Thats what i wonder since i was listening to rap... Vote guys!!! See what we want to most?
-
First thing I notice is the beat.
Great question, by the way.
-
the lyrics are the ones that make a song have lasting power, but it's the music that first bring me in.
-
Till the begining of 90s, raps, flows and rhymes were making a song rap with toneless old skool beats(includes only bass and drum kits), later the guys like Dre started to use samples and that was the way to go todays modern melodic rap music. After the chronic and doggystyle music came into rap game and been an important thing. Yes rap means lyrics but it needs a quality music to make people listen the lyrics, isnt it? Sometimes beat can be awsome but it needs a chorus to efect y'all, some hasnt a good one can sound avarage with a good beat and good verse and Sometimes collabos can make a song interesting like Ice and King-T's Check your game and Eminem and Dre's Guilty Concience, i think both got avarage beats, but rap and collabo makes them interesting maybe a CLASSIC!

^ i agree, the beat's gotta be tight.
-
it depend what mood i'm in....could be the beat or could be the lyrics...or even the flow...

Couldnt say it any better. If the beat is great enough though it can also give a song lasting power.

thats it right there
-
dr dre said that as a dj the most important part of a song is the first 15 seconds..
there gotta be a beat, a chorus or a line that keeps me on the song.. if not i'm flipping thru the cd to find another track..
-
i listen for flow and lyrics first. but if a song that aint too hot lyrically has a dope beat and a dope hook it can still be aight.
-
Lyrical content. And a smacking beat is prefered of course.
-
beats always come first... if the beats wak, i cant stand a song... if the lyrics are doo doo, then i hate a track too, but the first thing you hear is a beat when you play a song...
and then again, look at jay-z, he generally picks good beats, but alot of people hate him because of his content/voice/flow.. then you got pac rappin over some mediocre beats, that only pac can make good, and he can make the track a classic...

Yeah yeah. The beat hooks me in, but if it doesn't a have good flow and good lyrics on it, track ain't all that.

it seems most wants to hear a good music first..
Nobody choose chorus? Why we got a man named Nate-Dogg in west coast :D
-
Nobody beats the beats
-
I always prefered beats and flow over lyrics. Thats why im probably on a westcoast forum and not a eastcoast forum.
