Only lasted 4 months before the newest dashboard update murdered it in fucking cold blood.
I wish this had happened a month ago when I still had the warranty on it, and now I don't have the $100 to have it repaired. Fuck.

I'm gonna call, but I don't have even a dime I can give them to pay for the repairs. So i'm hoping for a holiday miracle lol.

yea but once u explained what happened ,i mean u were just downloading the update, they should repair it for free, make sure u explain it good and everythin

It didn't happen while i was getting the update, happened a couple days after ( a couple days where my games froze up quite a bit). Apparently the same thing has happened to hundreds of people soon after they downloaded the new update.

Lawsuit: Xbox 360 update "bricking" consoles
12/8/2006 11:13:01 AM, by Nate Anderson
Microsoft is the target of a new class-action lawsuit over its Fall Update for the Xbox 360, an update that caused "problems" on a small minority of systems. By "problems," of course, we mean "total system malfunction." Now, one California man is leading the legal charge against Microsoft after his own machine was "bricked" by the update.
According to a copy of the complaint seen by Ars Technica, Kevin Ray was a happy Xbox 360 player until November 1 of this year, at which point he updated his console with the Fall 2006 Update. After installation, his system was unusable, and Microsoft has allegedly refused to repair it unless Ray pays them $140. The class action, filed in a Washington federal court, seeks more than $5 million in damages and free repair of all Xbox 360s damaged by the update.
It's hard to say if the case will go anywhere. Microsoft source "Major Nelson" acknowledged a problem with the update on November 1, and promised in a blog posting that Microsoft would take care of those who have problems. He also indicated that the issue only affected a very few console owners. The lawyers for Ray dispute this, claiming that "a Google search of the terms 'xbox 360' and 'brick' or 'bricking' shows over 15,000 results," though this hardly seems like good legal evidence of widespread problems. The lawsuit does not name anyone else affected by the update.
Nothing new under the sun
Class-action lawsuits over Xbox 360 defects are nothing new. Microsoft was hit by one on December 2, 2005, only weeks after the console had launched. That lawsuit was filed in Illinois by Chicago resident Robert Byers, who claimed that the Xbox 360 was "known to Microsoft to contain a design defect." The unit allegedly ran too hot and routinely overheated.
Just like in the current case, lawyers filed the suit without any real evidence of extensive problems. The complaint merely noted that "vast and numerous complaints posted to numerous websites, blogs and threads all served to further confirm the existence of the Design Defect in all of Microsoft's Xbox 360 Game Consoles."
In a memorandum that moved for immediate dismissal of the case, Microsoft pointed out that he plaintiff's Xbox 360 was still within its 90-day warranty period, as was every Xbox 360 sold by that date. Furthermore, they noted that the lawsuit did not even claim that Byers had experienced any problems with his unit, and the company said that Byers had never contacted Microsoft about the problem. On March 29, 2006, Byers filed for voluntary dismissal of the case.
But the new complaint does allege that the plaintiff's console malfunctioned after its update, and Microsoft has admitted to the problem, making this new case potentially more serious.

hahaha.... now maybe you can go outside and do something

Dude, I'm pretty sure they'll repair it for free or give you another one, cuz it's THEIR fuck up...
-
Dude, I'm pretty sure they'll repair it for free or give you another one, cuz it's THEIR fuck up...
exactly. They got real good customer service here in Northamerica,id imagine its the same in Italy too
have u called them yet?
-
Just called, and as I expected they were no help. Some guy from I don't even fuckin know where was "helping" me and kept saying "oohhhh this make me so depress, I would give you free repair if i could and free game too!". Yeah thats nice, give me a call when you can do that buddy, until then fuck microsoft. I'm not paying another $140 (plus shipping) to have a console I just paid $400 for 4 months ago repaired (when in all honesty I would never ever see the console I shipped to them ever again, I would get some POS refurb).
Its just ridiculous how so many people have fucking problems with this system, its almost like its by design just to make an extra $140 from each console sold. I'm gonna try to pull some kinda return scheme at a walmart or something to see if I can get a new one, if not I guess more drastic measures will be taken.
BTW, the Xbox 360 still works wonderfully as a $400 paperweight.

the update problem affected 1% of 360 owners,u were just unlucky which sucks,i still think they should repair it for free though :(

I'm sorry but you can't believe any statistics MS puts out. THey also say only 3-5% of xbox360s have had any problems. I've hardly ever heard of anyones 360 lasting more than about 6 months. Theres a thread on the xbox.com forums with 9 pages worth of people saying their xbox's were bricked after the update.
The 360 is a great system, but its made like shit (whether this is on purpose or not I don't know)

yea but 9 pages on the xbox forum compared to how many xbox 360 have been sold is still a very small percent, ive had mine since launch and havent had any problems with it , it does suck alot that they wont repair it for free, what did they say when u told them what happened?
-
Well first of all i'm not blaming the update as much for the 360 fucking up as much as i'm blaming the fact that its still just as defective as it was at launch. They basically said theres nothign they can do unless I pay them, which I will not do. If it had actually lasted as long as a $400 system should have, I would have no problem paying for repairs. They just really need to figure out how to correct whatever is wrong with the 360 because its really a faulty system.

yea thats bullshit they wont reapair it for free,so what are u gonna do now? just go without a 360? there might be some places locally that can fix it for cheaper, where abouts do u live , i always thought u were from italy for some reason lol,are u at least italian?
-
Nope not italian lol
All I can think of is taking it to walmart and saying it was a gift or something and hopefully get a new one. If that doesn't wok all I can do is hope the BBB can get something done (i've heard of people going to the BBB and getting theirs fixed for free, along with a free game lol). And if THAT doesn't work I guess i'm screwed.
Thank god my Dreamcast is still going strong.
-
yea try walmart,if u complain enough they will usually let u exchange it haha and yea the dreamcast was a dope system 8)
-
^^I think he's pretty familiar with Wal-Mart's policy. ;D
-
Yeah I made a thread a while back about my 360 going kaput. Not sure if it was attributed to an update or not, it just quit working. I had bought my 360 from Wal-Mart and went and exchanged it no problem. But I had my receipt.

Yeah I don't think it was the update that messed mine up, I just think the system is made poorly. I bought mine at walmart but taking my receipt would make it less likely that I could get a new one than just going i nthere saying i got it recently as a present lol.

When did you get it? Walmart is usually pretty good about exchanging straight up. Now a refund would be difficult. You can also try going to another wal-mart and if it doesn't work, try another technique at another wal-mart and so on.

This past August, so their 15 day returns on computer systems is long gone.
