Title: west coast singles that should have been big hits
Post by: everlast1986 on December 26, 2006, 07:47:13 PM
What are some singles from west coast artists that have come out in the last few years that should have been bigger hits than they were.

A few that come to my mind are

Warren G Ft. Nate Dogg - I Need A Light
Xzibit - Criminal Set
DPG - Real Soon
Mack 10 - The Testimony
Cypress Hill Ft. Tego Calderon - Latin Thugs
DPG - Cali Iz Active
Knoc'Turnal - The Way I Am
Sly Boogy - Thats My Name
Lil Rob - Summer Nights

Knoc-turn'al--the way I am--Elektra FUCKED up with that 1 BAD. cus knoc had a hit with that 1 man. banging ass scott storch beat, guest appearance from 1 of the most respected rappers in the game, and a very radio friendly hook. SAD.

Agree with Mack 10's the testimony. dope ass track

Warren G I Need a light is pretty dope as well.

same with sly boogy's thats my name.

Knoc Turn Al (ft. Snoop Dogg) - The Way I Am

DPG - Real Soon
DPG - Cali Iz Active
Lil Rob - Summer Nights

These are the ones i liked from ur list.... summer nights i guess was a smash hit considering it was from a chicano rap artist and was probably the biggest chicano rap song i can remember.

cali iz active was probably the best dpg or snoop song i had heard in years.... real soon was ok.

The Game - "Put You On the Game"

I'd agree with that, it had a decent video shot, and that beat was bananas. My favourite Game track to date.

My pick though would be; Crooked I - Boom Boom Clap, it had everything to be a massive hit.

Yeah Boom Boom Clap had hit written all over it. I do not think he should have dropped it until a album came out after it, but I guess his label situation did not allow it. I remember seeing it on Rap City a couple of times but that was it. So Damn Hood is another track like this one that should have made Crook a household name.

He only dropped it to keep a buzz, and intended to use it as a mixtape track, .. but it got good reviews and they didn't know how to handle it.. again, great work from Treacherous. It would of been the perfect single for his debut album.

Still D.R.E. never did big numbers on the charts, I always thought it should've blown up bigger, at least numbers wise.

I never understood why that song didn't blow up. It seems like everybody liked it.

E40 - Nah Nah Nah

I'll contribute that to people not feeling 40.

A lot of the tracks mentioned were pretty big hits, at least in California, like everyone knew Sly Boogy "That's My Name" and Knoc's "The Way I Am".  Same goes for Lil Rob Summer Nights, and Smooth Sailin.  I think the problem is that the single did nothing for the sales of the album (or that there was no album, in the case of Sly Boogy.)

yeah summer nights was like THE song of summer 2005 on power 106/kday and all that. but i guess i dont know how well it went on the nationwide scale. All I remember are Summer nights and So Sick - Ne Yo being played that summer. and T Pain.
