Stephen King called it the best film of the year and described it as "the best fantasy film since The Wizard of Oz. And while it's much darker than Wizard, it still celebrates the human spirit."

Spoiler...somewhat...
"The tyrant's reign ends with his death and the martyr's reign begins with his death", doesn't this quote fit the ending perfectly?
-
^yea i guess it does, who is it quoted from?

It's from Søren Kierkegaard. Del Toro paraphrases his quote in an interview, the exact quote is "The tyrant dies and his rule is over, the martyr dies and his rule begins"

Del Toro actually hates the Lord of the Rings type of fantasy ;) If you can compare it to a fairy tale it's more like the Brothers Grimm type of stories. I think the fantasy is perfectly mixed with the reality of the 1944 Spain, so you can have that to look forward to lol. Oh yeah, and it has one of the best villians I've seen in a long time.

I finally saw it today...and i loved it!
-
is this in spanish? i want to take my nephew to the movies in a little bit and i doubt he wants to read subtitles

Saw this yesterday and loved every minute. Beautifully filmed, captivating, brutal at parts, actually pretty scary at others. Fucking great movie.
Anyone who hasn't seen it - put any prejudices about subtitles or 'fantasy' films out of your head. Watch this with an open mind and I bet you get blown away.
