Meanwhile, the Staples Center's other occupants attempted to lift Jason Kidd several weeks ago, perhaps a month, according to sources on both coasts.
Presuming the Nets might want to distance themselves from their leader's marriage crisis, as well as unload Kidd's $40 million guaranteed over the next two seasons, the Lakers submitted a bunch of disposable players/expiring contracts - Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, etc. The only L.A. player of consequence mentioned was rookie guard Jordan Farmar.
They figured wrong. That doesn't mean the Lakers have stopped trying to find a Kobe Bryant-compatible workaholic to lighten his everyday burden, the return to active duty of Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown, aside. Management's greatest concern is that the team's over reliance on Bryant ultimately will extinguish his flame seasons ahead of time.
As for Kidd, strangely enough, airing his dirty laundry appears to have lifted a massive weight off his shoulders. (Notice his wife has yet to counter-file for divorce. I'm told Joumana is fervently trying to reconcile. Removing the paint she poured on his golf clubs might help.) At 34 (March 23), Kidd is playing as well across the stats sheet as ever, if not better.
The smart money, in case you're making a line at home, is on the Nets trading Carter before the Feb. 22 deadline. With two-fifths of their starting lineup (Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krstic) recuperating from surgery, management's expectations have been proportionately lowered.

I'd like to get him, but I will slap the shit outta Mitch if he trades Farmar.
-
Kidd is still playing great, it would be a good move by the Lakers, he would get another chance at winning a title
-
Not sure how I feel about this one...
Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, I can see, But Farmar.. :-\
Same with the Clipp's I heard Livingston's named mentioned in a possible net's deal... :-\
We'll see
Don't get me wrong tho, IMO J.Kidd is The Magic Johnson of this era,
and would make any team better no matter who they are, just he's getting up there in age ya know.

If we get Kidd there is now way the Lakers aren't winning it all.
-
That would have been something. The back court of Kidd & Kobe plus the front court of Kwmae & Odom would make the Lakers the elite team of the NBA. But Kidd=34 Farmar=20. I'd rather keep Farmar.
-
mihm and mckey can DEFINATELY get the fuck outta here, but i wouldn't trade farmar. i'd probably throw in smush or vujacic or radmonivic, but not farmar
-
that would of been sweet to get Kid but not at the cost of Farmer.I think the Lakers will stay put and ride with their players.
-
i dont want this to happen..
-
fuc it
jason kid + kobe + NIK team head giver= championship
-
It would be a hit or miss situation.. win the title within the next 2 years or die.. I'm not a fan of these type of situations.. I prefer to think about the future with Farmar
-
Farmar? :puke:
Good thing it was only a rumor...

They were gonna give up Farmar? FUCK THAT! Farmar is gonna be a star
-
I'd give up Farmar for Kidd in a heartbeat. This is freaking Jason Kidd people, if Kwame plus Farmar plus expiring K's gets us Kidd, we're instant favorites. You do that trade.
-
^What the hell? This is a Jason Kidd well out of his prime, we give up Farmar and we're FUCKED with no point guard for the future...Lakers are not the Heat, we're about building dynasties, not about winning a championship or two and that's it...LOL. Jordan Farmar is our future point guard, I dunno what you're smoking, but I wouldn't give him up for someone who wont even be around when he's entering his prime...PeACe

I definitely agree. Kidd would be better than Farmar for 2, maybe three years at most...but he's 34, and one more injury from bein out the game or endin up at Chris Webber's level. I think we're just amazed by the name "Jason Kidd", even though he's still ballin hard this year.
Now I think I'd give up Smush for him...but not Farmar.
-
its not gonna happen but it would've been interesting, Kidd and Kobe in the backcourt :o, I think Kidd still has a couple of good years left he's balin this year but the Nets are going nowhere fast
-
Do it Mitch.
-
^ Who are you? Inglewood?
-
Trading Farmar is a NO NO..Hes gonna be Special
-
Destroyed future or not, Kidd on the Lakers would make 'em contenders. Real contenders, not those kinda-contenders they are now.
