Title: Westcoast Artists to play a major roll in 2007?
Post by: shaydee on January 05, 2007, 12:36:20 PM
Dr Dre - Detox will hopefully drop later this year.
The Game - Third album will be his best imo.
Bishop Lamont - Should take over the mixtape circuit like Game did in 2003.
B-Real - Known to be recording a solo album, with the right A&R direction he could be a major commercial success.

Surprise act:
THE LUNIZ - I think Yuk and Knum will come back, with a new label situation.

Please add to the list!

The Luniz and B-Real will never have a major role in hip-hop again.

Ya got guys like Bishop Lamont, Glasses Malone, Ya Boy, Omar Cruz, Clyde Carson, Mr. FAB, The Game. But a side from these rappers, most these fools don't know how to run the rap games and (sad to say) might never be major factors. Even the guys I just mentioned have a good chance of falling flat on there face.

I don't see 3rd tier artists like the above playing a major roll for the west, nobody outside of west coast forums have even heard of them. Omar Cruz needs a super hot single, otherwise he won't make an impact.

Lot's of people have heard about ya Boy and Glasses Malone. Their BWS connection really helped them.

So? Cali Iz Active didn't sell shit. Tha Dogg Pound will have to completly switch it up if they want to be major players again.

I agree with Ted is famous. If Daz Dillinger can't go gold with JD, then those 3rd tier acts won't make it because they bring nothing new just like how everyone was ranting and raving about Sly Boogie and Crooked I a few years ago. They will never play a major roll because they just can;t cut it with the 1st (Snoop, 2Pac, Dre, Game, Cube) and 2nd (Xzibit, E-40) tier. They may have a buzz in Califnornia, but nowhere else. Ras Kass may make a come back. I was hoping that Kurupt would sign to a major. Too Short may make a surprise single. There is nobody else worth mentioning, really!

B-Real could follow up success with the D12 record. cmon, hes Dr Greenthumb!

CIA flopped hard, so did Daz's album. I just don't think Tha Dogg Pound can releasea another successful album. Them being West Coast legends isn't relevent to the rest of the world.

^^ good point.

I'm looking at G. Malone. it'd be a waste of 1.7 million dollars on the part of his label if they didn't do their best to promote him, finance videos, release 3 videos/singles, pay for good production etc.

You don't really believe in that? Maybe Glasses Malone is the only guy that could have some success, but I don't see him going near to Gold. Hopefully he sells abou 300.000 when he drops his album. Nobody knows Bad Lucc. Maybe they get a chance with that Western Union shit, if Snoop could handle it right, but I don't see that. The buzz he created on them and Warzone is flown away. Snoop never had a lucky hand when it came to put artists out. If he were good this, Tiffany Foxx would have had a top 20 single with "Shake That Shit". I hope Warzone gets some attention through the Candy video.
The only westcoast-rappers that can make some noise in my eyes are: Mistah F.A.B. , Bishop Lamont & Messy Marv.

We have a lot of new good talent with the likes of

Bishop Lamont
Omar Cruz
Ya Boy
Glasses Malone
Mista FAB

I like all of them, but i think Bishop has the best chance blow up since he has dre and is on aftermath.

What im most excited about is all this dope west coast music im going to be able to listen to.

Oh, and obviously Dre will explode the west if he drops Detox.

Their won't be a thrid Game album in 2007. Plus I doubt they even made profits on it. 750,000 sold is alot of albums, but after paying Snoop, Xzibit, Storch, DPG, JR, Notz, etc etc etc... for their helping hand? Those are huge names, which means huge prices. I doubt Geffen is entirely happy with the project. Probably see a new Game album in 2008.

I know A LOT of people who are checkin for Ya Boy and G.Malone. I see Bishop makin a name for himself aswell. Damani is real talented but I've never heard anyone (outside of the internet) mention him.

B. Lamont is gonna be stuck on Aftermath like everyone else on that label...I mean Game came through because of the G-Unit buzz....

But major players....I would say:
Omar Cruz
Western Union
Dogg Pound
Kurupt (solo)
another bay artist....maybe E-40 again...maybe San Quinn?

WC kinda got the foot in the door, now time to step it up....The rest will all be surprises to me!

All these artists wont do shit outside the westcoast, except these 3 even with Ya Boy im a bit skeptical, but i have a feeling that G Malone will do big things in 2007, seems like hes got strong backing from Sony with the 1.7mill and everything, plus hes one of the few underground westcoast rappers that could be marketable in the mainstream

the problem is, that nobody can recognize Dre's music as westcoast music in these days, so it won't help the west that much. Dre's an eastcoast cat right now.

Yall need to stop equating an "internet buzz" with niggas actually having a fan base and being known outside of California> I see yall year after year make these predictions, and year after year these cats stay local. dont get me wrong, Half these dudes yall mention are my homies so i hope like hell they do theyre thing. Spit Fiya, who I know personally has the biggest production on his fourthcoming album, will def be a factor in 07 He got some heat! jay Rocks shit is off the meatrack, Roccets down with Jeezys lable CTE/Def Jam. Me, I seriously dont give a fuck if niggas never mention me, Ive toured the world and Im far from local, Im all about my paper.

LMAO at thinking they just gave Glasses 1.7 million dollars. but that´s for his album budget and other expenses so when it comes down it they probably just hit him off with 300k. keep in mind that 50 Cent didn´t really get a million dollar advance(it was just for hype)and his buzz was atleast 100x bigger then Glasses'. and sadly i think it´s gonna be the same players making noise on the left coast. there´s definently a lot of talent around but the rappers that blow are up are the ones that takes time out to go to NY and network and get on mixtapes and really get the general public aware of them. all the other cats gonna be out in Cali complaining like a gang of broke prostitues wondering why no one gives a shit about them.

Preach!.. its going to be years, (if even), before we start seeing just girls and the casual rap fan saying "that new glasses malone song was the shit". outside of the internet, these guys aint no factor, and have no buzz.

Yeah, G malone aint get a 1.7 mill for himself. that shits going to cover his album budget, marketing, and paying for all that shit.. so what it boils down to like POTT said, is he prob got hit with like 300,500 K at MOST. and that 1.7 is probably even covering multiple albums.
