I still got their latest album on regular rotation.

Yeah man they're tight, one of my all time favorite rock bands. Kiedis was born in Michigan and moved out here when 11. He reps the West though and does it right so it's all good.
"Eastside love is living on the West end" - Anthony Kiedis 8)

I can't even say how much I like these dudes. They're incredible. Their lastest album (which is a double) is so sick. I bought back in May I think, and I haven't even popped in Disc 2 yet. There's so much packed into the first disc that it's taken me forever to digest it all.
I don't own anything prior to Blood Sugar Sex Magic which dropped in like 91 or 92, but everything they've done since then (of course that album included) is nothing short of classic, and I'm not exaggerating. (The lone exception might be One Hot Minute - it's a very good album, but John Frusciante isn't on there and it just feels a little off to me). They've been around since 84 so they have quite a track record...I know George Clinton produced their album Freeky Stylee.
Anyway props for getting into them. They manage to stay relevant because their talent transcends any gay ass trends that all these other so called bands today conform to. As long as none of them die (which they've been extremely close to doing) I think they'll be dropping incredible music for the next 20 years.

Love Rollercoaster is a sweet song. Most of their songs are all good though so..props to RHCP

Bloodsugarsexmagick was the first CD I ever bought I think. One Hot Minute is good as well, so is Californication.
-
I really need to check their stuff pre-bloodsugarsexmagik.

It's basically a fusion of funk and punk. Mother's Milk was the first one with John but he was younger than the other guys and new so he didn't get to contribute as much. Now he's more or less the main songwriter. They're cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground is on there as well as Knock Me Down, and Pretty Little Ditty is a great instrumental that really preludes the sound they would use for their later albums.

one of the greatest bands ever..... But why have all their singles recently had a california type tie into them? some girl at my school wrote a paper about it a year ago....anyone know anything else about this? she called it something like the california effect or something like that, i dunno...anyone

They've always had a California type single...that's probably because they are from California.

The singles "Californication," "By The Way" and "Dani California" all talk about the same girl named Dani California. She was initially brought up in "Californication" although she didn't play a large role in that song. She is more developed in "By The Way" and she reaches her demise in "Dani California."
