since i make hiphop beats and i respect the culture and listen to the music i consider myself hiphop
-
Im White but I like rap alot. But I still act White so I dont really consider myself a hip-hop guy.

im also white.. hiphop isnt about which colour you are
-
I've never been shot, I don't have a big chain, and I don't drive a Bentley, but the majority of music I listen to is hip-hop. does that count?
-
I dress like a thug, i drive a chevy, and i wear chains... 8) 8) 8) and i got grapes too.
-
i'm white, i dress hip hop, but not in a wiggerish way, im moderate. Ive been listenning to hip hop since i was 11, i own a lot of cd's, i didn't grew up in this though, but most of my friends are like me. i do consider myself hip hop, because i respect and love this music to death
-
Fuck hip-hop, I'm me.
-
not anymore no
-
nah im just a weedaholic
-
There is no defination of a "hip hop guy", so it's hard to say. I'm black. I've listened to it since I was 12, but didn't get super deep into it until I was 16. I dress dress in hip hop gear, hip hop slang has fell into my vocabulary, and I love hip hop too. So yes I guess I am a "hip hop guy". But like Don Jacob said "I'm me". Which is a combination of many things including hip hop.
-
I love old westcoast rap music, I hate almost all other hip hop tho, excluding some artists. I hate hip hop gear. I think speding thousands or millions of dollars on bling is completely stupid. I can't stand hip hop stations on the radio. I do like the slang. I do love smoking weed. I don't really like ghetto people. I'd consider myself a rap fan, but not a hip hop person.
-
Smoking weed is not hip hop.
-
Smoking weed is not hip hop.
yes it is. Every single rapper I listen to raps about smoking weed.
-
Smoking weed is not hip hop.
yes it is. Every single rapper I listen to raps about smoking weed.
So hip hop made weed popular I guess.

smoking weed is smoking weed its not hip hop lol. I dont smoke weed and im hip hop.
-
but what really makes a person hiphop?
-
to all the people saying "i dress hiphop".. how do you dress hiphop??.. you dont need special clothes to be hiphop
-
I thought Hip Hop Was a culture?!?! (Mc'ing, Bboying, Djing, Graffitti) ......Ive Dj'ed and hung out with local writing crews, i cant B boy but i respect the culture and Mcing was something ive dabbled in as well ...... So yeah, Hip Hop is in my blood and its been passed on by older siblings too..
-
i love the hiphop culture. I Play basketball. 99% of the music that i listen 2 is hiphop related. am i considerd a hiphop guy?
-
I've been listening to rap music since the age of 12 and I have almost finished my memoir/thesis on The Evolution of Hip-Hop Culture - and for this I have studied the entire culture: rap music, breakdancing, turntablism, graffiti and beatboxing. I've read several books and watched several documentaries on hip-hop culture.
To me, hip-hop stands for "being true to yourself". So in that respect, I guesss you could call me a hip-hop guy. But when you use the term 'hip-hop' nowadays, the majority of the people immediately think of jewellery and fance cars. And I'd rather not be associated with that image....
Hip-Hop's not the only genre I listen to though. I find myself more and more listening to more calm music: soul, old school R&B, singer/songwriters, jazz, etc...
-
i´ve done graffiti, made beats and i listen to hip hop all day. but i don´t wear baggy clothes and whatnot coz i don´t think it´s comfortable. but i don´t know if i´m a hip hop guy or not, i like everything about the culture but these days it´s so watered down and corny so i don´t really wanna be associated with what most people consider hip hop.
-
^^What's studies do u do ? U wanna be a teacher if I'm right.. that thesis sounds interesting.. As for the question, I listen to hip hop for 9 years but I don't try to act hard, dress like a wigger or anything.. that's the sadest thing about it, lots of people are surprised that I'm a lot into hip hop music coz they think you have to wear a certain type of clothes, speak Xplicit language, ect...

i think it's up to yourself if you are.. personally i don't think you HAVE to do one of the four elements..

right now i'm talking about the "real" hiphop.. like it started..

Yeah, I'm in my last year at college to become a teacher of French, English and History. I just need to write my introduction for my thesis, and then it's all done. About 60 pages of plain text. So add the fact that I still have to take care of the lay-out of my thesis (titles, pics, etc...) and that will lead up to about 80 pages. Most of the other students in my class still have to get started with their thesis, which is crazy. The new schoolyear has just started and we've already gotten numerous tasks for the past few months. I'm glad I don't have to worry about my thesis anymore...

smoking weed is part of the hip hop culture. Just like its part of the reggae culture. Like I said every single rapper I listen to talks about smoking weed, in fact I can't name one westcoast rapper that doesn't have a song soley dedicated to getting high. Just because you don't smoke weed doesn't mean that you cant be hip hop. Smoking weed is just one part of it. These guys are getting bombed n the studio, I'm sure it has helped with their creativity. Don't be stupid guys, smoking weed is most definately part of the hip hop culture.
To the idiot that said hip hop made smoking weed popular, umm I didnt' say that, but you can say that if you want to. Hundreds of thousands of people smoke weed and hate rap music. Smoking weed was popular before rap music was even invented. seriously, how do people like you get to be so dumb?
-
I'm Mexican, I Dress White, and I Listen To Rap. I Consider Myself Hip Hop. I Don't Think Kam Has Ever Mentioned Smoking Weed.
-
When I hear the word Hip-Hop I think of real music (ATCQ, Gang Starr, Rakim ect), when it's Rap I think of that wack shit.
I think there is a massive difference between Hip-Hop culture & Rap culture.

why?
-
Why do you care whether you are allowed to call yourself a "hiphop guy" or not?
You are who you are. If you consider yourself one, then call yourself one. End of story.
I don't think people have actually sat down and thought about whether they are a "hiphop guy", I certainly haven't.
-
You are who you are. If you consider yourself one, then call yourself one. End of story.
yes and that was what i asked for?

I feel the same. I listen to alot of hip hop but I don't consider myself hip hop. I don't wear tall-tees and the corny ass clothing associated with it. I live in a city and there is millions of dipset clones. Shit I hardly use the slang. I have more than a 10 word vocabulary.
-
Definitely. I started listening to the music 19 years ago, got deep into the shit when I hit high school, right around when Ice Cube went solo. I've rapped, done the battle and open mic freestyle thing, I was deep into it at one time. At that time, everyone I was around was either into rhymin, dj'in, breakin, a couple of cats did graffitti. I've also played around with the beats.
I'm older now and I'm not really into the culture like that anymore, but it will always be a part of me. Hip hop is something inside you, and you'll always be hip hop even as you get older and your lifestyle changes.
-
Aside from being a closet black nationalist, no.
-
i like rap but nah not a hip-hop guy. i like certain shit.

Hip-Hop is a culture. Not a culture of bling, or gangsta, but they kind of blend in.
Myself, I grew up on the more gangsta leaning side of hip-hop, but no bling. I use to break, never graffitied, though I hung out with artist, and I never DJ'd, but I have TONS of DJ friends, and on top of that, I do write rhymes, and emcee. Though I many battle on corners, that's being hip-hop.
-
hip hop is dead mufucka im a G-G-G-G-G-G-UNIIIIIT soldier
And guess who helped twist the knife:
"G-G-G-G-G-G-UNIIIIIT"
-
I love the music and the culture, apart from that I dont feel like there is anything I have to try and be to be hiphop.
I aint gotta do shit to be hiphop, I just am.
-
You goddamn right I'm Hip-Hop.
-
I consider myself more street then hiphop.
-
