Title: Kurupt fandom
Post by: Tanjential on December 25, 2006, 03:40:38 PM
I've noticed that pretty consistently (even years ago) Kurupt, though not a commercially popular rapper, is beloved by most west coast fans. I certainly love alot of Kurupt's music, I've been hooked since his verses on chronic and doggystyle, would I be wrong in asserting that chronic and doggystyle is how most of us got into Kurupt?

I just checked the credits and it was Dr. Dre. My bad. Either way that song is in my top 5 of DPG cuts.

Daz & Kurupt, Snoop on the hook and Rage doing some crazy Jamacian type shit at the end. If I can find it I will post the track.

None of it. Daz and DJ Premier did most of the beats. Easy Mo Bee did 1 track. Dre had already left after Rage's album came out in 98.

Yeah it was a slept on album, but by the time Suge released the album, the buzz surrounding her was gone. Her mixtape last year was one of the best IMO, but I just want a new album.

She has her own label, Boss Lady Entertainment. Snoop's wife is her manager. Last I heard they were looking for a distribution deal.

"last i heard they were looking for a distribution deal"-to me this is proof that rapper boutique labels are fucking bullshit. Every rapper talks like they have a label but they literally just have a label: on their albums, there's this fuckin' logo they own. But rappers in their groping egotism have warped the definition of a lablel Back in the fucking day, when someone had a label it meant they were in the position to release not only their albums but the albums of others they chose to release. Snoop can't even get a Rage album released? what a joke.  and rage has a label? It's all about the distributor, that's a real label. Now Dre, i think he has a label....it seems to me when he wants to release someone's LP he can do it, am i wrong?

Well Snoop is notorious for pushing artists back. He puts out who he wants to put out. Rage appeared on PTCTBTB and Last Meal so the perception is that he was going to put her out along with RBX but it did not happen. Then Rage was suppose to come out on DPGRecordz with Daz but Daz said she did not get the album out before the deadline so alot of artists do indie deals/label deals really to just get the music out. You can't hate people going out and trying to get their own money and that is what it's about at the end of the day. She will probably get a deal with Koch or some other indie distributor but she needs to put out something.

RBX was signed to doggystyle but he did not put out a album. Ripp Tha Game Bloody was a RBX album that came out on Daz's label. Snoop had Dogghouse on TVT Records and he was dropping alot of groups, Eastsidaz and Doggy's Angels, but after he got a deal with MCA, the albums stopped after that Doggystyle All Stars compilation. So now he has Doggystyle on Koch and he did drop Tha Dogg Pound and Welcome To The Chucch. Daz to me runs his label better than Snoop. It is on a smaller scale but he is a hustler so he gets that product out. That is why Soopafly is putting material out through Daz.

Yeah that dropped around the same time as the Chronic, but that song made me an instant fan of Kurupt.
