So with 2 months left and Snoop, Game and Pac (pac is still west coast dead or alive) still left to drop along with a couple underground and indie joints, is the west on its way back? I want to hear the good and the bad, what it will take for it to get here and what is holding it back.
-
the west wont come back in the next 20 years atleast like the g-funk era.
-
not like the g-funk era nah it wont.
but having said that im lovin what the west os offering right now, more than i have for a while. game & snoop set to drop banging records and nothing but fire coming from the likes of scipio, roccett, scan, g.malone, bishop lamont, problem, the rep yo set album is insane, ya boy...all these and more spittin absolute FIRE right now. im really loving my west coast music at the moment and whats on offer, more than i have for ages.
-
the west will never be what it was during the N.W.A. era or the G-Funk era.
i see it having success like it did after Dre 2001 dropped.. a few platinum and gold plaques here and there from west coast artists.. i mean it already started with the documentary goin 2xplatinum, then Cube goin gold independently, then E-40 certified gold.. next up is Snoop, Game, Pac, and early next year im sure bishop lamont and glasses malone will get some plaques... im pretty sure blunts lla could do well since he on geffen/interscope and could do some cross promotion with game/snoop

give it up
the more I think about the 'West Coast' place in music, I start to feel like a loser
take it for what it's worth, don't take it so seriously
I could give a fuck if Snoop Dogg and The Game flop
I'm tired of politics in music and fags everywhere hyping wack shit up
that goes for East Coast, South and West.... it's all garbage except for a select few here and there

Hey I can respect your opinion. Let's keep this going, good or bad.
-
I wasn't comin at you personally or nothin
but to answer the topic question, no I don't think so
the only one out of who you named that will sell is most likely Game
I see Snoop doing okay and Pac forget about that shit, who wants to hear that
-
naw..west ain't coming back.... actually west hardly even exist these days...
it seems west ain't got an identity no more...like a lost sheep.....baaaahhh.. :)

That is music as a whole for the most part.

yeassss The Game iz back = the west Coast is back!!!!!!
-
we need a whole bunch of artists from the west to bumrush the stage all at once. one or only 2 mainstream rappers from our side wont be able bring and put our shit on top. i like what Game was doing with has Black Wall Street label, getting all the talent up and down the west coast, and putting them under one umbrealla...but nigga dont know how to run a buissnes...but he has the formula.
-
Well, the West Coast got plenty of talented artists. The only problem was that a lot of them didn't get any deals the past few years. However, with Omar Cruz, Bishop Lamont, G. Malone, Damani and - hopefully - Crooked I all coming out in 2007 on majors, it's looking very promising 8)
-
When 2006 is over it'll be looked at as a step forward for the West Coast. Ice Cube and E-40 did there thing and went gold. Snoop Dogg will go at least gold and The Game will go platinum. It gets better in 2007. G. Malone releases his album in Feburary. While I doubt it'll go platinum it could sell 700K. Dr. Dre releases Detox (hopefully) and it'll probably go 6x platinum again. Bishop Lamont has crazy talent and being on Aftermath he has a legit chance at going 2x platinum (if he doesn't get pushed back to 2008). Omar Cruz should sell okay on Interscope. Ya Boy is also marketing himself well, and has an eye for success. There will be some question marks regarding Lil' E, Crooked I, Eastwood, Clyde Carson, Mistah F.A.B., and The Federation, but they all are releasing good music and have a chance to sell.
The West Coast obviously will never reach that 92-96 success they had. I doubt any region will. But by the end of 2007 the West should be back in comptetion with the East Coast and even the South.

hip hop will never die ;D
-
i think this year the west certainly seemed like a step forward than the previous year.....so i actually think the west is coming back...i just hope 2007 will be an even bigger step forward than this year.....
-
Alot of vets came back and did albums this year. That is why I want to see what the new cats will do in 07. Gotta show the world the west is in good hands once the vets leave. BTW, I am really anticipating Maylay and Ya Boy right now. Those 2 are my favs out of the new artists at the moment.

G. Malone, Bishop Lamont, Omar Cruz, Ya Boy, Mistah F.A.B., The Federation, The Team, Lil Eazy-E. What more do you need from 2007? 8)

ya to me it's the best year since 2001... after that there hasn't been too many good albums
but this year you got some big names dropping and it is a step forward
-
Good to hear people are going to give some new cats a listen. So many people putting the west in the grave man. It might take a little bit but we got some talent out here.

I am glad west coast artists are doing collabos with Game. If they would not work with him after all the disses and G-Unot madness, he would have been done. All these artists working with him on the west is showing steps towards more unity out here.

He should reach out to the new artists coming up also. It would mean alot to have Game on these albums even for the recognition it will bring. Game is very lucky that he is accepted on the west for the most part. It kinda would have been a catch 22. Our biggest new artist not accepted would have meant going back to find another artist, and then that would have meant the same ol rappers out here having to hold the torch. It's time for Crooked I to drop something also.

i can kinda agree with you there... it makes me feel like im "waiting on pac to return" so to say...
more than that, i get pissed when i hear people say GAME BOUGHT THE WEST BACK, IMO, Game bought Game to the top, no one else... in order for game to put the west "back" on the map, IMO, he'd better drop some chronic/2001 shit, with 2 features on EVERY TRACK, needs 150% put into production, and a few more things....
IMO, west is right where it needs to be; among (us) fans..... who the fuck wants to buy a CD full of shit you hear all day on the radio?... 8)
-
^^^Definitely needs to be among the fans, but you got supposed "west coast fans" saying the west is dead. I agree there is some albums and artists following the same formula from the 90's, but there is some new and fresh music out here. But like I said, It is good to know that people still are supportive.
-
Nigga all i gotta say is MC Eiht - "STILL DRIVEBY MUSIC " you will learn not to bet against the best sorry clowns !!!!!!! Geah Compton King is still comin Strapped !!!!!!! 8) 8)
-
The early 90's was a time when the west was at it's best but at the momment there isn't much on offer. Compared to say the east which has a lot of old and new cats making good albums. I'd like to see what happens with hyphy but tbh it sounds to similar to crunk for it to really take off. Hope someone like Dre can come up with a new west coast sound...
-
man, fuck no, not right now at least.

The east coast for a while there seemed like it was going through a indenity crisis. Not meant to be a diss, there are alot of east coast artists that keep it true, but for a while alot of east coast artists were using the west coast sound and now alot are on the south's sound. All coasts borrow different elements from others, we even have west coast mc's that sound east coast. But it seems like rappers from the west and the east want to swing the attention back to their coasts.
-
I haven't been feeling west for long time...and I don't think I'll ever listen to current west music for while...
Obviously gangsta rap just died back in late 90s...and west is still hanging on to something from the past....
Same ol sound but worst.... I'm hoping west be doing something else beside gangsta rap.... because without that...west ain't shit.
I don't feel snoop is anything special...ain't no different than many west rappers these days.
-
We really need a artist that is not gangsta rap to blow up. Black Eyed Peas if they were to have the success they have now without compromising the music they would be a good example. People will support west coast music but it is almost expected that 1) It has to have Snoop on it or Dre to be tight, 2) Dre has to produce at least half of the album and they all have to be singles.

well, it's not about being "non gangsta" rap.... but i'm talking about being more original... like game..he ain't orginal...he just walking mascot of nwa...
i'm talking about something that will have us step outside of this "gangsta rap" box.
