ok, so whether it be your parents, your friends, a college prof. a boss, your girl...etc...what album (hip hop) would you recommend (can't be 2pac or any other dead person).....and reasons for your choice
Personally i'd recommend Braintax - Biro Funk
reason being, i just think the content and the production is just so on point. his lyrics are just so diverse. one track he's talking about his girl and that she just takes hi for granted...and on another he's talking about being a ghost in the future going to heathrow airport. doesn't sound great from my description, but i'm slightly cut at the moment and can't be bothered going into it.
i just think it was a highly underated album. and deffinately slept on in England and never heard of in America.
Another reason i like it is because not once does he talk about normal hip hop content...ie...smoking loads of weed, buying/selling drugs, girls (apart from his own) and money. He rarely swears in his rhymes, apart from when he would actually swear. he's just like an english white talib kweli/common with a fresh twist.

Rthymalism and Reflection Eternal popped in my head immediately.
Rthymalism: The album is very musical so I think people who aren't hip hop heads can relate to that more, plus it's a fun album with a postive vibe.
Reflection Eternal: This album is more socially responsible and musically, I think it's also more accessible to non hip hop listeners like Rthymalism.
It's funny a lot of my friends who aren't into hip hop love DJ Quik's music, I made them all fans.

Dr Dre - The Chronic
but i know some people arent fond of that gangsta shit
so then you'd go for Outkast - Aquemini
obviously
-
Probably the ones that are selling the most, which means that they have the whole package. Albums that have club tracks, song for the chicks, serious songs, weed songs... They aim for wider public. So some Em, Jay, 50 or Snoop.
-
Rythymalism - DJ Quik
-
Gunther - Pleasureman
-
kriss kross-totaly krossed out
-
Kool Savas - Der beste Tag meines Lebens
-
illmatic
black star
the first two that came to mind...
-
T.I. - Trap Muzik.
-
Sticky Fingaz - The Autobiography Of Kirk Jones (Black Trash)
Said it before n i'll say it again, this album is on a whole nother level!!!!
the idea for makin detox, an album where each song is a different part of a story is probably partially inspired from this album since "Black trash" is built like that. This album is so entertaining, wish hes other albums where as good as this one :-\
-
Murs - 9th wonder, easy going beats, not too much profanity, not talkin about killing, and doing dope, makes it easier to reccomend to the squares
-
Something by Warren G or DJ Quik. Rhythym-al-ism or I Want It All most likely. I mean if my dad had a positive comment about I want it all then I guess that record could go ever well with anybody.

Little Brother - The Listening
-
Digable Planets - Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space)
ATCQ - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm

they don't really contain serious songs...and when you say they aim for a wider public. they don't...they aim mostly at teenage girls. because lets face, they are the majority that buy albums. and shit like em 50 jay and snoop don't really know how to make serious songs. not on the level me and half the repliers on this post are meaning anyway.
and remember, i said 'hip hop' not pop.
the same goes to the guy that said the chronic....let's face it, it's not exactly a deep album is it. listening to 'fuck dre day' with hardly make people get inspired
-
Stone Temple Pilots - Core
-
Gunther - Pleasureman
co-sign on that homie, gunther is str8 gansgta with that hair and his glasses
gunther = true definition of a pimp
-
Ras Kass-Rassasination
-
Anyone who likes hiphop... dead prez - lets get free... Those who just listen to beats and flows love the sound, and those who focus on the lyrics will be amazed by the content.
Other than that... As mentioned already, ATCQ's People's instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm is some very easy listening for people outside of hiphop.
-
common - Ressurection
wu-tang - forever (36 chambers might not appeal to everyone)
krs - edutainment
tego calderon - el aballarde
- el enemy de los guasibiri

-
Skinnyman - council estate of the mind

Skinnyman - council estate of the mind
you got a tracklisting to that album. i like some of skinnymans stuff. but some of it is playground rap.
the stuff he does for lious slippers or the answer are usually good.
support UK hip hop
-
First that came to my mind was Lyfe but that ain't so much hip hop...
Def. anything KRS One though. Or some old school for sure.
-
A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
-
Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove
It's got something for everybody I think.
-
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
A classic album and what a debut, opens with the wonderful "I Wanna Be Adored" and closing with another great in "I Am The Resurrection"
The album Stone Roses was not only a great album but it helped infulence the likes of The Verve, Oasis, Blur, Suede, Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene etc, and Liam Gallagher has been quoted as saying that he wanted to be a Rock'N'Roll Star after seeing the Stone Roses perform in concert
Also Stone Roses - Complete Stone Roses, a great album also
If you haven't heard these you should try and look them out
-
It was supposed to be Hip-Hop only but they're both great records (Funkadelic & Stone Roses).

And thats why I should read the whole thread and post :-[ :p
Ice Cube - Death Certificate
Great album where Ice Cube was at or approaching the peak of his career
-
ok so some of us are coming a little off track.
i'm not wanting to know what is your favourite rap album... we all have opinions.
I'm more talking about underground hiphop
Ice cubes Death Cert. isn't exactly a good album for most people. let's be honest.either you live in the CPT and only know people from there. but back in the real world death cert isn't exactly a global pleaser when it comes to hip hop. remember, there's are other genre's in the world other than old gangsta/studio rap
