Title: Dr. Dre's beats on Kingdom Come
Post by: Detox Iz Not Active on November 12, 2006, 10:47:42 AM
average at best, same fukkin piano keys in every track and now they are all starting to sound the same.  He needs to start co-poducin with Scott Storch or Mel Man again, not sure he has it in him to produce alone anymore.  I remember a few years back where I would get hyped for every Dre beat.  These seem like leftover beats, but why would Jay put 4 leftovers on his "comback" album

Now I haven't heard his beats on BCT, because I'm waiting to cop it on the 21st, so I will reserve SOME judgment

Lost One's: 7/10
30 something: 7/10
Trouble: 6.5/10
Minority Report: 6/10

I look at 5/10 as an F, 6/10 D, 7/10 C......

Anyway doesn't matter, the beats are boring and simplistic just like that recent Stat Quo beat. Imagine and the other two Snoop tracks are a little better  and 2/3 are samples/interplotations (coincidence?).

didn't Dre give Jay Z aropund 40 beats to choose to from?

not Dre's fault Jigga chose the ordinary ones  ;D

but lets hope he is saving the A Grade material for Detox.

I dont think we should expect a classic beat out of Dre every time we see "PRODUCED BY:" though. We're only setting ourselves up for disappointment then.

Minority Report sounds like some rehashed Dre shit...

I like Trouble.

trouble is pretty dope, but its nothing spectacular.  his beats on TBCT are better but none of them are spectacular IMO.

i'm not disappointed though, dre is dope but you can't expect him to be amazing all the time.

Just as Storch et als beats sound like they are missing that extra polish without Dre, Dre's beats need that collaboration for variety.

One mind can only think of so much.

^Yup, the Dre beats on TBCT are crazy, especially "Boss' Life" & "Imagine", "Round Here" is dope but BL & Imagine can't be topped...

I"ll agree w/ everyone else that the Dre tracks on Jay's CD are average Dre. But why are people so quick to say dude's fallen off just because everything he does isn't amazing? The shit he did on Snoop's album was crazy, that new Stat Quo track is crazy, the tracks he did on Busta's album were crazy. . .I'm willing to cut dude some slack.

Just a thought I had earlier.....this HAS to be where the rumor came from about Dre doin an entire album for Jay...it HAS to! Somebody must have got the word that Dre sent Jay 25-40 beats, regardless of the actual number...which would lead anybody with sense to think that meant that Dre was doin his whole album.

I am probably 95% sure that there are 4-5 beats better than most of these that Jay didn't chose...for whatever reason, many rappers don't like to chose the best of best beats for all of their songs.

LMMFAO....I was JUST saying the same thing....that's just a West Coast board for you. Imagine does have a better concept than Lost Ones..but even the concept isn't as amazing as some of us think.

Obviously the beats for Detox will be dope as fuck (they'll all probably be ghost/co-produced too :P). The beats we've heard recently aren't that bad, just nothing innovative or new. The problem everyone expects too much from Dre (which is partically his intent). After 20+ years, I'm surprised a producer can still put out decent beats.

when i first heard 30 something...i thought ...sounds liek something from the chronic 2001 ..... then i remembered..."the beat from the up in smoke tour...
seems like dre's either having a co-producer...or re-using samples....speaking of the intro to the up in smoke tour DVd...any1 got a link to download that beat!!!???

Yeah...that makes a LOT of sense. Most of the beats he's puttin out are intended to be album cuts and not major singles. And he's just milkin the 2003-2005 Aftermath sound to death before he changes up for Detox...while still giving hints of what Detox will sound like.

If Jay-Z really did have 35 beats Dre sent to him to listen to well Jigga man chose some wacky beats.

Or if those beats really were the best that Dre had to offer then thats sad or Dre hustled Jay-Z by sending him Bustas leftovers.

'Lost Ones' is nice though, it sounds tailor made for Jay.

The beats on Kingdom Come:

Lost Ones - simple, yet effective, you cant expect a complex beat over a subject matter like that
30 Somethin - wack, sounds like a 2001 leftover
Trouble - banger, Timbo alike, Timbo would have flipped it even better
Minority Report - best beat. Creates a crazy, movie atmosphere, a dark banger.

The beats on TBCT:
Boss Life - great fucking beat, got really overshadowed by Imagine. A real "grown up folks" beat
Imagine - no comment
Round Here - quite simple, nothing special

The beats on Big Bang:
Get You Some - crazy banger
Over Here - Storch rip off, nothing special
Cocaina - great, eastcoast beat
Goldmine - great again
Dont Get Carried Away - amazin, lil bit of orchestra sound to it
Legend Of The Fall Offs - check Lost Ones again
Plus he mixed the shit out of In The Ghetto, Been Through The Storm and Pass The Torch.

His mixing and drums are still way ahead of the game. Bump Just Blazes beats from Kingdom Come in high volume and then bump Dres. The difference is amazing.

He does need to add a lil bit more melodys to these new beats and bassline. The best beat he had done so far is Outta Control remix.

Its quite obvious Dre giving people his B beats, same thing was happening in 98 and then 2001 happened.

We also mustnt forget that its the artists that choose the beats.

If you ask me the best beats will be on 50's new LP, he always picks the best Dre joints.

A: Just is giving the samples the forefront on his records, which is why you perceived them as bad mixing...  He did do a bad job of chopping the sample from Show Me... though.

B: Oh c'mon where did you get that from?  A few people were hating, but he still had dope beats...  And you expect him to repeat this process of yours?  Think in the present, not the future.  KEEP IT REAL.

C: Ok, so say, I had a choice between In Da Club and Round Here?  I would choose Round Here?  Fuck no, these beats are probably some of the best that he gave Jay and Snoop to choose from...

D: It seems to me that 50's style totally fits Dre's current production style..  I agree with you here.

The Dre beats on kingodm come r nothin amazin, but there certainly better than a lot of other ppls beats.

His drums, like they always hav bin on dre's beats, are fantastic but the rest of the tracks are good, but not dre 2 his full potential.

Lost ones is prob the best 1 on KC, but the best dre beat that ive heard recently is probably Stat's - Get low track, bangin imo!
