Alright y'all I'ma rate the top 10 hiphop instrumentals of 2001, the undisputed best.
# 1 - Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On
Prod: Timbaland
Timbaland has inspected world music, and the result is a superb folk music-inspired beat.
# 2 - Dr. Dre feat. Knoc-Turn'al - Bad Intentions Prod: Mahogany
About as good as a hiphop instrumental can get. Perfectly hiphop suited flute beat.
# 3 - Jay-Z - Never Change
Prod: Kanye West
Kanye West is starting to impress me. Never Change is a beautiful song with strings and the "Common Man" sample is brilliant.
# 4 - D12 - Fight Music
Prod: Dr. Dre
Dre's experiment with rock music provides an very aggressive rock/hiphop beat for D12 to flow on. Eminem's verse is unbelieveable, but that is irrelevant here. Dope, dope beat.
# 5 - DMX - We Right Here
Prod: Black Key
Dark, moody beat suited PERFECTLY for DMX. Phat drums, dark strings, ill beat.
# 6 - Guru feat. Killah Priest, Timbo King & Black Jesus - In Here
Prod: The Alchemist
Superb beat by the God Alchemist. The piano loop here is the work of a genius.
# 7 - Bubba Sparxxx - Ugly
Prod: Timbaland
Club banger of the year. Timbaland has a special gift. He can make a very simple beat like this a dope fucking beat. Bubba flows with fury here, like Eminem on his 1st verse on Jay-Z's "Renegade".
# 8 - Jadakiss feat. Styles & Sheek - None Of Y'all Betta
Prod: DJ Premier
Gangsta, gangsta beat provided by Premier, one of the best to do it, complete with his trademark scratches and samples. Simple, but phat.
# 9 - Jadakiss feat. Styles - We Gonna Make It
Prod: The Alchemist
Famous "stolen" beat from Ras Kass. Shit, now everybody out West is gonna hate on Alchemist, LOL. Alchemist uses violin strings on this very hot beat. Great voilin rhythm.
# 10 - Kurupt feat. Nate Dogg, Xzibit & MC Ren - The Hardest Mutha Fuckas
Prod: Fred Wreck
Guitar loops at a a high level from Fred Wreck, one of the best from the West at the moment. Fred Wreck is a exellent producer.
So there you have it. Feel free to holla back with your own lists and feedback. I'm out, Peace.

2001 december , LAY LOW niyya.. bubba wasn'T even here in december
-
"the wash" produced by dr. dre and dj pooh....snoop dogg and doc muthafuccin dre, nigga can ya feel this...
-
I'ma just say that "Family Affair" by Dre is the hottest of 2001 and one of Dre's hottest beats since '99.
-
Man, I ment (as written at the end of November) not including December.
"Family Affair" is an R&B beat, Incognito. Can you imagine anyone rapping over that beat? I rated the best hiphop beats (not including December) of 2001 in my post.
"The Wash" was also a hot beat, but the ones listed were
2001's finest.
Peace

im listenin to a remix of it, with Jadakiss & Fabolous on it.. doesn't sound too bad.
i'm gonna go with Family Affair, or Bottom Feeders.

FUCK THAT!
"Get Ur Freak On" performed by Missy Elliott and produced by Timbaland is the BEST HIP-HOP beat of 2001, without question.
Listen to it, to the complexity of this instrumental and how he switches it back and forth at the end.
"FAMILY AFFAIR" is not a motherfucking HIPHOP beat!
Mary J. Blige is an R&B singer.
Dr. Dre produced the intro of Snoop Dogg's "Tha Last Meal" and that was also an R&B beat , NOT a hip-hop beat, like "Family Affair".
BTW, what's that "Bottom Feeders" shit, Mighty Whitey?
You a Everlast fan?

my bad

Bottom Feeders is from the Smut Peddlers. CAgE, Eon, Mighty Mi .. off the Porn Again album, i'd advise you not to listen to it if you watch TRL though ..
Everlast fan? Er, no. I'm white. What do you want me to call myself? Blacky Black?

i'm a huge timb fan and i love that get your freak on beat beat BUT....it's very simplistic....just go check the tabs
and uh mary j blige is the queen of HIP HOP soul...and if family afair ain't a rap beat ....neither is "x" becuas they use the same technique
but as of right now i'd have to say the BEST beat this year...hmmm i dunno it's hard to tell
Dre had some outstanding shit
Timbo came correct
Alchemist boost his name
Automator blessed us
i dunno it's too hard to tell ALOT of shit is neck and neck

KVB - Dre is a hip-hop producer, and always is whether he's lacin an r&b or rock artist. "Family Affair" could of easily been in the hands of some rapper, but Mary was the one who got it. This is a hip-hop beat, and I think it counts. Your talkin bout BEATS, it doesn't matter who's singin/rappin.
-
Personally, I think Battlecat & Meech did a wonderful job on Duces N Trayz and RZA just killed me with Brooklyn Babies, Do U and Cant Lose.
Timbaland just did some more pop shit this year up to November. Nevertheless, I think Indecent Proposal is what Timbo made str8 from the heart.
-
Incognito - Imagine Jadakiss, Xzibit or any other rapper flow on "Family Affair". It just isn't suitable, is it? The beat mas made for Mary J. Blige, not for a rapper. It is an R&B beat, like he (Dre) did for Snoop on Tha Last Meal "Intro". Check for yourself. Remember Dre used to produce R&B before he joined
The World Class Wreckin' Cru for a girls trio named JJ.
(I read this in the N.W.A. Greatest Hits booklet, check if you got that album)
Mighty Whitey - I figured you were a Everlast fan since he calls himself Whitey Ford. My Bad
-

I'm still sayin this IS A HIP-HOP BEAT! It gets played SO much on my local hip-hop station, and not just the Remix. It would be ill to here a rapper on this shit, havin X rhymin over it with that Mary hook...tight.
-
KVB1000, we don't have to imagine Jadakiss spittin over that beat cuz he already did it for the remix! Anyway, that beat is tight and just cuz it is on an r&b song doesn't mean it is an r&b beat. Did you know Luther Vandross currently has a remix over the Lay Low beat, and it is actuallt pretty good. If Dre woulda gave this beat to an R&B artist first, i suppose this beat would be an R&B beat too, right? Man, open your ears and you will hear how similar rap and r&b beats have become......

10 BEST BEATS THIS YEAR IMO
KURUPT - SPACE BOOGIE
D12 - NASTY MIND
BUSTA RHYMES - BREAK YA NECK
CYPRESS HILL - LOWRIDER
THA DOGG POUND - SMOKE
DMX - WE RIGHT HERE
STICKY FINGAZ - GET IT UP
MISSY - GET UR FREAK ON
D-12 - REVELATION
THA LIKS - PROMOTE VIOLINS
-
that mary j beat is hot but it's sooooooooooooooooooo simple. There are plenty of beats better then that this year. I don't think that this beat is even close to dre's best beat this year.
-
OK, OK, i still say that "Family Affair" is R&B, but what the hell... I see it as R&B.
Tha Liks "Promote Violins" ? I'm listenin' to it right now. Decent, but not close to being one of the best of 2001.
Kurupt "Space Boogie" ? Nice beat, but not one of the best in 2001.
D12 - "Nasty Mind" ???? ??? ??? WTF?
Maybe Dre's worst ever beat. It's waaaaaaay too plain.
Don't get me wrong, every beat he makes is dope, but this is wack in his standards.
Busta Rhymes "Break Ya Neck" is phat, but average by Dre's standards.
Cypress Hill "Lowrider" is smooth laid back funk, but hardly one of the best this year.
Tha Dogg Pound "Smoke" probably wasn't recorded this year, Chef.
I agree with: Missy Elliott "Get Ur Freak On" (No.1),
D12 - "Relevation" was also one of the best,
DMX "We Right Here"
I haven't heard Sticky Fingaz "Get It Up". is that Dr. Dre produced?
-
honestly i think tha hardest beat of tha year i heard was frum "bring back that G shit" off "space Boogie.."
also..."hate on me" frum tha same album...wit soopafly in it...
-
EL-P's shit topped everything this year IMO
dre was aight
automator was pretty nice
timb dropped some nice beats
lots of nice production this year
oh and by the way i figured out how to get blocked songs on audiogalaxy
when you click on a copyrighted song, go up to the address bar and copy everything that comes after the question mark.. than go to the yellow satelite on the right side of the page, which shows your downloads. go up to the address bar here, and you'll see there is nothing after the question mark. than you paste the digits you got from the copyrighted song page, click enter, and the song should be added to your list. It doesn't work for really popular stuff, but for stuff that just got released like the new outkast it works, along with alot of other rare shit that is blocked.
-
I`d say FREDWRECK showed alot of skillz this year.
Gotta say On Onsite was my favourite beat this year.
-
One of my favorite beats of the year is "Something for yall to bounce to" on the new Warren joint. Soopafly produced it though. (Correct me if wrong)
