Probably Battlecat but around this time Fred started fuckin wit and learning from Dre. His work was starting to sound more Dre like (Bones Soundtrack, etc) and Fred had 2 of the best teachers on the west to learn from in Dre and Muggs and I am sure he picked up a thing or 2 from Cat but the shit they were dropping along with Meech for Dogghouse was some classic west coast shit.

SOMEBODY TELL ME HIS BEST BEAT

Fred's catalogue is not as big or have as many hits as Battlecat but he also has not been in the game that long. But don't get it twisted he has some heat:

Legend Of Jimmy Bones
Boss Playa
Till Death Do Us Part
Gangsta Nation
Bidness
The Hardest
Space Boogie
Skirt Out
Gangsta Rap
Who Ride With Us (original and remix)

I could go all day, but he has some hits.

my thoughts exactly.  Battlecat is definitely right behind Quik and Dre as best West Coast producer of all time.  I think Fred Wreck is tight as hell too, but he seems very overrated by this forum.  Not because everyone loves his beats, because they are awesome, but does he really have that big of a body of work to be compared to Battlecat?  He seems to not be around too much, so I don't see how his name keeps coming up on the "producers of all time" threads.

BTW, to the other poster, the best Fred Wreck beat IMO is "On Onsite" by Kurupt.  That shit is crazy.

Yessir. And he did Have A Party with 50 Cent and Mobb Deep. That Gangsta Nation beat is my favorite.

Yeah that beat was cold too. You can pretty much drop all of his beats on Tha Streetz and Space Boogie on a list and you can't go wrong. I agree with what you said. Body of work and longevity wise Cat has him beat. I think Fred lately is starting to do more work with other artists other than Dogghouse and DPG. For so long he was just doing beats for them and was kind of like just a in house producer. He is doing work outside of the camp but yeah I give the edge to Cat.

hard question!! Fred Wreck had some crazy shit like "On Site" by Kurupt... but on the other side ther is "G'd Up"

Fuck it... Can't decide it... both were dope!!

DJ Battlecat was on some next level shit at that time. Cat, Dre and Quik were all on one. Dre and Quik produced some brilliant albums during that time, but it was Cat who was literally dropping anthem after anthem.

1998 WC - Just Clownin'  8)
1998 Kurupt - We Can Freak It  :o :o :o :o :o
1999 Tash - Gz is Gz  8)
1999 Eastsidaz - G'd Up  :o :o :o
2000 Lucy Pearl - All About You  8)
2000 E40 - Nah Nah  8)
2000 Mr Short Khop - Dollaz Drank and Dank  :o :o
2001 Eastsidaz - I Luv It  :o :o :o :o

I'm sure I forgot a couple, plus he had other bangers on the Eastsidaz albums that I left out. Battlecat was guaranteed to give you an anthem back then. His shit was unfuckwittable.

Y'all are right...Battlecat definitely takes it, but Fred did come with some complete heaters in that time. "On on site" is his dopest beat to me....with beats like "Let's all Roll" and "Callin out names" right behind. I don't even know if there is one single beat I like from Battlecat more than "On on site"...but Battlecat did sooo many other songs that were nearly as dope, and some were better as songs. Juronimo basically posted the exact same beats I'd pick from Battlecat that were just dope as hell.

If you don't count Rhythmalism....I'd take Battlecat over Quik from 99-01.

Battlecat

that's the era I liked the best for production

he had such good wasted tracks on that Doggy's Angels album

Snoop shoulda never done DA and used those beats (including Fredwreck's) for other projects  :P

I know what you mean, Battlecat came with so much during that time

but then again those were also a few of Quik's prime years

throw "Classic 220" in there and it shows what a hot streak he was on

somebody needs to do a list of Battlecat, Fredwreck, and Quik production from 99-01, I'm curious about the comparisons

As far as the other jams you mentionned dollaz, drank and dank was and is one of my favorite tracks of all time and to me realy illustrates the west. Gd up= dope. ONe beat i realy liked from battlecat i never see mentionned ( maybe because the album its on ) is baby if youre ready from doggys angel...that beta is banging.

I got endless respect for Battlecat, but sometimes his beats are a hit or miss with me. Fredwreck is that dude though, his beats are on some next level shit. I loved the stuff he did on Space Boogie and some other DPG related projects. I'm going with Fred, just cuz personally I seem to feel everything he drops one way or another.
