As mentioned in my New Year update;
In 2007 we are looking to increase the interactivity between our readers and the site, that means more new content and new features thus giving every one of you a greater experience while on dubcnn.
We are also looking to start the year with your suggestions for what you feel we could do better, what you feel we could add or even take away and any other ideas you may have. Any ideas submitted that we do decide to act on will see a prize awarded. If you want to participate please drop your ideas in this thread or email them in to readerideas@dubcnn.com
Thanks to everyone of our readers!

well since you guys get all of these people in the industry on dubcnn, how about a dubcnn mixtape? i think it'd be easy to get tracks from the people you interview. hell i could DJ them 8)

I think you guy's should seriously consider doing a monthly magazine.. that shit would be crack!!!
-
It might be an 'overdone' idea, but what about regular blogs on the site?
XXL is really good at this - the magazine has a bunch of bloggers who post pretty regularly on the site, giving their take on recent news and releases. The good thing is that they've selected people with different tastes and views, so there's a 'something for everyone' kinda thing going on.
Also, it means a site can offer views and opinions rather than simply reporting news.
-
I think a Dubcnn Online Radio Show would be a good idea.
-
I think the 'Reviews' section should be increased, Nima started off with some great ones, they were long though and I know people dont have so much time, but a short track by track review of old school classic rap albums could work well, featuring artists not EVERYONE knows about , eg. Bad N Fluenz. Cuz theres alot of classic albums from the past many people are missing out on.
-
I'd like to write some/see more articles. -T

Thats a gr8 idea! Over the last few years I hav discovered quite a few quality albums that were years old, but I'd completely missed out on them!

Well it's hard to find new ideas regarding all the rap sites around but why not make a sort of "Friday fire" like Ballerstatus.net... maybe monthly and only about WC... Overall I agree with previous posts, I would like to see more opinions articles.. The staff should make a list ( 50) of the most underrated WC records of all times , the essential WC records to own for the average fan who isn't a regular poster here..
plus each year , write about best WC albums, artists, producers, newcomers..

mc ren interview 8)

I personally think DUBCNN is fine the way it is but the DUBCNN Mixtape idea sounds good and the online radio show idea.
-
Hmm....quick brainstorm....
-Dual interviews, or interviews with two rappers askin each other questions, just to switch it up a lil. For example...interviewing Daz and Kurupt at the same time...or havin Bishop/Glasses interviewin Snoop/Cube or interactin with em. It would really depend on the artists involved to see how it goes.
-"Unsigned hype" type of section, whether it's monthly, bi-monthly, or whatever....but some highlighting a rapper or producer who is virtually unknown to the industry and most fans, and doing a short bio and a few tracks. Dubcnn has always put unknown artists up in the same fashion as they have put the established artists up, as far as the bios, interviews, and songs...but I think this would highlight the best ones, and give them something to work for.
-Each month or however often, highlight a different city or even neighborhood (for major cities) from the west coast....give their music history, name as many artists as you can from there, and anything that would let people know about the city to link them with something else. Put up different tracks from their established, as well as unestablished artists. Possibly put pictures up of different landmarks or whatever in that city. You could also mention anyone else from the city who's not a rapper/producer, and mention the high schools or anything else that the city is known for...and maybe even use quotes from the rappers. Off the top...you could list spots like Vegas, South Central, Watts, Mid City, Oakland (I don't know the different hoods there), Frisco, Sacramento, Fairfield, Vallejo, Phoenix, Seattle, Portland, I.E., Orange County (possibly), Inglewood, Long Beach, Compton, E.P.A., San Diego....and I'm sure it's more that have had some sort of influence on the rap game.
-Quotes of the month from Dubcc topics...as well as making mention of the hottest topics on the board at the time.
-As Lord Funk said, blogs...but do something to make them different....such as using quotes from the members on the board.
-Do polls for the typical questions, such as top artists, songs, and albums...and on anything else such as your favorite new west artist, the chances of the west "coming back", the state of the west coast, your favorite non-west coast rapper, etc etc
I'll prolly drop more later.
-
in order to increase fan - artist interaction, maybe u should consider live chats... i dont know how the logistics would work, but id be interested in loggin into online chats with west coast artists... peace
-
tight suggestions!!!!!

i think it would be nice to see diary's from artists, upcoming artists or established artists

thats a great idea.
-
you know what would be great if we can gamble on sports wit our
karma points or something like that.ive seen it on other forums.they gamble
on sports wit points they got.
Rud hit me up if you want me to give you the site where they have this.
i thing it would be DOPE if we had it on dubcc.
on the music tip.i think we should have like a profile of the week or something like
that where we learn more about the artist.you know shit like where were you born, where
you grew up at, what made you get into music, ect...this way we learn more about the artists.

Artists Chats
Similar to what "i B 2 QUIK 2 c" said. Occasionally different artists can have a live chat on DUBCNN with the fans. Sometimes not every question is asked in the interviews and this gives the posters a more personal interaction with the artists.
-
Hold contests and announce winners to either be the lucky ones to chat with an artist online so say like only 5 people win and get the chance to chat with Snoop....
Hold a contest and announce winners that get to talk to an artist on the telephone for like 10 mins.. to make this safe for the artist have them call the winner from a blocked phone or something.
Hold a contest and announce winners that get to interview artists themselves and then post the results of their interview on Dubcnn.
-
hold a contest and the winners get a trip to meet an artist with all paid and $3,000 prize.
-

Honestly that might be asking a bit much.. Dubcnn isn't exactly a rich website. Hence the donations thread. I doubt they could afford to pay for someone to fly down and meet an artists with a $3,000 dollar prize.
-
No more suggestions people?
-
Cohesive efforts on the part of the site managers and forum community to communicate big important ideas to hotly discussed artists, IE: "DRE PLEASE MAKE KURUPT RIP UP A 16 ON DETOX" on a fuckin' plane flying through Bev hills or some shit. I'm only half kidding, we should have debate threads where we decide on a consensus to attempt to communicate.

^^^ wow dogg.you be getting down wit the keyboard.are you some kind of writer?

I think the idea to profile a different city in the west coast is a tight idea.
you guys are already good at breaking new talent
Maybe have users compile a history of west coast rap for the site, a certain user profiles a certain time in west coast rap history.
I know a couple of basketball site are doing this now, having players take questions from users and do advice columns, like a dear abby sort of thing, get meech or bishop or some one to give advice to users (for an example, www.dimemag.com is doing this with ron artest)
-
Live chats with artists
oop albums for free or really cheap d/l
High quality music videos for d/l
maybe some sort of thing when u interview an artist and you can give the artist a page of honest opinions from dubcnn and let the artist give their reaction to those opinions
-
here is one I thought of, just kind of a blueprint of what could be...
When an artist is in the process of making an album, get them to submit small snippits of beats, hooks/choruses, samples of raps, and snippits of multiple songs. put those snippits up for d/l on the page and let people vote on them. because how many times has a song with a dope ass beat and rap been ruined by a wack hook/chorus? How many times has a dope rapper just rapper over garbage ass beats which just made the album unlistenable? How many times did a guest spot ruin a song because it was just way out of place? How many times did a song that was straight bangin, not make the final cut for whatever reason (yeah I'm talking to u snoop)
I think maybe if artists can put out these samples while in the process of making an album, and get some real feedback from honest people who are not just going to say everything is bangin, maybe albums can come out a bit better. If an artist puts up a sample of beats that he plans on using and the polls show that everyone hates them, then maybe they won't show up on the album. Or in the other case if a song like "No Bacctraccin" gets previewed and it is overwhelmingly popular, maybe it will make the album.
sometimes your friends have a hard time giving you honest feedback, and if these artists are only letting their friends/business partners hear the shit, maybe they are not always getting the right feedback to direct the album.

Yeah I think that would work. Although most rappers and producers are too conceited to admit it..they always want to know how the average fan feels about certain songs they do...and usually, it's too late when the fans are like "they fell off" and "that song sucks for them".

merge dubcnn with another popular Hiphop site like u guys did with westcoast2k ;)

Don't know if it's posted already, but anyway:
* DubCNN DVD - with interviews, behind the scenes by concerts/studio work, music, exclusive freestyles, etc.
* That Blog idea would be dope.. Maybe try getting some inside-artists to post sometimes.
* Some YouTube elements, like those interviews mentioned before

I like to think I'm some kind of writer, yes. Thanks.

don't think Quik or even Sly Boogy are gonna let the dub forum produce their album. cause all that shit you're talking about us doing? yeah, that would constitute producing. I think my earlier idea about us agreeing on a consensus and doing our best to communicate that consensus is the closest we'll have to that kind of input.
maybe some sort of thing when u interview an artist and you can give the artist a page of honest opinions from dubcnn and let the artist give their reaction to those opinions
LMAO. Imagine the look on Kurupt's face' WTF?'
I think this would be kind of extreme. Nima does his best to deliver the overwhelming and strong opinions even if they're brutal but some artists he''s known them well enough to do that with (Snoop, Daz, Bad Azz)n and with some artists his ties are tenuous to the point where he can't really do that (D.O.C.,Lamont, 50 cent).

another nice thing it would be nice to see here, i think it would be to see a following in the making of an album or a mixtape, like to know everything they record with artists or shit like that.
-
another idea that popped in mind is: i'd would to see reviews of a producer discography, track by track on every album they dropped beats.
-
What about rewarding quality posters with an opportunity to conduct an upcoming interview? Give them possibly a once in a lifetime chance to interact with their favorite artist. Plus it would drive people to be more serious / quality posters.
And I liked Grundy's idea to conduct a live chat w/ an artist.
I'll try and think of some more.

non-west artist of the month, (indie cats only)

thanks for all these so far, some great ideas, we are going to be looking over them all next week...
please keep them coming...

Thanks to all those that submitted ideas on here and via email, many of them are being explored with some already well on the way to being implemented!
*Gambler - missed your comment! was that an offer? lol ;D
