When listening to a song, would you rather have dope lyrics or a dope beat. Like which do you prefer?
I'd rather have a dope beat. I listen to the beat of a song more than the lyrics.
-
Lyrics... I despise people who like music for the beat... that's how we get these retarted TRL Rappers... Nelly, DMX, and so on... they bring weak lyrics, but they have good production... that catches our attention. I buy an album because of the rapper, not because Dr. Dre is producing 1 song, not because Timbaland hooked up JT Money with a nice beat... I'll be repeating the lryics, so I want something to dope... that's why I choose Snoop and Nas and so many others, because lyrically they are fun to listen to and they can turn their tongue like no other person. The beats important, but hey, its the words that count... stacey adams for example... people shit on this because of the beat, i admire it because of the lyrics, we see it differently i guess.

both , that y music is made , duh lol "
"
both mostly lyrics like my homeboy "
-
Both really, thats what makes up the pefect song, ..like most of 2pacs songs
But it also depends on my mood, if i'm in a chilling mood, or want sumthing to bump to, imma play sum music with a gud beat
Or when i'm in a sad/emotional or thinking mood kinda, imma listn to meaning ful stuff with good lyrics.
A lotta rappers dont get famous cause like bpg said, they go after the beats, many kids dont know wht real rap is, so they like Nelly and shit like dat ...
Many artists dont get the recognition because of their weak beats, but they have awsome, influencial lyrics
peace

Beat first. Lyrics have to be decent though. I can't listen to a song with a wack ass beat no matter how dope the lyrics are. I rather read a book.
-
as long as the lyrics flow to the beat then im happy.
Peace
-
lyrics and beats go hand in hand
-
it depends, like for example, when i do my homework i rather listen to suptin more lyrically advance like illmatic or liquid swords, but when im chillin i rather listen to suptin that emphasizes beats more tha lyrics, it all depends on my mood
-
lyrics....cuz anyone can spit rhyming wordz over a dope beat...tha lyrics have to mean something but on tha otherhand tha beat has to fit tha lyrics also...
-
I depends...I know peeps like Dre have made some wack MC's sound tight over one of his beats, so we be like, "This song is ill." That's even though the raps are wack. Y'all gotta admit, a tight ass beat can make you like a song if the lyrics are all that, but there are mad songs I like with tight raps and hooks.
-
'i need a dope beat, a dope beat'
dope beat + a nice flow that fits.
dope beat + wack flow -> no
wack beat + dope flow -> no
-
The rappers voice matters to me too...like the tone of it and shit...that's why i aint Eminem's biggest fan cuz his nasal high voice annoys the fuck outta me after awhile...
-
I would rather have a tight beat cuzz you can't bump lyrics in your car it would'nt sound right
-
all depends on what kinda mood im in
-
This may sound weird but whenever I listen to a song, I automatically focus on the beat. I don't just listen for the tune, I study it. I think how many different instruments they used, how they layered eveything together, and the drum programming. If I want to listen to the lyics, I really have to concentrate. The beat always takes over. I find myself doing this for almost every song I listen to. Fucked up, huh?

-
fah sho tha beat. tha beatz wha catchez yur attention when u first hear tha song. tha lyricz complete it. damn, i guess that mean cash money aint completed ONE song yet huh? wtf! lol
-
Beats are more important to me. Probably because I'm a BIG fan of music. Lyrics matter too, but if a Rapper has a tight flow, over a tight beat, but the lyrics ain't that much, I won't care.

Word. I agree 100%. Critics claim that the beats on Ras Kass's "Soul On Ice" are weak, but it doesn't matter because his lyrics make up for it. And the Bass Brothers beats on "the Slim Shady LP" are average, but Eminem's lyrics more than make up for it. peace.

hmm i gotta go with the vet this time. i mean it really depends on my mood, if i want a dope beat imma listen to a dope song with dope beat but yeah some days i want to bump so meaninful music and i listen to the lyrics.
See lyrics ain't nothin if the beat ain't crackin
thats what quik said, and its so true.
-
For me i like both but it probably goes 60% beats and 40% lyrics but it just depends on my mood.
Also i thought Stacy Adams was the shit. That track is amazing.
Laterz.

when im crunked i need a beat to bounce to but when im sober i like more lyrics i thknk

Not really. it just means your into the music. I do the same thing a lot. Rap beats are too lame and generic a lot of times. I like music where you don't need lyrics to tell the story. Nowadays, you never get it. In any genre. The last song i've heard that does that for me in a while is The Isley Brothers: Contagious.
Since rap beats don't do it for me that much, i focus more on lyrics.

I'm into beats, I love analyzing and disecting them; picking out things, trying to pick up sounds that I didn't here before etc. I love it beats.

Hey I love doin' that shit too...I always put on good quality headphones cause with them shits you can pick up a lot of the background sounds...
-
lyrics. I've had enough of Nelly & DMX to last 10 lifetimes

Yup, just sittin back and puttin them head phones on make the beat better for examination. :)

I'd be the firs to tell ya that Lyrics come before beats...
