10 Players Ejected From Knicks-Nuggets Game (http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/43775/20061216/10_players_ejected_from_knicks_nuggets_game/)

In the worst episode of violence since the infamous game in Detroit a few years ago, the referees decided to eject every player who was on the court when an incident broke out at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
Knicks guard Mardy Collins fouled Nugget guard J.R. Smith hard on a fast break attempt in the final minutes of a blowout Denver win, causing Smith to jump up and confront Collins. Nate Robinson came in to support his teammate, pushing Smith who took exception to the shove. Robinson and Smith then wrestled into reporters sitting courtside as players from both teams ran in to stick up for their teammates.
Just as things started to settle down, Collins said something to Carmello Anthony who punched Collins in the face, causing Collins to hit the floor. Episodes then followed, with new Knick Jared Jeffries fighting through teammates and team officials to try to get at Anthony.
After the referees and coaches conversed, an announcement was made that every player who was on the court at the time of the incident had been ejected, with the Nuggets leaving the court first. Once they were back in their dressing room, the Knicks followed suit.
It is unknown if players from either team left their respective benches at the time of the incident, with Knick broadcasters saying that Jamal Crawford and Stephon Marbury definitely remained on the sidelines.
It's bound to be a busy next few days for Stu Jackson and the others at the NBA offices.
Crazy shit!...I'll get the video up ASAP.

Just saw the highlights. Nate Robinson is a bitch. The refs didn't even get a chance to break up the fight between Collins & Smith cuz he kept jumping in pushing J.R.
LMAO @ Carmello socking Mardy Collins then running from Jared Jeffries.
The Knicks are fuckin pathetic. Although, I understand what they were saying. J.R. Smith was a lil too dunk happy while already sitting on a 20 point lead.

WTF?! How is Nate Robinson a bitch wtf? he is the shortest player in the league and pretty much took down Jr Smith, ur trippin man Nate wasnt a bitch in that brawl.

I've seen harder fouls that didn't result in shit like this. Why were all those starters on the floor for Denver in the first place? Under 2 mins left and a 20 point lead??? That's what should REALLY be looked at. U don't try and showboat against a team that's getting spanked at home and expect to not get some retaliation. Old school rules apply here. Melo as a so-called "superstar" should have tried to play peacemaker instead of trying to thug it up...which consequently led to him looking like a little pussy after his love-tap / girl-slap to dudes cheek and his sprint backwards to his bench. :catfight:

You got two points here, man. About Melo acting immature and about the Nuggets playing with too many starters like the game was still interesting. But that doesn't justify the fight. It just frustrated Knicks players to the point they lost control (the foul is a clear foul of frustation, so is the reaction of Nate). But yeah, Denver should have let the bench players finish the game without embarassing them. And if Melo was on the floor just to get more points... that's not right. I know Kobe did it vs Toronto, but Lakers were loosing that game, teammates were playing horrible and he had to stay on the court to score and to win the game himself. Plus he already was benched against the Mavs, and he was going for history, which wasn't the case of Melo's game. I love Melo tho, don't get me wrong. But i didn't like those two things, that's all.
-
Yea.. I'm starting to like Melo a bit more than I used to.... but he hurt his all-star chances with this shit. George Karl kept his starters in..and now he's gonna pay for it with some suspensions. Dumb move.
-
This wont affect Melo being an all star, he will be suspended obviousley but he will also play in the all star game this year.
-
I wish Isiah woulda got punched.
-
I don't see why you call Melo a bitch, he hit somebody and then didnt need 5 niggas jumpin on him, quite understandable, it's called hit and run that's just how shit goes. But I guess everybody in here is so hard that he takes a broken nose or jaw, destroyed theeth and stuff like that with pleasure.
Nate simply thought nobody would seriously hurt him anyway because he's a short dude, don't see what's so cool about that.

if you hit someone, stick around and let them confront you about it. if you cant take the consequences dont do it. also LOL at melo pointin at nuggets sayin 'ill see you after' when they were all walkin to their lockerrooms.

Personally I said he didn't act mature, which is a different thing. He was supposed to be the leader of his team, but he acted like a bitch with Camby who saved his nose by tackling Jeffries. He was supposed to act like a peacemaker, but he had his teammates defending him. Not really "gangsta", if you ask me.
-
^^I agree.
-
lol Melo's rediculous
-
melo's a fuckin bitch, he shoulda known it was over the second he threw the punch and finished the fight
-
It's just an example, but watch Kobe here.
http://www.youtube.com/v/Mia3hfXqttE
1) He passes the ball to Bynum - the young rookie guy who just got posterized and who's risking to be remembered forever for that dunk - so that he can get some confidence and he can get the message "c'mon boy, i still trust you!". This way a disaster turns into a revenge.
2) He puts himself between Shaq and Bynum staying close to Shaq to "watch" him and he's like saying "C'mon, man! He's a kid"
3) he goes to Bynum hitting him in the heat with the hand, you know, like "c'mon, great dunk, now sit in the bench and relax"
A perfect example of how to act mature and as a leader.
Then watch Melo and you'll understand what i'm talking about.
And no, it's not a Kobe vs Melo thing, i love Melo too. It's just that, being a Laker fan, i have more example about my fav team.
-
^^LOL...Imagine what BSPN and the media would be saying if it were Kobe who threw the punch. :-X
-
LOL at Shaq getting all emotional.

well, of course, lack of sportsmanship it is..
LMFAO@dude throwing that shit on Nate, LOL!!

Thank God i live in Italy and i don't have to suffer like you. ;)

I could just imagine the headlines:
"Kobe... First rape, now attempted murder!?"

I'm not calling him a bitch for what he did in the fight, I'm calling him a bitch for escalading the fight. I think the refs could've controlled the situation if it wasn't for him jumping in and trying to make it bigger than what it should'v been.

Statement from Carmelo Anthony (http://www.nba.com/nuggets/news/anthony_statement_061217.html)
Dec. 17 -- "Last night's altercation with the Knicks escalated further than it should have. I take full responsibility for my actions in the matter. In the heat of the moment I let my emotions get the best of me. I apologize to the fans, the Denver Nuggets, the NBA, my mother, and my family for the embarrassment I have caused them. I ask you all for your forgiveness.
I also want to make a personal apology to Mardy Collins and his family. My actions were inexcusable, and I am sorry for making this an even more embarrassing situation.
What makes this all the more painful is that this was one of the most important weeks of my life. I just realized one of my biggest dreams when we opened the Youth Center in Baltimore that bares my name. To see the community excited and hundreds of kids smiling was an incredible feeling. Now the thought of thousands of kids seeing this incident on TV pains me. This is not the example I want to set.
It's my hope that we work to move forward from this event, and never let something like this happen again."

man i never got to see it!! Youtube doesnt work..

So imposing dress codes don't make players behave? Who knew?

Why does Melo have to be gangsta in the first place? He's a basketball player.

I never said he should have acted like a gangsta. I said the opposite: i said he should have acted like a peacemaker.

exactly. that fight was easily avoidable, except nate ran in, pushed smith, and pretty much instigated the entire situation. he's an even bigger fag than carmelo for that.

By BRIAN MAHONEY, AP Basketball Writer
December 18, 2006
NEW YORK (AP) -- NBA scoring leader Carmelo Anthony was suspended for 15 games Monday and six other players were penalized as commissioner David Stern came down hard on both teams after the Nuggets and Knicks brawled at Madison Square Garden.
Nate Robinson and J.R. Smith each got 10 games, and four other players also were suspended. Stern fined each organization $500,000. But there was no separate penalty for Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, who had warned Anthony not to go into the lane before the mayhem started Saturday night.
"The NBA and its players represent a game of extraordinary skill, athleticism and grace, and, for good or bad, set an example for the entire basketball world, on and off the court," Stern said in a statement.
Mardy Collins, whose hard foul on Smith sparked the fighting, was suspended six games and Knicks teammate Jared Jeffries will miss four. Also, the Knicks' Jerome James and Denver's Nene were both penalized one game for leaving the bench area during the chaos.
Ten players were ejected after the fight, which started with 1:15 left in Denver's 123-100 victory. It was the NBA's scariest scene since the brawl between Pacers players and Pistons fans in Detroit two years ago.
There was speculation Thomas would be penalized for his comments to Anthony. Stern acknowledged hearing about it, but said he relied only on "definitive information" when handing out punishments.
The punishments were announced before both teams were to play Monday night -- New York at home against Utah; Denver at home against Washington.
Stern, taking the unusual step of announcing his ruling in a conference call, said the fines to the organizations are meant to show he is serious about cleaning up the game.
"It's a more general message that I'm going to start holding our teams accountable," Stern said.
Collins prevented Smith from an easy basket by grabbing him by the neck and taking him to the floor. Smith rose and immediately started jawing with Collins, and Robinson jumped in to pull Smith away. Anthony shoved Robinson away, and Robinson and Smith then tumbled into the front row while fighting.
Just as things appeared to be calming down, Anthony threw a hard punch that floored Collins, and New York's Jared Jeffries sprinted from the baseline toward halfcourt in an effort to get at Anthony, but was tackled by a Denver player.
By the time security had finally contained Smith, they were nearly at the opposite end of the court from where the fighting started.
"I was very disappointed," Stern said. "Clearly, we're not getting through or players in certain circumstances just don't want to be restrained. I would suggest that those players will not have long careers in the NBA."
Stern also made it clear he was annoyed by comments from Thomas and the Knicks that the problems were caused by the Nuggets still having four starters on the floor late in a blowout. The commissioner said the only response is to say "nothing, or B, this is not something of which we can be proud or condone. That's not what we're about and that's not the example that we're setting."
In Denver, Nuggets coach George Karl was irate with Thomas, who said Monday that Karl put his players in danger by leaving them on the floor too long. Karl accused Thomas of a "premediated" act, underscoring his disgust with the New York coach with expletives.
"It was directed by Isiah," he said during a shootaround. "I think his actions after the game were despicable. He made a bad situation worse. I'll swear on my children's life that I never thought about running up the score. I wanted to get a big win on the road."
"My team has had trouble holding leads at the end of games," he added. "I didn't want the score to get under 10 points because if it would've gotten under 10 points it would've had a negative feeling on my team."
FUCK! And Carmelo's on my fantasy team too... :-\

even nate's teammates agree that hes annoying
But to teammates and coaches he also can be the annoying little brother who talks too much and can't control his emotions. Larry Brown tried to get Robinson sent to the Developmental League last season, only to be rebuffed by management.
Before the Knicks' home opener last month, MSG Network recorded Robinson outside the locker room posing and dancing for the cameras. Teammates tried to stop him but Robinson continued dancing. Robinson also has earned a reputation as a bench jockey who trash-talks to players on the floor. He also has been criticized by teammates for, ironically enough, showboating.
Last year, Robinson was involved in two fights with teammates. He went after Jerome James with a broom during a practice and then had to be separated from fighting Malik Rose in the shower. The shower fight prompted a veteran teammate to give Robinson another nickname.
"That's just Nate," the Knick said. "He's a jerk."
