Title: Fergie should be considered West Coast?
Post by: proverbs aka DD on December 11, 2006, 05:40:15 PM
Do you think Fergie should be considered West Coast rap?

I mean she is from Cali, grew up in cali and lives in cali.. infact most of them black eyed peas are from here.. But rarely do they come up in a west coast conversation..

If you look at her from a sales perspective.. she isn't doing so bad and she is getting some radio play..

thank you for taking my question 100% literally..

but for the others... i meant the question in a rhethorical sense. We never speak on her, even though she has push the most units this year for a West Coast artist. She has sold 750,000 and by tommorrow's numbers she'll be close to 900,000. Which is pretty good for a west coast artist, let alone a FEMALE west coast rapper..

Some dude said she is a west coast pop star.. That's what i was wondering.. Because her music is very similar to Missy elliot.. so do we consider missy to be pop too?

OH. So using your logic. Jessica Simpson lives in California, so shes west coast rap too. Jesus christ. Fergie is not a rap artist. So therefore, she is not a westcoast RAP artist.

Exactly. Can we talk about every artists regardless of genre being a West Coast rapper, just because they're from California? No. Case closed.

The difference between BEP and Fergie by herself, is that collectivly BEP is a hip hop group, there for they are West Coast. Fergie is a pop singer who tries shamlessly to make "music".

She's 40 something  :o I recently read in the papers, damn that's old for her looks. Plus that pic with the jeans and white shirt and hat is it me or is there a wet patch in her dick area (Yeah you heard me, she's a man, don't deal with it) If it ain't hip hop/rap and from the westcoast it's not important enough, Fergie is far from any good. BEP = Not enough...Pop for kids if you will.

wikipedia says she's 31 years old.

the last 3 songs i've heard from her she has been rapping. So i considered her a rapper/singer. I don't own her album so i don't know if she sings on the rest.. But her music is identical to Missy Elliot and JJ Fad. Infact her current single "Fergielicious" has very similar flow to JJ Fad's "Supersonic".  Her current album is executive produced by Will.I.Am who also handles most of the production.

For the guy who mentioned Jessica Simpson.. I guess you can make that argument if Jessica Simpson actually rapped on her album. I havent heard any tracks from her that has her rapping.. So maybe you can enlighten us.

In my opinion, i don't see anything different between D4L, Missy Elliot and Fergie. They are not on the level of 2pac, Biggie, Common, Nas or even 50 in their lyrical content, however they all rap and harmonize in their music..

I think this is a good discussion. Keep it going :)

its hard to ignore her when both of her songs are in heavy rotation on BOTH hip hop stations in Houston.. They are higher in rotation than the Game's singles..

Someone asked about her age and i went to wikipedia.. its not hard when you have high speed internet homie.. i suggest you get it. :)

Nigga get to know i'm on broadband, yes i did ask for her age, not her life story though >_>. True you can't ignore her, she's probably big where you from and all, but I still ain't feeling her vibes. Meh that's just my opinion. She might get higher rotation, but these days down here stupid ass groups always get more bumpin' then what i'm into. She could be considered from the west, but I ain't feeling her raps or anything.

If fernie is from the West then we definitely must define what "being from the west" mean

Does that mean someone that's "coming from THE WESTCOAST part of the K.K.K" or does that mean she can be compared/associated to Dre,Snoop  as far as sells or impact are concerned"

if you ask me she's NOT "the 2nd proposition"..not "westcoast" in that way....nope i'm affraid not
