I think Jigga sold 680k and Snoop 264K in the US, so he sold 30,000 to Jigga's 15,000 internationally, not that big of a difference but interesting...and Game sold 178k last week so he must be up over 600k by now...

American's are easily fooled by good marketing, Jay-Z has never been a great artist, but he's a great business man and they marketed him as the greatest emcee ever for so long people started believing it.

I agree....Reasonable doubt and Blueprint were dope....But I never thought he was the greatest MC ever....Even his subliminals aren't that flash........and this new album of his is completely garbage, so yeah you right he is a great businessman.....

I even thought Reasoble Doubt sucked back in the day. I remember I had this tape I had dubbed off the radio in Sept. 96', it had all this stuff like Do Or Die "Po Pimp" and some R@B cuts like "My Pony" and Aliyah's "If Your Girl Only Knew".... I remember I Jay-Z's "Can't Knock The Hustle" was on their and it was the one song on the whole tape I always had to fast forward over. Then I always thought he was just like a back-up dude for Foxxy Brown earlier in the summer when he came out with "Ain't No Nigga".
I couldn't believe it when people started calling this dude the greatest and stuff like that. It's just good marketing, they were saying it before his first record even dropped if you read old source magazines.
It's the same strategy Master P used to put No Limit on top. First he started advertising them as "The World's Number 1 Underground label". Then once they had the slightest success he began marketing them as "The World's Number 1 Rap Label".

Snoop is WAY more popular in Europe than Jay... regardless the sales. For example Snoop did a tour in France, all dates were sold out in like 2 weeks.. Snoop is an icon in Europe while not many people care about Jay that much... at least based on my country where hip hop has tons of listeners

Man, that's cause Snoop's a legend...
Jay is a icon too world wide don't get it twisted, people know who he is... he's had huge smash hits over the years. The thing is Snoop is a guy that back in the day helped shape this genre of Hip Hop, feel me? Jay is an incredible emcees, Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime Vol 1, Blueprint, Black Album... all great projects in my book. He just didn't make the universal impact as my boy Snoop did. Sure, cats out there are biting Jay's flow and swag, but that's the younger cats that don't know any better.
Jay will continue to grow in popularity though, don't get it twisted... What's funny to me though is that the younger kids will call Jay Z the GOAT and diss Snoop by callin' him an old washed up artist, but who is older when it comes down to it... I'm bettin' "Hov". This new generation of kids is all messed up.

its been said that jay had a $10M + marketing budget on kingdom come. shit is ridiculous. if you don't go multi-platinum after spending that much on your album, you fucked up somewhere. then again, if you have no talent...money can only take you so far ;D
