Title: Makaveli and Dillinger [the legal details]
Post by: alex_g on December 17, 2001, 11:47:02 PM
i posted this at our forum @ dpgc2000.net but knowone has really responded, read and holla bacc...

Recently there has been a little bit of tension, skeptism and general confusion about Daz and DPG Recordz yet to be released Makaveli and Dillinger EP. Some peeps are tending to label this project as a scam from the likes of Daz, some are confident like me that the product or a refund will be delivered. Regardless personal opinion, beef, and general playerhating and bullshit here are the closest we can get to an actual press release or copy and paste from a news site :-)

Amaru Records - Legal representatives state that in order to preserve 2pacs legacy and legal bindings an injunction has been placed against Daz and DPG Recordz to hold back any release with 2pac material on them. Therefore if Daz releases anything with 'Pac on it, they have full legal grounds to proceed with legal action. The countdown begins til the projects intended release, December 25 2001.

DPG Recordz - Daz is still proceeding with the project, dismissing much of the legal hoopla as bullshit. There is speculationthat the project is completed, ready and even possibly pressed. As recent as today (12-16-2001), i was told by Daz that besides all the legal bullshit and playerhating, "it will drop". Sooo for all you hopefuls, just know that Daz is intending on dropping the project. No word on a new release date (stay hopeful for the og release date), or if there will be a revamping or addition of material. Ill try to get more info as the opportunites arise...

holla back with opinions....

Sounds promising for the few that put their money up.. but I hope they don't fuck Daz over legally because of this.
At the end of the day... would u rather Daz broke, and DPG Recs fucked over? I hope not.

Personally... I wouldn't take that risk.

i mean. all that shit is krazy as hell. but i feel dat if pac was alive then he would've wanted the album to be released wit daz. but afeni is just out 4 da money. although daz probably wouldn't of had that much of a problem if he had asked her first and got permission. but it all comes down to copyright laws.

I find it funny people claim that Pac wanted it to be released considering he NEVER said anything about a Makaveli/Dillinger album.  Tha idea for that album came from Daz in 1998, and what Daz would have done was split up the 200 or so unreleased pac tracks, take one verse from each, and make between 600-700 songs, and put different artists on the tracks and give them new beats etc.

He has no claim to those tracks, considering "They don't give a fuck about us" is gonna enod up on the next pac album, and wasn't even produced by Daz.  He's taking these tracks, some which he didn't even produce, and releasing them and not giving a dime to Amaru, who owns all of pac's tracks, and Suge, who co-owns Pac's Death Row era tracks.

man i ain't talking about just that album in particular, i'm talking about pac working with less known artists so they can have shine but afeni is not letting that happen

aiight, I thought you were saying somethin else, but I think that she should have allowed Bad Azz to use "Ghetto Star" for his first album, but since Bad Azz sued Tha Row and the estate for writing I doubt she would have let him.  She should have let E-40 use a couple of Pac tracks for his albums (I'm really interested in hearing that song "Tribulations", but the real thing, not some bootlegged, tagged, and edited shit from deathrowbootleggers.com).
