Snoop Dogg Arrested with Gun at Burbank Airport

October 26, 2006, 8:43 PM PDT

Rapper Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus was arrested Thursday for possession of a firearm and transportation of a controlled substance (marijuana) at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank.

He was stopped for a vehicle code violation in a passenger loading/unloading zone. Officers say a further investigation found Broadus in possession of a firearm and marijuana.

Broadus was booked at the Burbank Jail with bail set at $35,000. He is set to be arraigned Monday in Burbank Superior Court.

Possible charges are still pending against Broadus in Orange County after authorities found a 21-inch collapsible baton in his bags as he boarded a New York-bound flight at John Wayne International Airport .

According to sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, Broadus had the baton in his laptop case as he went through a security checkpoint at the airport on September 27th.

The 35-year-old rapper told deputies the baton was a prop for a movie he was filming in New York. "He had a collapsible baton and it is classified as a dangerous weapon," Amormino said, adding that the stick collapsed to eight inches.

The district attorneys office received the sheriff's report on Monday. Prosecutors have not decided whether to charge Broadus, who was not arrested.

The rapper has a long history of problems at airports.

In May, he accepted responsibility for using "threatening words or behavior" in an April brawl at Heathrow Airport in London. Snoop Dogg and five other men were arrested on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl after some members of the rapper's party were denied entry to British Airways' first-class lounge.

Seven officers received minor injuries - mainly cuts and bruises - and one suffered a fracture to the hand.

British Airways has banned Snoop Dogg from future travel on the airline, it said last month.

Snoop Dogg was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession and was charged with gun possession after a 1993 traffic stop. Facing a possible three years in prison, he pleaded guilty in exchange for three years' probation and his promise to make anti-violence public service announcements.

He also was acquitted of murder in 1996 following the death of an alleged street gang member killed by gunfire from the vehicle Snoop Dogg was traveling in.

Snoop Dogg's 1993 album "Doggystyle" sold 5 million copies.

what the fuck???? Snoop really has his problems in airports!  here is another incident that just happend today!

Just yesterday in Music News, we mentioned that Young Jeezy collaborated with Snoop Dogg on Snoop's upcoming album, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and MTV quoted Jeezy as saying, "Snoop, he smokes hella weed, but he's just a cool guy." Well, now that hella weed has gotten Snoop in some trouble with the law. The D-O-Double G was reportedly arrested and booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm and transportation of a controlled substance at the Burbank airport on Thursday.

Snoop was parked in a passenger loading and unloading zone at the airport and was initially approached by an officer for a traffic violation, says CNN.com, but "An investigation revealed Calvin Broadus [aka Snoop] to be in possession of marijuana and a firearm," the police said. The Rapper was arrested and taken to the Burbank Police Department Jail, where he was later booked. He then posted bail of $35,000 and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 12.

"There was no basis for this arrest," said Snoop's lawyer, Donald Etra, according to CNN. "We believe that once this is cleared up, all charges will be dismissed."

Snoop's felony conviction stems from 1990 when he was convicted on a felony narcotics possession charge for trying to sell cocaine.
