with the exception of my farewell post this is my last thread. it makes sense to end it with one final post about dr. dre, the greatest producer in the history of rap. i will discuss the reasons why dre is the greatest. i will discuss why dre is one of the biggest innovators in the history or music. and to start i will rebut the reasons people use to deny dre of his greatness. this is a very long post but personally the most important one i have done. and no i am not a writer, but i would probably give it a shot if my music career ever dies down. up until 1999 dre had responded to critics, haters, doubters, etc. through his songs, magazines and other media outlets. before “2001” came out the hate letters, the disrespect and the doubt on the street about dre was tearing him up inside, keeping him up at night. soon it became an obsession of dre to shut them up. he used his anger and hurt as motivation to create “2001”. Dre told us many times that he was gonna use “2001” as a middle finger to say fuck you to his haters and everyone who said he couldn’t do it anymore. right before 2001’s release dre said it was his shut the fuck up album. after that he wasn’t going to respond to the lies and false bullshit out there. the only people he would listen to or address would be his loved ones, his family and the Aftermath family. dre said nothing else matters except for his “circle”. he classified the people who were hating or spreading lies as jeolous, desperate people who wanted to get attention in the worst way. he felt if he responded it would only give them what they wanted. the music would speak for dre not his words. he wouldn’t respond to the sad and ridiculous rumours
because any response may give those lies credence. so “2001” was the turning point for dre where the lives and
words of the jeolous faggots didn’t matter anymore. he wanted us to follow his lead, but as you know from reading a few of my posts i have a hard time keeping quiet when it came to defending dre. but he is my dogg for life so i will defend him whenever lies and disrespect are brought up. and before i leave i must address a couple of things a lot of people say about dre to discredit his career and talent. some people are so jealous they will say anything to bring someone down. and some people are so unknowledgable and ignorant when it comes to music. a lot of the lies and criticism come from people who have never even seen a recording studio, let alone produce a record. and 99 % of the lies and criticism come from people who have never even met dre, let alone seen him work. the biggest lie and rumour about dre is that he puts his name on stuff he didn’t actually do. those lies and accusations used to bother dre a lot. even now underneath they probably still do. it hurt so much because some of those accusations came from people whom he considered friends. those people stabbed him in the back by throwing out disses, lies and personal attacks. and they told lies they knew for a fact weren’t true. they were cowardly words and actions.
those words came from people like suge, daz, j-flexx and unforunatley 2 pac. pac’s comments really hurt dre. pac knew that the reason dre wasn’t producing much was because the dr studios were so violent and unbusinesslike dre built his own recording studio at home to stay away. and pac knew the reason dre skipped snoops trial was because dre had death threats against him. dre respected pac so much that even with all the terrible things pac was saying about dre, dre refused to dis pac back. he blamed pac’s words on suge and pac’s inability to stand up to suge. (but that also applied to cats like j-flexx and daz. they couldn’t disobey suge cause they would have been slapped. literally. j-flexx got himself together and is now making a real positive impact way away from la. daz unfortulatly kept lying about dre and thats the reason he will never work with dre again. dre wont dis daz, but he won’t forget). pac wasn’t the sometimes cowardly and sometimes evil charater he was on death row. pac had a heart of gold and was a soldier. he wasn’t the person he became on death row. unfortunatly by the time Pac realized what he was becoming and how badly he was being ripped off it was too late. RIP pac. dre believes in his heart that he would be working with pac TODAY if he hadn’t got murdered and was able to leave death row. but as we know pac never
got a chance to leave as he was excecuted on death row before he got a pardon. as far as suge goes dre just shakes
his head. when dre and suge first started out suge was a college educated non-thug who had the right idea and his
heart in the right place. however, suge quickly turned into a monster and became a very evil person. i’m sure deep inside dre hates suge but he never ever says anything bad about him, never. i have a lot of things i want to say about suge, but i won’t. someday suge will pay dearly for what he has done to people. nobody, not even the untouchable suge knight can outrun fate and karma. they will come back and haunt you no matter how much you try to outrun them, they will catch you. its only a matter of time. anyway Dre has never put his name on something he didn’t do. if dre takes someone else’s produced song and just adds/subtracts minimal things and mixes it he only takes credit as mixer. for example the doggpound doggfood album was produced by daz and mixed by dre. if it was true dre gave himself credit for things he didn’t do he would have given himself co producer credits with daz. if someone else produces and dre adds additional productions with effects and instrumental parts he only gives himself co-producer credit. the other producer always gets the credit. an example is the new mahogany track. a lot of times dre and a producer put in equal work so dre makes sure they both get credited as co-producer. an example would be mel-man. if dre was strictly a executive producer or musical supervisor on a project that was the only
credit he got. an example is above the rim. if it was true he put his name on things he didn’t do he would have given himself a lot more production credits on above the rim. dre only gives himself publishing credits if he was a producer or musician. his ghost writers get full publishing royalties from every track that dre uses their lyrics. in reality dre gives up musician and engineering credit on most tracks. dre basically composes all the instrument parts and makes all the engineering decisions. however, the musicians and engineers correctly get credit as they do the actual parts that get recorded. once in a while dre gives himself musician credit but not very often. on every aftermath track dre makes sure that every member of the team who put in on the track always gets listed in the booklet/cd inserts. dre gives you his word that he only gets credit for what he actually does. and anyone who has ever worked with dre or watched him work will back me and dre up. even the ones who publically discredit him. to those of you who believe the lies need to check yourself. you weren’t there. you haven’t talked to people who were and you never will be there. you don’t know anything about what went on or goes down. you have no clue
what you are talking about so dont guess or judge things you did not witness. the last lie that i will address is the dre is gay lie. YOU’RE a faggot if you believe that. not only has dre gotten more pussy that most of us will in 10 lifetimes, he has many kids with a couple of different women (whom dre takes full financial and personal responsibilty for). once again the people who started the lies about dre sexuality know he is not gay. and its funny that the people starting those rumors were the ones who were the object of certain prison activities, if you know what i mean. please refain from responding til the rest of my comments are done. thanks.

before i move on i want to give you a little insight into dre’s thinking these days. a few weeks ago a few of us were complaining that a big hollywood magazine entertainment weekly had dropped dre off of its 100 most powerful people in hollywood after ranking him 19 last year (the highest black
man on the list). even though dre’s power has grown even bigger this last year they dropped him off the list. dre heard us complain about it and he told us to give it up. going from memory as best as i can dre said “don’t worry about these people. there are 250 million people in this country and 99% of them could care less about me. and most of those people don’t even know who i am. and a lot of the other 1 percent hate on me or try to discredit my work. i probably have only a million or so people who are die hard fans. i don’t care who you are in life your gonna face criticism, jeolousy, hate, all that shit. and no matter what you do or say you can’t change most people’s opinions. so why bother? i love my true fans much more than they will ever know. i owe it to them to give them 150% on every album. they spend hard earned money supporting me so i will never rush or throw some mediocre shit out there. but i don’t make music for them. i make music for me. and as long as the people i love and care about know the truth i don’t care about the lies out there. and if the people i love, love me back, not for my music, but for the man i am, that’s all i need in life. music is just the thing i love to do more than anything else. but its just music. in the end my loved ones are the only people that truly matter to me. so quit worrying about the haters. fuck em. they don’t matter to me therefore they do not exist. i am living a dream life that very few people in life get a chance to live. if i died tommorrow i would have no complaints. ” those words
really hit home. this was shortly after september 11th and i think that day changed dre’s outlook on life even more. and i hope it’s changed mine too. i know that in the back of dre’s mind the doubters, critics and haters are probably always gonna be there. he can hear those voices and i know it serves as motivation for dre to keep getting better and work harder than he ever has before. last week dre dropped a verse on a track that i hope shows up somewhere. it matches
dre’s current state of mind. the verse was “haters can’t stop me, can’t see me, can’t be me. haters keep runnin they lip, but never say shit. i don’t care about dem cowards one goddamn bit, cause the louder they talk the louder I hit, jealous punks try to get me riled up when they lie and they dis, but i’ll never respond to em cause to me them punk
motherfuckers don’t even exist”. amen to that.
in life you are either a follower or a leader. most people are followers. only a select few are leaders. why is that? one reason is because it is much easier to be a follower. as a follower you are allowed to become satisfied. once you get to a certain point in life you become content and satisfied. it also allows you to live a quiet and simple life, which there is certainly nothing wrong in wanting that type of life. but its easy to be a follower. you just go with the flow and be like everyone else. followers go along with what is popular because everyone else is doing it. most people want to be liked, therefore they do whatever they can to avoid being criticized or ridiculed. there is no risk in being a follower.
but to be a leader, that is a different story. to be a leader you must have a lot of heart, courage and strength. to be a
leader you have to be willing to take enormous risks. when you take risks the chances are high that you will not be
successful. to be a leader you have to be willing to take your name, your loved ones, your words and your ideas and put them in the forefront. when you put yourself out for everyone to see all eyes are on you. leaders are willing to
put their heads out on the chopping block and go for it. and when you take those risks you must be prepared to fail. and if you fail it will be in the public eye for everyone to see. but in the end the greatest risk is not to take one. the reason leaders take risks is because there is the unlimited potential to obtain great wealth, rewards, and success. and maybe just maybe you can change the world. leaders that changed america and the world include franklin, edison, einstein, washington, lincoln, king, malcom x. just think where we would be without those inventors, scientists, presidents and civil rights leaders. leaders in the world of sports include jackie robinson, ali, jordan. leaders fail more than they succeed but when they fail they simply get back on their feet and try again. dr. dre is a leader. obviously he is not on the level of einstein and martin luther king jr, but in the world of music he is one of the more influencial and innovative figures in history. dre did not become a legend by being a follower. he did not get there by playing it safe. he did not get there by standing still and waiting for someone else to change things

dre first changed music forever when he and nwa (however, i better mention eazy duz it was actually recording before S.O.C) took ice t and schooly d’s harder edged rap and expanded it to include very explicit launguage and unprecedented depictions of life in bloody and grimy compton. nwa was bold enough to make a song titled fuck the police and encouraged people to fight back by killing brutal cops. and dre, along with cube’s lyrical direction (and easy’s money and vision of an independent label) was the main influence behind the music. dre’s production changed rap by bringing in the gritty beats and slow rolling funk. on eazy e’s album he was the first rap producer to include live drums. then dre continued to lead the way with groundbreaking production for doc, above the law, and michelle. dre’s prodcution on michelle’s album was the blueprint for what the rap/r &b fusion should and would sound like over the next decade. when the new nwa albums came close to release people wondered if dre would use prodcution like on s.o.c? fuck no. 100 miles and runnin and efil4zaggin brought another brand new sound to rap. dre was one of the first producers to include extensive live instrumentation and these two albums
brought them to the foreront. on efil4zaggin dre’s prodcution was an apocolyptic funk that include creative samples
(including “i just wanna celebrate” - my favorite dre sample ever on real niggaz don’t die) and monster guitar, bass and keyboard grooves. dre flawlessly blended funk, rock, reggae and dark sounds into a sound never really heard before. dre then took his genious to death row. would dre sit still and use the same style? fuck no. he instead created a sound called g-funk. this sound used soul/funk samples as a basis. dre then used live instruments (including the old school moog synth, g-funks trademark instrument) to replay and evolve those sounds into fresh and innovative sonic soundcapes. with nuthin but a g thang leading the way the chronic is in my opinion the single most influencial album of the 90’s. a lot of people believe it was nirvana’s nevermind but grunge eventually slowed way down for a minute while dre’s style of gangsta rap is still going strong a decade later. dre, snoop and the inmates not only changed music, they changed clothing, fashions, videos and brought black culture to the suburbs like no one before has before or since. then dre dropped classics like doggystyle and contributed monster hits on murder was the case and tupacs death row debut album. in 96 dre took his biggest gamble ever. he left death row, a 150 million dollar record label. dre left with millions, but many millions short of the 75 to 80 million that was rightfully his. dre again put his head on the chopping block and exposed himself to an incredible amount of criticism, ridule, personal attacks, lies and even very real threats on his life. dre started aftermath and after a slow start people thought dre was finally done. would dre give up? no, he took another huge gamble. he cut all of his artists and lost every producer except one. and then dre took another huge gamble. he signed a derainged yet mega talented white boy, eminem. dre’s gamble would once again pay off. then he set out to make “2001”. Would he live in the past, be lazy and try to bring back g-funk, arguably dre’s most popular sound? hell no. dre refused to follow or be content. he changed his sound yet
again. this time live instrumentation was used exclusively. dre used only 3 samples and created the rest out of thin air. the sound was a more simplistice yet deeply layered funk with clean and thunderous drums. again he took a risk and again it paid off. since then dre’s “2001”sound has been the blueprint a large number of producers have copied the last few years. now it is actually 2001 and people wonder if dre will recycle g-funk or the “2001” sound. hell no. dre’s creating yet another new r&b sound on truth hurts. he’s helping legendary rakim restore his greatest mc ever throne with hopefully some of his best beats ever. and on the upcoming DETOX will dre play it safe, be satsified with his newer pfunk / futuristic sound and be content to rest on his laurels? hell no. i have recently
done threads about dre’s plans for DETOX. since then some people have criticized or been dissapointed that dre would be going farther and farther way from g-funk. these people should sit back and really think if dre had kept g funk(which is probably MY favorite dre style -but saying that i hope he never uses it again) going how recycled, and maybe even desperate it would sound? the reason dre is a leader and innovator is because he will never live in the past, play it safe or allow people to catch up. once people start to copy a new dre style dre will reinvent himself. most people are content to play it safe and get lazy. dre will never be content. dre knows the music world is not prepared for what he is about to do. dre knows that by completely changing his sound that he will open himself up to criticism, a possible loss of fans or even set himself up for a huge failure. but dre is not afraid of anything. he wasn’t afraid to sue napster. he wasn’t afraid to be the first celebrity to donate 1 million dollars to the relief efforts for september 11th. and he is not afraid to take the risk that lies ahead. Dre’s vision for detox may be his most
incomprehensible, most impossible, most challenging and most scrutuined risk of his musical career. dre may be afraid but he’s going for it anyway. i hope that all of you will give it a chance. when you think of the sound of detox take the apocolyptic funk of efil4zaggin and multiply it times 10. DETOX’s 5.1 sound mix of sounds, styles, instruments, computers, live bands, choirs and orchestras will literally blow your mind while at the same time it blows you out the back of your car or out of the walls where you live. on detox dre will deliver a sonic atomic bomb that will resonate forever and will stand as dre’s most legendary accomplishment ever. Dre is what he is because he is an inventor, innovator and leader. dre lives and dies for this phrase - “the best way to predict the future is to create it”. thats what innovation, dreams, creativity, imagaination, belief and leadership can do.

now to wrap it up i will give you my arguement why dre is without a doubt the greatest producer in rap history. i know that dre is not the favorite of everybody. i know a lot of people hate or dislike dre. i know that many of you do not think that dre is the greatest ever. but you don’t have
to like him or have him as your favorite to give in to the fact that dre is the greatest. in the history of rap there have been many incredible and legendary producers from rick rubin, the bomb squad, pete rock, dj premier, rza, timbaland and quik. and there are many to come. young cats like alchemist, fred wreck and mel-man are next in line. but dre will always stand alone by himself. and every rap producer knows it. it is a fact that people like quik, puffy and timbaland have publically
stated that dre is the best. what evidence do i have that dre is the greatest? the evidence must be looked at in many parts and attributes. no one outworks dre. no one has the focus he has. no one has the ears he has. no one has been nearly as consistent as dre. for 15 years dre has consistently produced incredible tracks and classic beats. dre’s catologue and legacy of music stand as the ultimate evidence. all you have to do is listen. no one has the instincts dre has. no one has taken bigger risks than dre. whenever dre made a big decision it was always the right one. dre’s knowledge of instruments, equipment and history is as good as any producer who has ever lived. dre is the most innovative and revolutionary producer in rap history. his innovative sounds have changed music many times. legendary producers like quik and premo have perfected their one unique sound. but neither of those producers have come close to succeeding in a different sound.
they haven’t even attempted it. i love both quik and premo greatly. this is no knock on them. its just another reason dre stands one level above these guys and everyone else. no producer has had a more trendsetting, musical, social, revolutionary and creative impact on music than dre. i
compare dre to jordan. their careers have run the same course and they are both the best ever in their own respective areas. however, unlike sports there is no age that is to old to be a producer. and age usually only makes a record producer better. dre has the uncanny ability to sense when everyone else is catching up, therefore he picks the perfect time to innovate and create a brand new sound for everyone to follow. dre also has the great ability of discovered unpolished diamonds and developing them into superstars. dre can make even the worst rapper sound dope. no one else has that ability. when you combine all this
evidence together there is no doubt. and when legends like quincy jones, jimmy iovine, paul mccartney and others back dre as the best producer in rap history you better listen. in the end the true test lies within the music. when you take away all the opinions and discussions the music must speak for itself. and i will put dre’s 20 year catologue up against anyone’s in the history of music. there are three types of truths. there is what you want to be true, what you don’t want to be true, and the actual truth. and the actual truth is that DR. DRE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREATEST PRODUCER IN RAP HISTORY. the only question is, where does dre fall in line with the greatest producers in music history. most unbiased (or non racist or anti rap) people put him in the top 10. to me he is among the 5 best. quincy jones, sam cook, phil spector, sam phillips and dre. dre isn’t any better than those 4, but none of those 4 are any better than dre. if you never take any other words away from my stay on this board take these “WHEN IT COMES TO RAP PRODUCTION DR. DRE WILL FOREVER BE THE BEST THERE EVER WAS AND THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry, thats not true Jake. BML came out a few months before the chronic, and ATL had already been fuckin with the more advanced g-funk formula on the Vocally Pimpin EP in 1991.
and Dre never did anything in the way of G-Funk until at least 1990, 2 years after Hutch and ATL signed to Ruthless.
This is a never-ending argument so im not taking sides, but those are all facts and you can flip em both ways.
the last word is Dre is the greatest, and ATL never get the credit they deserved.

and theres an NWA mtv interview from 89' (i beleive) where they ask eazy "straight outta compton is flying off the shelves along with your solo album, what's up with the next NWA album?" and eazy says it's going to be huge and dre's all it's going to be funky but gangsta (funky gangster muic ...g-funk?)
1990 came along and wow doc's album and tidbits of g-funk and hutch had nothing to do with it, 100 miles and runnin was a touch of g-funk and yella and dre produced tha one, than livin like hustlers came out with both dre and hutch productions on it , and that's when hutch started getting production tips from dre with this whole g-funk shit, then dre produces efil4zaggin which is basically the same ass 100 miles and runnin style, then dre gets off ruthless and starts deathrow with suge and starts on the chronic....hutch started on BML after dre started on the chronic....hutch in no way started g-funk when dre was already starting it basically on SOC and TOTL for christ's sakes

Dre had his G-Funk sound sproutin up in "Straight Outta Compon" for Christ's sake. Well, actually it began with "Efil4zaggin" but D-R-E made the sound.

If anyone owns the Vocally Pimpin EP youll see a track called BML Commercial, an intro to the upcoming black mafia life album that ATL had already started work on in 1991, when Dre was still in his last days at Ruthless (ie befoe the chronic sessions began).
oh yea, for some more extremely early G-Funk check out Kokanes first album Addictive Hip Hop Muzick produced by Hutch.
by the way, im not saying Dre didnt invent g-funk, or that Hutch did, but my point is it was not down to one person. it was a collective of producers and musicians who came up with it. Dre obviously did it the best and would have the most success from it, but he didnt just invent a whole sound on his own. im sure none of you will bother considering this notion.

pleeeeease i have those albums, they contain funk melodies like EPMD had done....dre's not the first to incorperate funk into hip hop...but the g-funk soundscape YES they were coined by dre...god even dre's closest assosiates and other musicians have said this
theres a difference between g-funk and incorperating funk
2 exaples: listen to a certain song on doggystyle then listen to another song on death certificate......they both sampe Atomic dog but only one is g-funk....kokane's album was just an old fashioned funk styled album NOT a g-funk album and like i said dre's been fucking around with g-funk before hutch was even on Ruthless
