Well, this year was incredible for hiphop, the best year since the mid 90's. Westcoast, eastcoast, downsouth, canada, everywhere represented and came with dope albums. These are my favourites of the year, although prolly not the best in most people's opinions.
1. Return of the Regulator- Warren G (my fav. by far)
2. Disposable Arts- Masta Ace (incredible album, with impeccable production and one of the best on the mic.
3. Stillmatic- Nas (prolly would be my fav. if i had it on cd, and if it was actually out)
4. BLueprint- Jay Z (although not very original, a great album from front to back. Basically the whole album is based on samples, but so was The Chronic, so i can't hate on this album for that reason alone)
5. The Realness- Cormega (this album really surprised me, he came with a simple yet deep album. Similar to Illmatic, although Cormega is not on Nas' level)
6. The LAst Meal- Snoop Dogg (so what if it came out in Dec.2000, the Source had it on their list and so do I....listening to this album now, it is apparent just how good it really is. Expectations were way too high, and Snoop picked the wrong singles. Still, this album is great, i can listen to it front to back save like 3 songs.)
Honourable meantion: Ghostface, Wutang(the new one, it is DOPE), Swollen Members, Chino XL, Pep Love, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Dillinger & Gotti(all of these are GREAT, i just didn't get a chance to listen to them enough yet)
Oh ya, props to MJ too, even though this list is just rap albums....
Well, that is my list. I would say that the West did not shine this year like the past two years(sure Nate and Dre were everywhere, but they didn't drop albums), but i think 2002 will be huge for them. With Warren G and Nate Dogg going strong, and with Xzibit, Knocturnal, a possible Dre album, Snoop, and maybe even 213, the West has got 2002 locked down. However, the east brought the best in 2001. PEACE
Oh ya, post your lists.........

-
1. Masta Ace - Disposable Arts.... I'll like this even more when hiphopsite.com SENDS ME MY FUCKING COPY..... but its just an incredible return from the music man.
2. Warren G - Return Of The Regulator... another come back of sorts... Warren returns to his roots, showing people how an album should be crafted on the production side.
3. Chino XL - I Told You So....I waited 6 years for this album and was not disappointed... no one can spit fire with the consistency of Chino....
4. Ghostface Killah - Bulletproof Wallets...This album might have been as high as #2 if it had The Sun or the original Flowers... as it stands this is the album that leads Wu back into the spotlight....
5. Athletic Mic League - The Thrill Is Gone ... out of Michigan aka Waterworld... these cats are ill on the mic and also have dope production... right tee? very impressive project.
6. Nas - Stillmatic .... i've only had it a few days but its definitely ill. it was hard to pick this over some of my honorable mentions... which are...
Mystic - Cuts For Luck & Scars For Freedom
Pep Love - Ascension
Wu-Tang Clan - Iron Flag
Subterraneous - Waterworld Too
Dilated Peoples - Expansion Team
7L & Esoteric - The Soul Purpose
