I think EPMD used this beat on a song called I'm Housin on there first album Strictly Business.  And then it was used on a St. Ides commercial with Biggie Smalls I think.  Don't know where the original sample came from.

I read here on Dubcc some time ago (think it was 2005) something involving Marley Marl about the same discussion

They used the beat because Biggie had used it when he did that St. Ides commercial but did not make a whole song. The commercial was produced by DJ Pooh too.
