Title: The big hits / classics that you never felt..
Post by: JMan on November 04, 2006, 03:11:59 AM
dont matter how big a track is / was, theres always a few people who didnt feel them as much.. so was wondering what tracks people wasnt feeling as much as everyone else..

for me Dre's "forgot bout dre" springs to mind.. ive never been into this track for some reason and always viewed it as one of the lesser tracks from 2001...

I actullay bump The Chronic and Doggystyle rather rarely. Chronic was just weighed down by the negative lyrical content on some tracks. The coolest way to diss a dude is just to shut the hell up, like Kokane and ATL did on Funk Upon a Rhyme. Doing only a single diss track to Dre and Snoop was gangsta as hell 8)

Feel the same way about Quik's "Quik Is The Name" and Warren G's "Regulate G-Funk Era". Great albums, but both their beats and lyrical content has just improved sooo much since then

I was never a big Dogg Food fan. I can't call it a wack album, I just gotta be in a certain mood to enjoy it.

DJ Quik- Sweet Black Pussy

It's a cool track but really, it isn't very special is it? A shitty rapping young DJ Quik over a sped up Gap Band-beat. It would hardly be a mixtape track if it were released nowadays.

I have to agree on the Forgot About Dre song.  Actually, I never liked any song with Eminem on it.

I never liked Westside Connection's Bow Down (the song).  But Gangstas make the World Go Round and King of the Hill are dope.  I also never really felt Xzibit's song "X".

Everybody's opinion is their own...but I think it's unfair to judge songs 95 and before by lyrical content, because rap hadn't even evolved to that level yet. It's like knockin Bob Cousy for not having a killer crossover.

But for me.....it's not too many classic songs that I just don't feel at all, as far as West Coast songs that are known by the entire nation and not just "Dubcc" classics.

As far as songs that I like, but just don't love like most people do.....
2Pac - How do you want it....cool song, I know it by heart and sing along to it, but it was never a GREAT song to me...I prefer Toss it up.

Dr. Dre ft. Snoop - Still D.R.E......great song, definitely classic....but I just don't think the beat was as amazing as most people seem to say. I prefer "The Wash" beat over this, even though this song is still better as a song.

NWA - Straight outta Compton and Fuck the police....definitely two epic songs that I consider great for many reasons. However, I can't get into either beat as much as I can with many of Dre's older beats, such as "Dopeman" "Boyz n da hood" "Always into somethin" "Deep cover" "Gangsta Gangsta". I don't take anything away from it, because I know they are nearly 20 years old, and I don't like too many beats from that era.

Above The Law - Black Superman....I don't think it's a bad song at all, but I just never felt it the same way most people on here do. I never play it like I do with most other West classics.

I never really liked Keep Their Heads Ringin', the beat is dope but I never could stand the chorus...

Also I'm probably one of the few people on here who doesn't think the world of Chronic 2001, it was a dissapointment to me  (Eminem's presence on the album was a major turn off for me) when I first heard it back in '99 but I started to appreciate it more in the years that followed...

I know what ur sayin about 2001 at the time I was not in2 Em at all (still not) so I wasn't feelin Dre 4 signin him. Took me a while b4 I even got that album but I luv it now!!!

Most of Eminem stuff shits me!! But I don't class them as classic's !!!!!!!!!

And I can't get in2 The Game's stuff, I mean he has great beats and his flow ain't bad but he shits me!! I think he says Dr Dre's name about 1000 times on Dr. Advicate!!!!!!

Peace

2pac - How Do You Want It
My least favorite 2pac song, this song is just annoying.

I never like Natural Born Killers...

It's not west coast but I hated De La Soul's Me Myself and I when it dropped, still don't like it, it's corny. I love all their other music though.

DJ Quik's Safe and Sound is my least favorite Quik song, I just don't care for it although I love 98% of his music, that song I just don't like it.

How We Do is horrible, so is Drop it Like it's hot

Nothing but the Cavi hit, don't like that one either, it just sounds uninspired, like they recorded it just for the hell of it. This is also where Kurupt begins to lose his focus lyrically, he sounds like he doesn't want to be in the studio at all.

I never liked the Twins, that hit song they had, Round and Round, I thought it was terrible.

I only like about 4 or 5 songs on Niggaz 4 Life, most of that album is unlistenable, the lyrical content is horrendous.

Keep their heads ringing is boring, I never really cared for it.

It's not west coast but I hate Gangstarr's Mass Appeal, the beat is repetive and boring and the rapping is a cure for insomnia. I don't get what's so great about that song.

Xplosive is an assault to the ears, I hate that song. Cut Kurupt's verse out and the song improves to average. Still it's the worst song on 2001.

I don't like the remix for Ice Cube's Check Yourself, I like the original that was on Predator 100X more.

I don't like Dogg Pound's I Don't Like to Dream About Getting Paid, I always skip it.

What's that song with E40 and Too Short that was on the radio 10 years ago, where they brag about their money for the whole song, never cared for it.

Ras Kass's Nature of the Threat, yeah I know, but that beat sounds like some repetive chime repeated over 8 minutes and Ras Kass forgets that he's supposed to flow over a beat. It doesn't sound like a song, just Ras Kass reading an essay over some random repeating noise. It's a nice historical effort, but it doesn't make for good music.
