit :o
If B&O could of replaced the 5 tracks mentioned it would of been probably quiks best work along with Rythm-ali-ism. It has really dope songs some which are my favorite(Rogers Grove, We Came to Play, Pitch in ona Party, Well, Do I love her, ect...But as an album it seems like it was rushed and quik didnt really care about so it was incomplete. Thats why its his worst album IMO; either way its still dope and I bump the songs off it regularly and it still murders most shit out now a days...
-

UTI was garbage. Good thing he bounced back with Trauma
-
GET RHYTHM-AL-ISM.....YOU WILL BE BLOWN THE FUCK AWAY, seriously its worth paying for you can go track 1 to the end no skips
-
man UTI was fuckin awesome, don't get why not many like it
Balance & Options is probably up there as my favorite with Rhythm-al-ism and Trauma
-
i love quik man, prob the most gifted guy in hip hop
balance and options is amazing but i agree with Machiavelli ther is a bit in the middle which i skip
quik is the name 5/5
way 2 fonky 5/5
safe and sound - unbelievable 6/5
rhthm al ism - mind blowing 10/5
balance and options 5/5
under tha influence 4/5
trauma 4.5/5
the guy imo is the most consistant artist in hip hop
-
balance & options is a great album but I think rhythm-al-ism is a way better album. The production on rhythm-al-ism is sooo untouchable. Quik did a certain style of production which can only really be heard rhythm-al-ism
-
Balance and Options is my favorite Quik album. It's not as bold as Rhythmalism musically but it sounds more polished and it's just so smooth.
-

1.Safe & Sound

3.Rhythmalism
-
Rhythm-a-lism shit on all quik albums. one of the best rap albums ever.
-
Balance & Options is dope from start 2 finish, but I still think Under Tha Influence is one of those albums that takes a while 2 grow on u, I didnt feel it at 1st, but now I like it even if its not as good as his other albums.
-
i think this got to be my personal favorite line-up ...
01. safe + sound
02. rhythm-al-ism
03. balance & options
04. trauma
05. under tha influence
06. way 2 fonky
07. quik is the name
-
excluding the old school, mine is:
Rhythm-al-ism
Balance & Options
Trauma
Safe + Sound / Under Tha Influence
-
I can slip this album in my ride any day of the week, and hear something new in the music every fucking time.
He has such a musical talent, he won't be fully understood anytime soon...
His shit is way too complex for some folks...
-
This is Quik's last GREAT album. UTI and Trauma were both dope albums, but lacked something.
-
Rhythm-al-ism is probably my favourite. The song Speed blew my fucking mind when i first listened to it, not heard anything like it. Beat is crazy and Quik flows so well over it.
-

one of my fav songs ever

You cant really say one quik album is better then another because each are classic and came out in a different time but here are my FAVORTIES in order:
1. Rythm-al-ism
2. Safe & Sound
3. Trauma
4. B&0
5. UTI
6. Quik is the Name
7. Way 2 fonky
-
it's funny how everyone puts 6 - "Quik is the Name", and 7 - "Way 2 Fonky"
probably cuz lots of youngsters on this site, not really our sound in time.... seems 1995 rap started to change sound-wise
they're good albums for sure if you listen to 'em, it's just they're in a much different time than the others and I didn't grow up with it
I was only like 4-5 when they were released.... I assume it's the same for the rest of you

welll Quik is the name is a classic. i know alot of older people who only dj quik for that album. Dj Quik was huge back in 1991 and 1992. Me, i was only 1 and 2 years old when they were released so it cant really be my favorite..I first heard Rythm-al-ism back in 99 when I was 9 years old and quik is the name and way 2 fonky were the last albums that i got from him. So thas why I prefer his newer albums. Im not saying their better but their my favorites.

That's a good observation, and I never really looked at it that way....Whenever there is a Quik album debate I always list "Way 2 Fonky" ahead of all the rest of albums cuz I can remember bacc when it first and others like it dropped and how the times were a little different from today...I know message boards are usually filled with non americans and teenagers who didn't experiance rap at that time, so they can't look bacc over the years and see how great an album was or how much impact an album had compared to today because they weren't living in that time frame or they were living, but didn't get the experiance of that era...That probably why I think "Way 2 Fonky" is probably one of Quik's best album to date, but it usually ends up at the end of most peoples list
-
Balance and Options was a cool record. It sort of marked the change from Party Quik to Angry Quik, as it had both party and songs of anger. In the UTI and Truama records Quik sounded pissed off.
-
i loved and love this album. this is my fav Quik album period. Rythmalism is after this one.
-
What's up folks ?!
It had been a while since I bumped that album and damn it is a certified classic ! If you add all of Quik's skills (production/flow/creativity etc) he must be the most talented hip-hop artist ever.
-

:o at the outro. I wish he would have used that beat for an actual song, or made it longer.
He did though not for himself. I can't remember the artists name now?

I commented on this thread 10 years ago wow.
Beats , production is dope but lyrics and voice is .....
