Title: Eddie Jones is signing with...
Post by: GangstaBoogy on January 30, 2007, 12:55:34 PM
The Miami Heat. Geez what an idiot. I'm anticipating Shaq getting him traded within 2 weeks.

Jones free to sign with Heat on ThursdayBy Chris Sheridan
ESPN.com

Eddie Jones is heading back to the Miami Heat, ESPN.com has learned.

Jones agreed Monday on a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, giving up about $300,000 of his $15.7 million salary to gain his freedom from the team with the NBA's worst record. The money lost through the buyout will be made up when he signs for a prorated portion of the NBA minimum.

Jones will clear waivers Thursday morning, after which he can sign with any NBA team.

However, a source close to the situation said Jones has already decided he'll sign with Miami, meaning it is possible he will be in uniform for the defending champs when they play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.

The 12-year veteran spent five seasons with the Heat before being dealt to the Grizzlies in the five-team trade in the summer of 2005 that sent James Posey, Jason Williams and Antoine Walker to the Heat.

Jones was averaging just 5.6 points in 29 games for the Grizzlies after being a 16.0 scorer over the first dozen years of his career.

Not a smart move. Shaq already has gotten rid of him on two occasions. Number 3 is coming up soon.

"The Lakers couldn't land Chris Webber, but they were mildly intrigued Tuesday when a familiar face, Eddie Jones, was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies. Jones' agent, Leon Rose, said there were brief exploratory talks with the Lakers, although Jones is reportedly leaning toward the Miami Heat after he clears waivers Thursday."

"I can still defend my butt off," Jones recently told reporters. "I can still make the open shots. That's something a lot of teams would love to have."

there's two things that just don't add up if ^ is true

1. if what certain posters  say is true, eddie+shaq=bad blood, why would he make a third run with shaq? even if shaq got him traded twice it was all business.

2. if what certain posters say is true, eddie+kobe=good blood, why would he turn down a shot to play and win with his original team as opposed to taking a gamble in miami?

something doesn't add up

^^Lakers didn't want Eddie, we're stacked at the 2 and 3 spot, it was nothing but "brief exploratory talks"...PeACe

Maybe cause he's from Florida. His parents and family lives there, and his daughter is ill (i don't remember her problem..) and he probably wants to stay in Florida cause she get more comfortable there. I don't know. But that's a possibility.

^^Yup...And I'm also sure Shaq has a lot less say with his situation in Miami now...LOL. One thing for sure though, Shaq got EJ traded TWICE, there's nothing to debate there...Whether or not he'll have the chance to do it AGAIN is yet to be determined.

Shaq still has no love for Eddie...

Still, O'Neal, who has played in only two of Miami's four games since returning from Nov. 19 knee surgery, said he'd like to start playing "at least more than 20, 25 (minutes)."

And O'Neal said if that happens, the team wouldn't need to sign another player, such as former Heat swingman Eddie Jones, because O'Neal could begin leading Miami out of the doldrums of its 20-25 record.

"When I come back out there full strength that's what I have to do," he said. "We don't need anybody else's help and we don't need to make any moves. It's my job to get the guys right and I could do a better job of getting them right when I'm out there."

I wonder why he's so anti-Eddie Jones.

^^It's the same reason he was jealous of Kobe...If you wanna know why, read Mark Heisler's "Madmens Ball".

He just basically never liked the way EJ played, demanding too much offense and making the team perimeter oriented. Especially when he was a star on the rise.  Shaq always preferred someone to just catch and shoot, or feed it to him in the post, which is why the Lakers traded for Glen Rice and the Heat for James Posey. That's also why he never wanted to defer to Kobe as well, he could never get Kobe traded, but if Kobe stayed, his rule was that he'd never defer to him... he hates skill players who control the team and the flow of the game with the way they play (IE Kobe Bryant, Penny Hardaway, Eddie Jones)...Shaq is pretty much the biggest baby you could ever think of, the more you read into the type of person this guy is, the less you can really respect him...PeACe

^ but that was 10 years ago. I know Shaq is a big baby, but is he really immature enough to toy with Eddie after all these years? I mean he did make up with Penny (I recall hearing he once tried to bring Penny to the Lakers in exchange for a young Kobe).

Now that EJ doens't demand nearly as much offense, I'm sure Shaq will be able to stomach him. 3rd times a charm, eh?

they don't really need him on offense anyways they've got plenty of that, like ej said , he can still defend and that's always a plus . having a wingman 6'5 6'6 who can defend and cause matchup problems. if the heat make it to the playoffs imagine having Shaq Zo, wade, EJ, and posey out there in the 3rd quarter, or eddie comiing off the bench. it'd be a smart defensive move. offensively it's not going to have any impact  though.
