just bacause of how long he has been around ans his musical experience and also the practise and the knowledge he has built up through his career i aint a big fan or nothin..either him or someone in involved in rock

well i think most people here gonna talk about hip hop procucer, well thats what i would do cause it's more of an hip hop board ..... Dr.dre , this year was just amazing fo the bigg doc 8)

hip hop wise.....u cant beat premo....maybe be a lil repetative but i havent heard a bad beat from him ever..puttin out classics for over a decade

i'd actually put 4 producers over him in the hip hop world

pete rock
quik
organized noise
primo is good but can only do one style, sample choppig, which is a foundation of hip hop but in music to produce is to actualy create sounds and melodies that have never been heard before...dj premier is more of a dj mixer than a producer that's not a diss

i dont rate quik much...maybe its just me....but im not into that...as far as hip hop greats..i cant put him in that category
pete rock has created some classic stuff but he dissapeared for a while...premo has been consistent.
creatin beats for some of hip hops finest but also for not so good artist but still makin them sound good..
prince paul is also up there
but premo to me, is the greatest of all time, so many people have tried to copy him....but fail..miserably

Primo is the greatest hip hop producer EVER, bar none. I dont care how repetitive he is, no one has as consistant of a formula as Primo, and like dude above said, he got 12 years of classic hits under his belt.
RZA, Dre, Pete Rock, Organized Noise, Havoc, Uneek/Tony C, Bomb Squad, Daz, and Erik Sermon are just a notch below him.

dj premier is a dj mixer, one of the best at that...but is not a musical poducer in rap he's considered a producer but in the music world as a whole they wouldn't consider what he does as producing....he's a dj mixer
if you like dj premier more than dre....hey that's cool
but don't say dj premier is a better overall producer than dre becuase dj premier is hardly even considered a producer.....hence the "DJ" in front of his name

i fail to see how he isnt a producer......do people not call him up and say will u do a beat for me? what does premo do? does he get some1 to produce it for him then he mixes it? i dont understand what ur sayin.....has gangstarr has another producer all these years and premo just mixes?
All Eyez on Me, Marshall Mathers LP,Slim Shady Lp ...dre didnt do much on these albums.....a few tracks here and there but didnt solely produce it....
regardless...dre is one of the most talented producers in history yeh...im not sayin he isnt
but i dont see him as the 'goat'..just not in my eyes
every beat premo has laced for some1 has been above average, most absolute classics.....i bought Life After Death becos of all the hype surrounding it and i was a lil dissapointed with it, but i still bump that because of 'kick in the door' and 'ten crack commandments'...theres classics....
tracks he put down for black on both sides were amazin.... the beat he done on common's last album was ill too.....he basicaly had the only good beat on Rakim's 'The Master'.....his work with krs one is dope...and the tracks he done for nas are all classic.....ny state of mind...nas is like...
i know im prolly blabbin now but dre isnt on the same level in my eyes....

but what i'm saying is dj premier doens't PRODUCE music he mixes samples....

Primo got his fair share of classic/near classic material too, like Illmatic, all the Gangstarr albums, Reasonable Doubt, etc etc....
and lets not forget about RZA. "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" is one of the top 5 produced albums ever, IMO.

Y'all gettin carried away, look at the topic...Best producer outside of hip-hop. Jake & I could go on and on bout Dre's work, and you could go on and on bout Primo.
