What songs from the West would you say are classics, or near classics, that never received any radio or TV play? This might be easier for people from California to speak on, since we would have heard it. You can mention album cuts from albums that everybody knows and has, or you can mention songs that would have been lead singles for albums that didn't get much push.
I'd say that NWA Fuck the police is easily #1. Everybody in the nation knows that song, and it was very controversial...but it was way too extreme to ever put on radio or TV.
2Pac Hit em up is probably #2....it was very controversial, and even Biggie fans in NY sang the lyrics to it..but it could never be on radio.
Suga Free "Why you bullshittin?" has to be #3, because it was never censored enough to hit radio....but if you put it on in any L.A. club, people will sing it word for word.
Other than that...I'd say:
Snoop - Tha Shiznit
DJ Quik - Mo pussy (at least I don't think it was on radio)
Dogg Pound - Bomb azz puzzy
Jayo - Sherm stick
I can't speak for too many Bay songs, because I'm sure that there are songs we know about in L.A. that got radio play in the Bay, but not in L.A.

Yeah I remember it, and I remember the Mo pussy video too (or maybe it was Sweet black pussy)...but those videos never got video play on TV, so that's really what I'm goin for....the songs that the average consumer who listens (or listened) to radio and watched BET/MTV may not have known about, especially before the internet took off. I only heard Hit em up because Murs n his brother had it on tape.

Ha ha. I'm listening to that song right now.

I'll throw it out there like I do in these type of threads: Crooked I - Boom Boom Clap, could of been a huge hit.

One song that should have been a monster but had a pretty shitty video was Dr. Dre "Bad Intentions". Shit could have blown up crazy but the video sucked ass.
But two songs jump to mind, "Put it on me" with Dr. Dre and DJ Quik, and "On the boulevard" with Dre and Snoop. Both songs could have had some crazy videos and probably would have been hits. Another one that should have had a video was 2pac feat. K-Ci and Jojo for "Thug n me". K-Ci & Jojo already had a radio version of the song recorded and put on their album (replacing the middle Pac verse with singing verses) and they could have filmed a video for the track. That song could have been a monster if they did it right.

I'll go with that too. I heard Why U Bullshittin on the radio a couple weeks ago for the first time. But yeah, everyone knows that song.

Listening to "Dillinger & Young Gotti" right now, and I really think that "Party At My House" and "We Livin' Gangsta Like" would have made great singles. I wish Daz and Kurupt had made videos for these two tracks, even if they were some low-budger, 'street' clips. Also, "Coastin" should have been a bigger single IMO. I guess it's unreasonable to expect any single from DPG Recordz/Gangsta Advisory to blow up on a major single, being an independant. To me, though, that remains one of the duo's finest moments. Awesome.
"Mike Dean, let the bass go..."

game dont wait remix. has a dope video but was never officially available in stores. peeps could listen and watch but couldnt buy.

Ghetto Vet by Cube, shit is straight crack

That song was hard as fuck. Julio G used to play that on his show every week. Another banger from the same producer (Bud'da) was 3 card molly, with Xzibit, Ras Kass, and Saafir. Julio G used to play that on his show all the time too.
Here are some more:
Above the Law - Black Superman
This song did have a video but I don't think it ever actually aired, if it did, maybe once or twice. The radio stations only played it on mix shows but the song was freaking HUGE on the streets, like you wouldn't believe.
-
How bout dat Eazy-E song... dont remember what its called... "She Swallowed It" or something... he goes: "Its the world's biggest dick! What u want me to do with it? Dont matter, just dont bite.." or something like dat...
-
I gotta go with "Higher" by The Game
the most known got to be snoop dogg - aint no fun....play that any house party and it usually gets the place goin
Hell yeah. It's crazy to think that song is that huge and never had a video.
I'll throw it out there like I do in these type of threads: Crooked I - Boom Boom Clap, could of been a huge hit.
No one outside of the internet knows that song.
