Kemp seeks Bulls' final roster spot (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/15544540.htm)
By K.C. Johnson
Chicago Tribune
CHICAGO - With most needs met, an open roster spot and two weeks until training camp begins, the Chicago Bulls have the luxury of working out a wide variety of players to see if something strikes their fancy.
But few could have imagined this: Shawn Kemp will visit the Berto Center this week.
Ten years and three months after facing Michael Jordan and Co. in their prime as a member of the SuperSonics during the 1996 NBA Finals, the six-time All-Star would seem to have little chance to snag the final spot.
Retired since playing 79 games with Orlando in the 2002-03 season, Kemp, 36, has a past that includes a stint in rehabilitation for cocaine abuse, two arrests for marijuana possession and weight problems.
The Bulls already have Malik Allen, who can step out and hit the midrange jumper. Kemp was known as a solid but never spectacular shooter during his 14-year NBA career.
But Kemp, whose association with coach Scott Skiles dates to their formative basketball years in Indiana in the late 1980s, has been on a mission to return to the NBA since 2005.
Claiming he now weighs 257 pounds, three pounds lighter than in his prime, Kemp was arrested for marijuana possession in July. He told Seattle reporters the drugs were old and he hadn't used drugs since 2004.
The court case is pending.
The Bulls also are expected to look at former Orlando center Andrew DeClercq.
Luke Schenscher, who averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 20 games with the Bulls last season, is the leading candidate to fill the final roster spot.
Interesting...I hope the Bulls give him that spot so we can finally see what this "strong comeback" talk has been all about. Should be interesting to see where he ends up when the season begins...PeACe

Ummm...Jordan's a little too old and doesn't have the will/need to refresh his reputation. Shawn Kemp claims he wants to exit the NBA with a bang, he can't get over the chance he blew of being a legend...PeACe

PG Kirk Hinrich...Chris Duhon
SG Ben Gordon...Adrian Griffin/Thabo Sefolosha
SF Luol Deng...Andres Nocioni/Viktor Khryapa
PF PJ Brown...Michael Sweetney/Malik Allen/Tyrus Thomas
C Ben Wallace...Shawn Kemp/Martynas Andriuskevicius
Coach: Scott Skiles
...Not bad.

it was a joke nigga. but don't be surprised if someone responds to this thread saying jordan could still do it, you'd be surprised how many people actually feel like that.

He'll get busted for weed / coke / dui in about a month anyway.

He's always been a combo 4/5... especially later in his career, he played the 5 more cuz he couldn't move around as much...PeACe

i remember him doing that in portland when he weighed like 350 lbs, but if he's made all these changes then he should play power , unless they want to do a dual power forward plan in chicago when ben sits

They want a quicker team up in Chicago.. they like that fast-paced game, and with the new generation of untraditional/undersized centers, I think he'll be most eligible for back-up center on their squad (if he lands the last spot)...PeACe

No-show Kemp blows chance with Bulls

Shawn Kemp's planned workout at the Berto Center never materialized Monday, and it's unlikely the six-time NBA All-Star will receive another invitation from the Bulls.
Kemp experienced travel problems late Sunday night but still arrived in Chicago early Monday morning. Instead of working out with the Bulls, he traveled to his hometown of Elkhart, Ind., to visit an ailing relative.
Kemp, 36, who retired in 2003 after 14 seasons because of weight issues, also missed a planned workout with Dallas earlier this year.
The former dynamic dunker, known as "The Reign Man" in his prime with Seattle, has been trying to interest NBA teams since shedding about 60 pounds in 2005.
The Bulls, who considered Kemp an extreme long shot, have one roster spot to fill before training camp begins Oct. 3. Kemp and coach Scott Skiles have a longstanding relationship, dating to their formative basketball years in Indiana and throughout various meetings during their NBA careers.
Luke Schenscher, who averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 20 games with the Bulls last season, remains the leading candidate to fill the vacant spot.

i used to love kemp

NIK you should change your lineup of the Bulls roster......there is no way Tyrus Thomas is going to be last off the bench. If he doesnt start right away, he will be a starter after a month. Book it. Dude is going to be a beast playing alongside Ben.
-
what does that nigga look like now? i hope he doesnt look like Todd Bridges. :'(

I have to see his development in the NBA first, most of the time rookies don't get off the bench right away, especially with an already contending team like the Bulls...PeACe

Kemp returns (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sonics/2003566579_soniglance11.html)
Former Sonics all-star Shawn Kemp received a rousing ovation as he strutted into the arena in baggy jeans and a polo shirt as part of the team's " '90s Night" celebration. And given the way the Sonics played defensively against the Sacramento Kings, you wouldn't blame general manager Rick Sund if he signed the vet.
Kemp, 37, still hopes to play again in the NBA, saying his agent has had talks with several teams, but nothing has materialized. For now, Kemp stays in shape (and looks it) while working with his wife in charitable ventures as well as real-estate investments.
"If it works out, it works," he said. "It's not going to be something I continue to press and press. I won't do that. I was thinking about going overseas, but the only thing I do is keep myself in great shape. If there's something out there that I think is worth doing then I'll do it."

haha, he blew so many chances, but seattle couldnt get much worse rite now if they gave him a shot

Artest has had no problems with the Kings. And right now hes playing great basketball shooting 50 percent fg 40 % 3ptfg's and is avg over 21 pts and 8 rebs the last month. Plus his defense has really picked up. Thats why the Kings have won 8 of 12... 8)

Artest has had his share of problems with the Kings, the Sacramento management is just good at keeping that shit on the low...

Yea, I guess having your dog seized for animal cruelty is pretty normal by Artest's standards...

does artest have a wife or anything? cuz it's not really an excuse for what he did, but perhaps its has something to do with that.being away from home all the time and having no one to really tend to your shit, except gardeners and shit.

The fact that there have been trade rumors ever since he's landed in Sacramento should tell you that something is not right...I mean, I'm not saying he's acting as bad as he was in Indiana, but he's still the same muthafucka...

for sure, but winning cures all. And they have won 8 of 12 and Artest is playing the best ball of the year. If htey keep winning, everything will be fine.
