oxmo is definately #1, then my second favorite is busta flex, akhenaton and shurikn are superb on the mic, the have a great range of vocabulary. Kool shen ain't all that, he got a cool voice and i like the work he did with ntm but he's not a great lyricist.

I'm french but i quit listening french rap cause now it really really sux :(
Here's my Top five:
- yes, Oxmo Puccino, but only for his first album: Opera Puccino. One of my favorite french album ever.
- Rohff: also for his first album: Le Code de l'honneur. So hardcore!
- Doc Gyneco: I really think that he was the best french mc. 3 great albums: Premier Consultation, Liaisons Dangereuses, Quality Street...
- Kery James when he was in Ideal J: Le combat Continue. Amazing!
- Stomy Bugzy & Passi = Minister AMER: Best group ever. Great first solo albums for both of them.

So how do the genres break down in French rap? Are some rappers east coast style, west coast style, dirty south, gangsta rap centric, or is it just completely different? Just curious - The only song I've heard is MC Solaar's La Belle & Le Bad Boy (or something like that). Pretty dope song.

^^^^ There aren't too many differences when it comes to the sound as they are in the US. Most of the dopest French albums have this "QB" Feeling and are some type of NY grimey shit.. and this sound is still kinda present (at least more than in USA). Nowadays there are lots of Neptunes and Storch wannabe... MCs wise there are some conscious rappers as IAM (in the game for 17 years and legends), wannabe gangsta like Booba... I don't fuck with French rap for a while though (some dope mcs have gone WAY too pop like Passi, Gyneco...)
