Title: DUBCNN: An Exclusive Interview With Jerry Heller
Post by: Inspire / Moss on September 18, 2006, 06:04:57 PM
(http://www.dubcnn.com/interviews/jerryheller/jerryheller.jpg)

Here at dubcnn we pride on taking the time out to give today’s biggest Hip-Hop stars and names the chance to speak on issues that may have been unanswered for years, or maybe days.

Jerry Heller recently sat down with us here at dubcnn, for a very interesting and in-depth interview concerning some of the matters that may not have been covered in his new book, “Ruthless: A Memoir”.

As well as this, we covered several different issues concerning the book and also some interesting topics on Eazy-E, the death of Eazy-E, N.W.A, Suge Knight and Death Row and much more. We felt it was only right to give Heller a chance to really speak his mind on some things that may still be unanswered to this day about the Ruthless Records era.

So make sure you check out this exclusive Jerry Heller interview
http://www.dubcnn.com/interviews/jerryheller/ (http://www.dubcnn.com/interviews/jerryheller/)

and make sure to pick up a copy of his new book, "Ruthless: A Memoir"

Good interview.  The man has gotten endless hate, but he's a pretty interesting guy.  He def holds Eazy in high regard.  His shout out was dope!  I'll have to check out that book - I'm sure it'd be a fascinating read.

i've read the book.........its a good read, very interesting, but some heads may find it one sided (of course, its his book after all), but it gives a very interesting look into the beginings of ruthless records and west coast hip hop in general....i would recommend it

Great interview, props.

The NWA film sounds like the movie version of Detox - everyone knows it'll be dope, but we'll probably have to endure endless delays.

Thanks for the interview.

Reading this guy's answers, it's not a big stretch for me to see how he jerked around Cube, Dre, Ren, D.O.C., etc when they first blew. I mean, check this out:

"Dubcnn: Okay, do you actually own any unreleased Eazy-E tracks? ‘Cause I know that us fans would love to hear anything new from Eazy.

Is that a legal question, when you say “own”, or are you just asking out of a point of interest, because when you ask, “own”, you get into a very complicated area of the law as to who owns what, does the artist own the performance or does the person who paid for the record own the performance, and I’m not qualified to make those sorts of legal decisions and I think we should just leave it at that."

That's probably how he said it when an artist asked him about maybe "owning" his own publishing.

D.O.C. - Yo man, I was thinking, uh, that maybe I should own my own publishing

Jerry: When you say "own," are you just asking out of a point of interest, because when you ask, "own," you get into a very complicated area of law as to who owns what. Do you own the performance or does the person who paid for the record own the performance?

D.O.C. - ....

Jerry: Good. Now here's a gold chain instead.

major props on the interview.

to all the dudes hatin on this man read the book and see HIS side of the story in full, we've heard from everyone else (except for Eazy) for a decade so before swallowing their sh*t, see what the man has to say.

it's worth remembering what peops (D.O.C, RBX) accused dre of concerning their contracts at Death Row subsequently (before he dipped out and all the attention was focussed on Suge) and also what J-Dee has said about Ice Cube about his contract before getting on some sanctimonious sh*t. this is a scandalous business afterall.

Props to Dubcc and Jerry Heller.  That really was a great interview, very informative.  Jerry Heller sounds like a very competent man.  I actually think he may deserve more credit than he gets, maybe if it wasn't for his forsight and knowledge of the industry, NWA and Death Row and all that may have never happened.

I give Jerry props for making this a really interview, and not just some fluff-advertisement for his book.

Dubcc is the number 1 hip-hop site on the internet, SOHH and Allhip-hop are overrated.

No doubt. I do believe he was a big reason why Ruthless got put together in the first place. He was the only guy in the mix who had any real experience in the music biz when the label kicked off. It's just that since this is a scandalous business, I can only imagine how a bunch of naive young brothers might have gotten ganked by a guy who knew all the angles and could talk circles around them. Doesn't surprise me that Suge, Dre, Cube took a page out of his book down the road. Fuck it - it's just business after all.

Dubcnn: Okay and being Jewish did you ever feel offended by any of Ice Cube’s lyrics?

Well obviously “No Vaseline” is an anti-semitic song. I mean the ?? and the museum of tolerance, Rabbi Cooper and Rabbi Hier said it was an anti-semitic song, they classified it as such. That doesn’t mean that I think O’Shea Jackson is an anti-semitic, it doesn’t mean that I think that O’Shea Jackson is anti-Korean because he wrote “Black Korea”. I took that song very personal and I think that O’Shea Jackson was anti-Jerry Heller and pro-O’Shea Jackson. So I think that he used that to further his interest and I think he just does it to attempt at keep selling records. Obviously he’s not as popular as he used to be as a recording artist.

^^^^^^^^^  Thanks for asking one of my questions. I disagree with him, I don't think Ice Cube did the track just to "sell records".  And, it appears he still holds some grudge towards Ice Cube, because his last sentence was an obvious jab at Cube.

Well from a fan's perspective, it may be true that Jerry jerked some people, but he also did handle business very efficiently, and that enabled Dre and Eazy and all of them to focus on the music and put together some great, classic records.  So, I think Jerry deserves some credit because he was trying to accomplish all of this with business partners who were straight off the streets.

Good interview but I don't like how he danced around the unreleased Eazy material question. Should've changed the question to do you have any unreleased Eazy material? on the spot. . .

Too bad Eazy didn't get suge's faggit ass murked too. . .

Great job DubCNN.

For an N.W.A fan that was great read.

So it seems Jerry still has some of ownership of the N.W.A name.

He's sorta implied that he has some unreleased Eazy material. Jerry still seems like a very shrewd business man.

His next major move after the book is the movie, it's new territory to him but it seems like he is determined to get the green light for his project. That will be something to look forward to watching.

Jerry takin action against Cube for talkin bad about him? Come on Jerry, you out of all people went up against censorship.
Straight Outta Compton, fuck the Police and all that drama, that was a total fight against censorship.
Jerry could do everyone a favour though, he should pay/buy and put out the unrealeased 'ice cube diss' recorded by Eazy E that Yella has posssesion of.
Everyone wants to hear that.
That could also be added to the film soundtrack and no doubt be the 'gem' on that CD.

dope interview.
now jerry heller took eazy e's concepet and put business sense behind it.
jerry didn't go find dre, cube, ren etc...
eazy did.
they signed with eazy.
so if anybody robbed anybody it was eazy.
these were his friends. this was his company.
but the truth is niggaz got he same contract that all these labels give niggaz right now.
the same shyt cube left and got anyway.
about a dollar a record.
cube just became his own company and gets that independant money.
dre did the same shyt to niggaz when he started deathrow.
once again niggaz say suge is the same as jerry heller but it was dre signing his friends. suge never new snoop or anybody else prior to dre bringing them over.
niggaz need to read contracts.
business is business.
this dude took nwa to the masses and made history.
eazy never said nothing bad about him.
