Yo homie, you made a mistake putting Eminem in that category.  Don't forget MTV never showed any support for the D-12 record.  Eminem doesn't pander to MTV or radio.  And BET, radio, and MTV may be wack but that doesn't justify you leaving hip-hop... Nas is still going to sell 400,000 first week, that's good news.. peace... But yeah, I miss the mid 90's... if this was the mid-90's Xzibit's "Get Your Walk On" would be number 1 on MTV right now.. peace.

and wasnt Real Slim Shady & My Name Is made to sell records on MTV? I'm not saying he's a pop artist, but dont say he has Never made stuff for MTV

Leaving hip hop just cause others are not supporting your artists is stupid. I know alot of talented cats aren't getting their props but its been like this ever since the beginning. And it's like that in every music genre so it ain't like only rappers are gettin' robbed.

That's just how capitalism is.

And another thing,

I don't think its cool to hate on those cats you listed above because they are successful, hate the people who support them.

The best we can do is support the peeps we like and that's how its always gonna be.

Techniec isnt a music fan..bottom line.  If he was a music fan he'd listen to shit for the music and wouldnt care about how many copies it sells.

2 big thumbs down to Techniec.

And before you complain Techniec about how Im an asshole, at least attempt to explain to me why youd stop listening to rap because it doesnt sell?  Yup-times up.  Find a new genre to listen to, Sunshine.

When did I say he NEVER made music for the radio and MTV??  Eminem made two songs for radio and MTV, and that was My Name Is, and The Real Slim Shady, that's two songs.. compare that to Jay-Z who makes whole albums, he admits that throughout the album he's playing to the radio.. he admits that shit.. 98% of Eminem's music is not made for the radio.

I agree totally SugeFight... For Once.

I Hate How The Game Is Run, So I Run In My Way and Listen To What I Like... I could Care Less If Warren G Hit's 89, I Could Care Less If "Kokane Ruins Every Song He's On" .... Music is an ART, ever since I remembered art is arbitrary and there is no right or wrong.

Thanks for agreeing-but we agree on the majority of musical issues.  Im just more vocal when somebody on this board acts stupid and you always try to be someones friend-thats where we're different.  But musically-we see eye to eye for the most part.  (save the nas/jigga thing)

i wasnt speaking SPECIFICALLY about the music itself, just the bullshit, that is being forced down our throat, i feel, and im sure that all you would agree with me, that this is the WORST period in hip hop history,

basically i went from a millionaire to a bum
from the beauty of the west coast dominance in the 90's to this?...

im not in this music for record sales it jst frustrates me when some one WHO used to sell and was appreciated isnt anymore, bullshit. i dont expect brotha lynch hung to go platinum or anything like that, its just that, there is so much bullshit in this game today,

like before i used to be open minded and appreciate a "mainstream tune" now ive retreated to a small selection of hiphop artists

warren is still bangin
nates cd , i heard it once and didnt like it , i dunno maybe itll grow on me
i love snoop, but crip this bitch that is really getting annoyin with me
same with fuckin kurupts same fuck a bitch shit

dre dont do the old shit no more....

i dunno, im not giving up on hip hop,its just that i am feeling less and less comfort in it

ps: eminem is commercialized, hes in the same boat as ja rule and nelly

Well.... lets say you leave Hip Hop... where do you go? No matter where you go, you'll face this, it's not just Rap, its Rock/R&B and ever other peice of music out now... it's all commercialized....

I totally DISAGREE.  There is a lot of hot shit out there for everyone in hip hop.  The reason that hip hop albums arent selling as much is that there are more freaking albums out there.  Like this week 8 big name rap CDs came out-its insane.  But still-ZERO respect to Techniec.  Leave this board.  You dont like rap music? Fine-Nobody is forcing you. Bye bye now.  And Eminem is tight as fuck-so to put him in the same "boat" as Ja-Rule just because eminem is a cross over success is lame as fuck.  Yes-a lot of acts that you dont like are popular now--deal with it.  The most talented artists usually arent the most popular ones.  That's how its ALWAYS been.  Oh yah--and as far as the fruity statement of getting less comfort in hip hop--NEGRO..it aint nothin but music.  It's for you to play in your car, hang out to, party to, dance to, fuck to, chill to, smoke to, whatever--ITS MUSIC--its fun..and if you are going to sit here writing essays about how the media is making you dislike music and all of this BS-well then stop listening and stop wasting this boards time.

Lets lock this up now that I set the record straight

There's always been good hip-hop and bad hip-hop. It's just that now there's more hip-hop being heard.

Just like back in 1995 all the older heads were wishing for 1988 when Rakim/KRS/Slick Rick/G Rap/Kane were runnin things.... it's a new generation of younger heads trying to get their bearings... generally i think their tastes are crap.. but they'll eventually come around once they actually get into hip-hop outside of the 12 artists the radio plays all day.

I mean... 2001 to me has been the best year in a LOOOONG time....

I look back from January to December and I cant think of a year I had this many bangin albums....

Personally I don't want any one area or group to be "on top"... i just want good music to be appreciated. I feel you on Warren being so low, but music sales in general are low, especially hip-hop.  I think Universal will push his album more than Restless ever did, even more than Def Jam did with his second... he'll end up Gold I think.

Anyways...  to me, any year i can get Warren G, Chino XL, Nas, Wu-Tang, Masta Ace, a whole shitload of new Ras, Eastsidaz and a pile of dope underground... I'm not complaining at all.

I think rap IS going through a weak period - there's too many mediocre rappers putting out albums made in hours.
Rap's problem is it's own success. There's money to be made and some people seem to think anyone who's been to jail/shot someone/sold drugs can rap or make records.
I'm surprised that no-one here seems to respect Ja Rule, I think it takes a bigger man to make some of his tracks than the endless "bitches ain't shit" garbage.

regardless of what kind of a "man" Ja Rule is... as an artist and an mc he straight up sucks.

What you should do is listen to some other type of music for a while, then come back to rap.  See how it works out.

I agree, I don't think I could ever leave hip-hop, not on the sole purpose if it not being as successful as it has been in the past anyways. I don't care for the quantity, it's the quality that counts. Shit, i'd like to see our favourite artists get their props with heavy sales but thats not how shit works when it comes to chart positions, the ones that do push units are mainly the ones that have a mixture of pop/RnB/hip-hop anyways, there's never hardly strict hip-hop out there being displayed on the charts.

The key is you should just listen to artists you enjoy-not just a genre.  For example, I listen to the likes of Ben Folds, Garbage, Sarah McLachlan, etc.  To leave "hip hop" as a whole is shutting a lot of doors.

Music is a catch 22--because if an album is REAL hot or theres a REAL catchy song-you have to release it as a single..thats why you get in the business--to make money..its a hustle.  But when you become popular, losers that like to think theyre into underground music suddenly turn their back on that artist.  And thats so -------LAME.

Dont back out sunshine.  You suggested that you leave hip hop and stop listening to hip hop because of low album sales and lack of popularity. LOL-what a herb.

I just got to say, commercially, this is the 2nd worst period in rap music history. The worst was the Bad Boy, No Limit era. Rap isn't that cutting edge anymore. N.W.A., westcoast gangsta rap, Eazy E, that's when rap was at it's best commercially. And after D-12, Eminem gots some comebacking to do.
