Official Press Release: Emerging West Coast rapper Damani has signed with My Block/Sony Urban Music, who will release the young artist's first full-length album.
An Inglewood native, Damani is pioneering a new approach to West Coast rap, breaking musical and lyrical boundaries as a dominant force in the current Los Angeles hip-hop scene. An in-demand MC in local hip-hop clubs, Damani began to draw airplay on major LA radio stations -- including serious BDS spins on Power 105.9 and K Day 93.5 -- with tracks like "Inglewood" and "Gotta Stay Paid."
Raised on the streets of LA, Damani was determined to develop a sound and style that would transform the LA hip-hop world. Toward that goal, he released his breakout mix-tape, "Congratulations Playa," hosted DJs Reflex and Skee, which made him one of the most sought-after artists on the West Coast.
As admiration for his skills grew in the local rap community, Damani earned the respect of a number of West Coast rap pioneers, whose work had first inspired him to go into music, including Dr. Dre, Mel Man, and his biggest influence, Snoop Dogg, who called Damani an artist "….I could pass the torch to and watch it burn."
"Damani is an important new voice in West Coast hip-hop, combining the truth and soul of the streets with hypnotic rhythms and an incredible musical sophistication," said Lisa Ellis, President, Sony Urban Music. "Sony Urban is proud to welcome him to our label family and look forward to working with him in creating a new chapter in hip-hop history."
"Damani brings a new perspective to West Coast hip-hop," said Kawan "KP" Prather, Executive Vice President, A&R, Sony Urban Music. "As much as he was born and raised in Inglewood and has the respect of the streets, he has also seen other parts of the world. And he's able to let people know, through his music, that it's ok to represent your hood, but it's also great to experience as much life as possible. To me, that's gangsta, for real."

Btw, Dj Skee is the best westcoast mixtape DJ in the game. Warrior is a close second but between Crooked I, Game, Crazy Tunes, and Damani...skee has it locked.

there's actually a 3rd West Coast rapper that just signed to Sony.. Stay tuned to Dubcnn for the exclusive. Dubcc is not as familiar with him like they are with Glasses and Damani, but believe me they will learn about him soon enough!

Inglewood lyricist Damani intends to bring some different West Coast flavor to the table. With raw lyrics and charismatic flow, Damani plans to keep the radio - instead of the streets - bangin.

Most people probably first heard of Damani on Kurupts last album "Space Boogie" on the song "Hate On Me" which also featured Soopafly. Damani has also recorded with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Clinton Sparks and others.
Damani is signed to Fully Blown Records. He has a few real good underground tracks out. Some of them are "Speak On It", "Damani", or his hometown joint "Inglewood" where he's takin it back to the hood. Here are some of the lyrics from "Inglewood":
"I Walk the streets of Ingelwood and its not all good/I try to mind my business but niggas steady mind mine/Niggas must dont know that self-defense is not a crime/Im not a thug rapper/Im a rapper with thug tendencies/ I aint got no time for fightin too many women envy me/Im dark skin, 6'3'', 200/Come on dogg tell me do you really want it?/West, see it from here aint no MC that I fear/Ill go line for line with anyone on either hemisphere"
Damani had a radio single in summer 2002 called "Move" with the tight ass B-Side called "Remember The Day". Damani recorded a "Move Remix" featuring Clypse which came out in January 2003.
Damani's "Move" was Produced by Clinton Sparks.
Other tracks are "Stay Foolish" featuring Big Mike, which is a remake of Ashanti's "Foolish". Songs like "As If U Didnt Know" have a East Coast feel, but Damani keeps it Str8 West Coast on songs like "Rogers Park" or "Olympic Pimpin". Rapper Toshamakia is Damani's labelmate, they recorded a few songs together, one of them is "Be Yourself".
Damani was on the underground Remix of Tweet's "Call Me" which can be heard right here...."Call Me (Remix)".
Most of the songs mentioned here are featured on his demo he has out right now. Damani shouldnt be limited to only one coast or style, sure he is reppin the West to the fullest, but he has a nice East Coast flavor.
Last but not least two more songs to check out, two Freestyles to be exact. The first one is a Freestyle for Dj Kurupt and next up is a Freestyle over the Addictive beat.
Damani has production by Clinton Sparks, Soopafly and D. Evans. He has the skillz to blow up for sure, all he needs is to catch thr ear of the right label and some exposure.
