Depp and Norton are better

Depp? LOL ...yea right.....Dead man walking >>>>> than any depp performance
Ed Norton's catalog is too small....i can't include him yet...
-
Depp and Norton are better
And Christian Bale...

Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson are both better actors. Sean Penn is an excellent actor, though. Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson don't get the 'artistic' respect they deserve because they're so commercially successful. Hanks' catalog of Forrest Gump, Philidelphia, and the Green Mile stand up to anything Penn has done, and Mel Gibson has shown incredible talent in almost everything he's done.
My favorite Sean Penn movie was "Sweet and Lowdown", and I also really liked "Up at the villa". Dead man Walking was good too, Mystic River, I am Sam, etc. I am sam was really good because it launched Dakota Fanning's career, she's a wonderful actress.

You could argue DeNiro ahed of Nicholson but you could also argue the other side just as easily. Nicholson is a phenominal actor. Go out and rent 5 Easy Pieces, Cuckoo's Next, Chinatown, and Last Detail. You make it seem like the guy said Tom Cruise >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marlon Brando, and it simple isn't that extreme.

lol, nicholson can be scary as fuck and fuckin funny just with his face expressions. That's why i like him better but deniro is also great so i wouldn't say one is better than the other because it's all matter of taste

I've seen them and I still think you could go either way. I never cared for Bobby D's crying Raging Bull. It felt comical, while Nicholson's crying in a comedy like Something's Gotta Give from a couple years back felt very emotional. You're taking it too far with the Bobby love making it seem like it's ridiculous to say Jack. Is Deniro better than Brando too? If you say yes then that would explain a lot.

Christopher Walken has a shitty catalogue...but doesn't mean he's a terrible actor....Nicholson plays the same dude in nearly every movie he's in
-
robert deniro. awakenings. sealed the deal
-
Nicholson plays the same dude in nearly every movie he's in
LMFAO...And Jack Nicholson > Robert De Niro > Christopher Walken.

^that's fine, that's your opinion but you're not backing up your statement with anything to support it
it just looks like you're saying jack nicholson because he goes to every laker game, elaborate more why nicholson is 'better' than deniro

LOL@these muthafuckaz...What have you guys said, other than tell me to watch movies I've already seen? I've already said, De Niro's catalogue has a lot more misses than Nicholson's...Nicholson is simply the better actor, it's my opinion...De Niro is right up there, but he's taken on way more bullshit roles...PeACe

whatever man i was trying to let you know what was up. you just look like a laker luster with no unbias.
Deniro is known to be one of the three greatest method actors in the business, and jack is known for being at TIMES a good method actor.
again if you want to restate your claim and give reason why, i'm sure you wouldn't be getting dissed as much as you are in this thread
-
DeNiro shits on almost all your favorite actors. Godfather, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Untouchables, A Bronx Tale, Casino, Heat, The Fan, Meet The Parents/Fockers... just to name a few. Nicholson is good, but he's not touching DeNiro in anyway shape or form. Sure, DeNiro may miss from time to time, but when he hits, he's amazing.
For me personally though, Denzel is my favorite actor. Glory, Malcolm X, Mo Betta Blues, Philadelphia, He Got Game, Training Day, Manchurian Candidate, Inside Man, Man Of Fire... He's always convincing and just crazy intense in his roles. Would I say he's the greatest actor of his generation, sure why not. I think he has the Resume to back it up.
Sean Penn is good, but he's nowhere near DeNiro or Washington.
Ed Norton is another great actor, but he doesn't have the resume like the people who top list do. Jonny Depp is up there for me too though.

Sock yourself in the eye. I didn't compare catalogues, I KNOW Sean Penn has a better catalogue, I just like Christian Bale as an actor more... :-*

You're an idiot, Jake, you know that? Where did I mention anything about the Lakers in here? Seriously, for one second, pop my dick out your mouth. How can someone get dissed for saying Jack is a better actor than De Niro, unless the person dissing was a complete piece of shit? You gave just as much reason for De Niro being a better actor as I did for Jack. Jack comes off as more real to me, he takes his roles so seriously, he ALWAYS becomes the character...Can't say the same for De Niro, douchebag. :-*
-
didnt read most of this thread...too many retarded replies...anyway...here's my list
vin diesel
ben affleck
meg ryan
ok i'm just fuckin around here's the real list
al pacino
edward norton
robert deniro
jack nicholson
sean penn
nicolas cage
will smith (laugh if you want...but dude always makes dope movies...)
-
de niro>>>>>nicholson. just because De Niro has taken roles that Jack wouldn't and those roles have missed, doesn't mean that De Niro's best performances such as Goodfellas, Casino, Godfather, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, and so forth don't out perform Jack's best. Don't get me wrong, Nicholson is great, but De Niro is better.
i think the better agruement would be...De Niro or Pacino.

Can I just ask how many people have actually seen the late 60s early to mid 70s Nicholson stuff? They aren't very popular among kids of our generation and I'm wondering how many people are basing their decisions by comparing Joker with Jake LaMotta.

None of them have, isn't it obvious? None of these muthafuckaz know film up in here, all they know is their "Godfathers" and "Goodfellas"...I bet the main role they all know Jack for is Joker in Batman :stupid:...PeACe

Seriously, both have their flaws.
-DeNiro has made alot of shitty movies lately
-Nicholson has played an over-the-top version of himself in a handful of movies lately
But if we take a look at their best work, there's no clear winner.

Jack's worst:
Anger Management
The Two Jakes
Wolf
Mars Attacks
Psych-out
Back Door To Hell
Now why don't u go ahead and name De niro's worst movies....

I have...They are really great...And I still say De niro is greater....he is more believable....Nicholson is an OVERRATED actor....Yea sure he's been in plenty of good movies, most of those which he uses his same acting technique ( for 3-4 decades now) ....LOL i dunno why u guys keep arguing that Nicholson is greater...

I never actually said Jack was better. I just don't like how you made it sound like he wasn't even in the league of DeNiro. Neither are very good character actors though. Method or no method they still show too much of their actual traits in their fim roles. I understand they have very distinct voives and mannerisms that are hard to change but that never stopped Brando. What I like about Penn so much is how he can become so completely different you don't even know it's him. From Fast Times, to Carlito, to Mystic River you never see the same guy. I always liked Hoffman better than Jack and DeNiro for that reason. He could play straight and shine like in Kramer vs Kramer or Graduate, but he could also switch it up altogther and shine like in Tootsie or Rain Man, or even Hook. The only thing stopping Hoffman from playing roles like Jimmy Conway is his appearance. Neither DeNiro or Jack have the ability to play Tootsie.

LMAO. Are you even reading what people are posting? I already DID name the terrible roles De Niro took on, just take a look back. The "worst" Jack Nicholson roles you named are not even comparable, all those movies you named were decent to very good...Can't say the same for the De Niro flicks I named ("Showtime", "Godsend", "Hide & Seek", etc.)...PeACe

Where did I say that Jack Nicholson has appeared in a lot of bad movies? What I said is that Nicholson has played "himself" in a handful of recent movies, that's his weak point in his career. And DeNiro's weak point is the shitty films he's been in lately. If I had to choose one, I'd go with DeNiro. I was completely blown away by his performances in Mean Streets and The King of Comedy.

Well, that's your opinion...I don't think Jack plays himself, sure certain personality traits of his are seen in the films he's featured, same goes for De Niro, but I think he's simply best at playing those zany roles, so he gets chosen for them more than anyone else. Doesn't take away from his acting ability, which in my opinion surpasses De Niro's...PeACe

i like both actors but judging by both of their standout roles deniro rules
-
^^And that's your opinion...Jack's been acting since 1957 and has been making classics 'till this very day. De Niro's been acting since 1968 and makes shitty movies nowadays (for the most part). Overall, it all comes down to a matter of opinion, and my opinion is that Jack has had the better career as an actor...PeACe
-
until the departed jack didn't have a good move either since as good as it gets and maybe about schmit, whic was around the same time deniro had his last good role in meet the parents.
and if jack has been working longer he should have more classics under his belt than deniro, who outclasses jack there
-

LMAO! What the hell are you talking about? Sometimes I wonder if you even know what you're saying. In between "As Good As It Gets" (1997) and "The Departed" Jack Nicholson made "The Pledge", which was considered an excellent film, then "About Schmidt", also considered excellent, and "Something's Gotta Give", which was a tremendous drama. The only film that could possibly be considered a miss in between "As Good As It Gets" and "The Departed" is "Anger Management", which was still a good film and actually had some pretty good reviews...Please man, stop for your own sake. ADMIT it's a matter of opinion, and quit being a stubborn fag. Also, Jack DOES have more classics than De Niro (from 1957-2006)....PeACe

the same can be said about robert deniro's movies recently . regardless of what's out now their bodies of work speak for themselves, and robert deniro wins easilly , anyone who can say they've won an oscar for participating in a godfather movie .....is the shit, anyone who's been a leading actor for martin scorsese is the shit . what is jack's best roles, i bet you deniro can match and surpass them
-
anyone who can say they've won an oscar for participating in a godfather movie .....is the shit,
^^This is what it comes down to. You don't know shit about acting. It's more of a nostalgia thing with you...You love "The Godfather" and anything associated with it, including Robert De Niro. Not so hard to figure out...PeACe
-
i love the godfather because of the acting ,lol
the three greatest method actors of all time are in it denior, brando, pacino and the greatest character actor arguably is in it robert duval
there's no preattatchment there like you with your laker obsession, doubt you'd be saying nicholson if he was a SUns fan

LOL@your list of actors...It's OBVIOUSLY a nostalgia thing, only listing actors from one generation. I've told you to read some Laker books, now it's time to take some film classes. :D
-
how is it a nostalgia thing, robert duval was named the most diverse actor in film history by gueniss book of world records not too long ago, AFI lists Brando , Pacino, and DeNiro as three of the greatest method actors of all time. to tell me i don't know shit about acting and film because i like the godfather is the new dumbest post of all time.....
-

Wow, you're not only slow, but you can't comprehend shit. Where did I say you don't know shit because you like "The Godfather"? Please point it out here, genius. I said that it's funny that you named 3 actors from the same generation as the greatest (despite the fact that they ARE great actors), right after I said it was a nostalgia thing...Do you understand yet? :)

if it was a nostalgia thing with me, i'd have to be a 59 year old man who lived through that era. instead i'm a 21 year old who is talking in grand detail about method and character acting
also you are king of fallacies here . brando pacino deniro and duval are not all from the same generation, brando is from a generation which is succeeded by duvals generation which is succeded by deniro and pacino's generation. that's one of the reasons why this film is beloved by grandpa, mom , dad, and little brother.
saying that i need to take film classes then trying to discredit my knowledge of acting and argument because i brought up the godfather is by far the dumbest thing i've ever seen on this board. that's like dissing some one for bring up reggie miller in a conversation about greatest three point shooters

What does this have to do with "superior opinions", you stupid piece of shit? I'm the one who's saying it's a matter of opinions, stop bein' an ignorant ass prejudice cocksucker and pay attention...

nik cant ever take not having superior opinions
Jbananas loves Hebrewnational cock in his mouth...
Well, that's your opinion...
Doesn't take away from his acting ability, which in my opinion surpasses De Niro's

DeNiro may have more misses, but he also takes more risks. The roles that he has taken on have been great. Dude has Casino, Goodfellas, Godfather, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull etc. all under his belt. These are films that not just "movie buffs" consider to be classic.

i grew up loving purple rain too, but i'm not sitting here trying to say prince is the goat of acting also
i barely got into the godfather when i was in highschool but even if i came out the uterus loving the movie or if i was aborted and done away with it still wouldn't take away the facts that....
marlon brando is considered one of the greatest actors of all time and many consider him the greatest actor of all time- FACT.
the Role of Vito Corleone is considered Brandos grandest roles ever-FACT
The Godfather and the Godfather Trilogy along with Citizen Kane are considered the top three movies of all time-FACT
Michael Corleone is considered one of the grandest roles of all time-FACT
Michael Corleone is considered one of Al pacino's greatest roles-FACT
Vito Corleone is considered one of Robert Deniro's best roles-FACT
Both Robert Deniro and Marlon Brando won oscars and other awards for the portrayal of Vito Corleon-FACT
Robert Duval has a thick southern accent and lisp, that most people would not know he had from watching the godfather movies, he's that good at transforming himself-FACT
how am i being nostalgic when all of this is fact?
also the godfather isn't even my favorite Deniro Role, the moment i knew Deniro was THEE shit was "awakenings"
-

You say that like it's law.
Is there no room for people like Hoffman, Steiger, Poitier, Newman, or Landau? (I'd mention Dean too but sadly his body of work was so small). And does Strasberg count?
-
well of corse you can include newman, hoffman, and dean they were all students of lee strasberg (hyman roth btw NIK)

The whole point was that Jack and De Niro are comparable when it comes to acting, and the fact that you acted otherwise made it appear nostalgic, especially due to your love for "The Godfather" and the fact that every actor you've named played in that movie...PeAcE

deniro's track record is rediculous.

I dunno about that. Sean Penn is great, but a little overrated.
-
Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson are both better actors.
BULLSHIT! i'm talking about acting not movie star....LOL @ mel gibson being better....thats cool that u mentioned hanks...but naw...thats like saying jack nicholson >>>>robert de niro
Mel Gibson is an incredible actor. Also, Jack Nicholson is a greater actor than Robert DeNiro, who in his own turn is an incredible actor. We're talking about the elite here, saying Nicholson is better than DeNiro doesn't necessarily birth that DeNiro isn't a good actor. Not many are on Nicholson's level, DeNiro is arguably on his level or above. You shouldn't just blindly reject Mel Gibson as a great 'current' actor, though.

another great scene from the great bobby deniro
http://www.youtube.com/v/6J8I9XgwfmU
I actually didn't care for his performance in that scene all that much. I didn't believe the crying. Of course it's very hard to play a tough guy that cries and I'm not saying Nicholson could have done it better but I think Marty's choice to hae him in the shadows may have been finalized when he saw that in the light it would have appeared a bit goofy. Ofcourse it's all just my opinion.
