My feeling about the state of hip-hop is both positive and negative.
Negative: It'll never be as great as it was when I was a kid, early teens, but everybody says that about they're teenage years. But for real, I remember my friends (before they all became frat guys and starting listening to Dave Mathews Band) coming over back and watching YO MTV Raps, back in the day. It was the shit, in one night you would see:
Typical lineup of video's for YO MTV Raps: Midnight, Fri.- 95-96
Dogg Pound- New York
Fugee's- Fugee La
Bone- Crossroads
Kriss Kross- Tonight's the Night
MC Light- Keep On- Keepin On
Nonchalant- 5-Oclock' In the Mornin
Masta Ace- INC Ride
AZ- Sugar Hill
WC and the Madd Circle- Front, Back, Side to Side
Any of ya'll remember that shit. 13-14 years old. Life will never be better than that. Having my homeboys over, going to the mall, hollerin at the hoes, back when girls we're young and not afraid to show their interest in you, coming back home, watching MTV Raps, then going out and terrorizing the nieghborhood, meeting up with some girls from the nieghborhood, just running around being a punk.
My life now: Now it's all about me getting a job, paying bills, women just aren't the same, it's no fun hanging with girls anymore, it's the same old tired parties, tired jokes, talking about drinking, how drunk you were the night before, monotonous material, talking about this person or that person behind they're back, it's all bullshit, I went to this party the other night, and eveybody was listening to Nelly, and Nickelback. It was so much bullshit. It just ain't the same. Any of ya'll 19-20 year olds feel what I'm sayin?

I'm 22 years old bro, I used to feel just like you. For me, my favorite years in hip hop were '91-'94, no offense but after that is when it seemed to fall off. Like I said though I used to feel that way. I almost totally quit listening to new hip hop around '98-'99, but then Dre's 2001 came out and that brought me back home. I hated it at first but one day I just realized somethin: times change and what makes music sell is gonna change. The '90's were a good time in hip hop, and so was being a teenager, but those times are gone forever. It sounds corny as hell, but if your livin in the past, your gonna miss out on the future. I think hip hop and music in general is in an exciting time right now, the shit they're puttin out today is really pretty great overall. I just don't want to be stuck in the '90's like my pops is with the '70's. Sure, I'll always appreciate the music, but at some point you gotta move on.

Bleech, thanks homie, but really you missed the point of my thread. My post was just me reminising about "Back in the day, when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days, I sit and wish I was a kid again." Really, ever year I get deeper and deeper into hip-hop that's the way it is for me. I just miss more so the time period, but the hip-hop is still going strong, as a whole.

I love that Ahmad joint too man. I am 21, and i feel what you sayin for real.
I remember: Fantastic Voyage, Back in hte Day, This Dj, One Love by Nas, Can it Be so Simple by Wu, on and on.
Times change, those were the glory days for guys like us, just like today is the shit for younger cats, and 91-94 was the days for Bleech, ya know.
And Bleech, glad ya back in this hip hop thing, cuz i give ya props for actually bumpin DFC back in the day. I thought everyone else was too young to know about this shit.

Damn...

^^^Word to SugeFight.
'98 signalled the end of the old South...CMR came along, NL went all wack for most of the time, and Aquemini signalled the perfection of hip-hop...
-
infinite, i hope you aren't puttin down nickelback because they are an amazing band...top 5 out right now...i've been down with them way before there new cd "silver side up" became real famous and platinum, almost double...i also hope you aren't putting nickelback in the same catagory as nelly...but i do feel everything else you are saying...but i just go with the times, i'm still having fun doin my thang...just keep doin yours, peace.

Lee, your post left alot to be desired, it had no substance. And that's exactly what I'm talking about, I speak some real shit, and get critisized, nobody gives a shit.... It's like Ras Kass said, "It goes one for the money, two for the show, three for the ladies, but all they wanted was one."
-
whatever ... yawn .... ::)
-
Yawn because 'Elevatin is treated like elevator music' it's like we are still living in the days where women think that they can't open they're mouth with an opinion, so they end up just sticking their fucking noses up in the air.
But to everyone else thanks for your comments. And AlerG, what's the deal with this Nickelback thing, I'm sorry, but that music seems monotonous to me, another love song. But your still my boy.
-
i don't know what ur on about b4 so thats why i said yawn .. it was a load of dribble that made no sense ... lightin up
-
It makes complete sense, but you'd rather dismiss it because you grew up around fake people, and it makes you feel uncomfortable when I speak some real shit. It sounds wierd to you.
-
it sounds weird coz one minute ur on about rap .. next ur on about about urself ...
thats good u liked ur childhood ... and its rough that u don't like ur life now ... but thats life ..
if theres something wrong with ur life fix it and stop moaning to complete strangers that don't really give a fuck on the net.
-
Ohhh if there's something wrong with my life "fix it" okay, it's all so simple now, wow, your a fuckin genius, thank you for blessing us with your presence.
-
it's just apart of growing up
they don't say your teen years are the happiest years of your life for nothing

They aint never meet me, Damn if thats tru then tha next 60 years are really goin suck, my teen years have sucked.
-
Infinite, i feel ya man, fukk a bitch! And yo, we all go through this shit at some time, keep ya head Up! Damn, my dad says the same thing to me, ain't no days like your childhood, but life goes on and it is what you make of it. You gotta go grow up but you can still stay a big teenager.....and yo, i feel ya, cuz most of my friends ain't with Hiphop anymore eitherm things change. In fact, i hardly know anyone who stays with it like me, that's why i am on here.
And for real, i feel your Ras Kass quote man, i love that song!
-
Damn now you got me reminiscing about the past. I feel you homie. I miss my teenage years. I usually feel hella down and shit when I think about it. Word that Ahmad song brings back old memories and it definitely captures my feelings about my life. "I wish I was a kid again". :(
-
People Feel That Way about The Past In General, Not REally A Specific Year. When Your 30, You'll Reminisce About How Good You Had It When You Were 20. But Now That You're 20, You're Reminiscing About How Good You Had It At 14. Life Is Like Wine, Gets Better With Age, For Real. It's What You Make Of It. While You're Sitting There Worrying About 6 Years Ago, This Year's Slippin' By. Just Make Memories Now And When You Really ARE Past Your Gold Years, You Can Sit Back And Be Glad About It.
-
thats what i've been trying say .... like what trauma says u should try to make the best of ur life now ..
and its ok i'll bless u with my presence another time ::) :-*
-
Man I just can't wait to get out of school and shit. I want to grow up, have control of my life. I'm in 10th now. In march I turn 16 and will be able to drive. I want to get a job so I can start producing and shit.
