This is Tony Best: former Death Row, Aftermath and Amaru employee. For the record I was AM NOT and NEVER WAS Playa P or Nino Brown. My only alias was mr3865, which I didn't keep a secret. There's also alot of rumors on this board that I have to clear up.
NO, I was never an engineer...I wanted to be back in `95 but it didn't happen. I'm not going to front: I only answered the phones at Death Row, that's it. It was 1995 and I was 19 years old - most of you would take advantage of that shit in a minute! Therefore I NEVER had access to the unreleased stuff that I'm accused of sharing. Now, I did see and hear songs/long form videos that westcoast fans could only wish to peep, but the label had that shit on EXTREME lockdown and there was no way in hell a dude answering the phones would even get copies.
Same goes for Aftermath (I was more of an office clerk) and Amaru (where I did A&R). All those tapes, 2-track mixes of DATs and cassettes at the time, where locked down like some White House government shit. Interesting story: after a studio session, Dre would keep a leather bag filled with tapes which he called "the football," named after what President Bill Clinton had at the time which contained the nuclear launch codes. True story.
Now I did give away alot of record company promo stuff that went out to DJs and other industry people. For example, limited edition CDs, rare magazines, bios, etc. I just didn't have a need for those anymore. But no unreleased tracks from "Doggystyle" or "Dogg Food" - sorry. I think people have used me as an alias and just went rampant about some shit - but this is the real Tony Best. And just like ya'll, after I left the rap business I was on the market to get some of this released stuff that was floating around the interenet. Not to sell, but for my only personal use. Now engineers, artists and record company executives are responsible for circulating bootlegs. Not a dude who answers the fucking phone!
So I just had to clear the air on that. For all you gossiping females - keep my name out of your mouth! Now if you have any general questions about that era and the business I'm more than free to answer...but not everything because its none of the public's business. I've been offered to speak with documentry people and journalists about my experienced in that crazy business but I always decline. First, out of respect. Second, I got my own project coming out that deals with a particular musical aspect of that era. Peace.

Alright here goes nothing. Nino Brown is really Scott Shepard a "16 Stone" internet nerd. He started out doing sites with people on the net we reffer to as "big wigs" because they are big ass nerds! So Scott & Playa P came out at the same time and started doing bootlegs. Little did anyone know that Scott and Playa P are the same person. Scott did this to avoid the net beef. Playa P closes his site. That same month a new dude named Nino Brown * In the movies the infamous crack lord off New Jack City * appears on the scene with Death Row Entertainment. Giving props to Playa P. So that goes on for a little while. This is where the crack comes in. P is a term for crack. Nino Brown was a crack lord in the movie New Jack City. I've been told by many Death Row UK employees Scott was on crack.This is just the net shit keep in mind. I want to get in the more infamous crimes. Scott was hired by Death Row UK in 2000. Check the www.deathrowentertainment.com site on www.archive.org and add a /* after you search to go to the server and view the Daz cussing him out picture. That picture was because he was hired by Death Row. So Nino was a great promotions guy. But like most all promotion guys at Death Row he had a flaw. The crack and I emphisize this because it will influence Scott's later descions. So Scott being Scott started getting greedy. He felt like he was being abused so he went around swiping promos and even getting into Ron's vault. That's right you heard me the unreleased shit. Scott was actually caught night after night doing this. I sware on my life they have close circuit TV of him doing it. So Scott keeps doing this for a couple of years. Until the around the time of Dysfunktional Family OST was released. This is actual testimony from a employee over at Death Row UK. "The last we all saw of him was after dysfunktional family was released, it was a meeting with about 60 people all directors of Deathrow, Interscope and MTV, everyone was sat there at the big tables it was quiet, he just all of a sudden jumped out of his seat and threw his paperwork on the floor and stormed out of the room shouting abuse." If that isn't a premadonna I don't know what is. A couple of the items he stole was Death Row was Jewell's album, Danny Boy's album, The Knight Time Compilation, and other various things. Scott goes on a couple of years getting a great rep, but then he starts thinking he's some dope internet thug. Oh and for those wondering why Kay stopped doing Dynasty was because he didn't get down with Crooked I's politics. lol What a cry baby. So we end up with this. A net gangsta running internet chain gangs parading around sites listening to pop and house music with tons of aliases. Way to go Playa P! Litt and the rest was right about your reputation. Whatever the case is. That unreleased music sadly missed its time. In 2007 I don’t think people would bother paying more than $15 for CD quality versions of songs that are almost two decades old, let alone 2generation cassette quality copies of the music. The stuffs just too dated now.

By the way you all remember when I was advertising The Come Up promo? Well that was given to him by Danny Boy to give to Death Row allgedly. He took all 200 copies and hoarded them. When I was advertising the sell of that it was him selling a copy. He's been using me like this for ages. So i'm coming clean. Btw Grundy, I know your directing your shit to Mr. Best, but I have awnsers for a couple. Nino Brown did traydeee.com and played me about 50 tracks over the phone for about an hour, from 96, tray deee was talking about deathrow all the time.... he said some tracks were from the ORIGINAL DEATHROW EASTSIDAZ group, which were Snoop, Tray D, C Style and Techniec (not many know this). Also one track he played was Snoop Dogg, Tray Deee, Techniec, and Sam Sneed produced by Sneed titled "More Than Friends"

I gave a few people promo CDs and EXTREMELY RARE press materials that I could have sold on eBay for a good amount of cheese, but chose to give them away to the dedicated fans overseas. Sadly, it seems that back then (late nineties) brothers here in the states had given up on westcoast music and peeps in the UK were keeping it alive.
As far as me trading rare songs, those were tracks I had bought from other collectors and/or traded for my promo materials. I then traded those with other collectors in the UK. Its kind of like how the Grateful Dead fans have established networks of bootleging (although its sanctioned by the band).
But its impossible for me to get into anyone's vault and get a hold of some masters. I have as good as a chance as you do :)
Obviously some of you have never worked in the music business. I guess some think that Dogg Pound/Dr. Dre master tapes are just sitting around the office (lol)! Master tapes are treated like Fort Knox (unless like I said, you're an engineer, label exec or artist who has instant access to them). Mr. Best, I see where your coming from about Nino. But considering he was stealing tapes it's a different matter. Ron callled up to his house yesterday or the day before. Ron has almost all the same shit Suge has. Back then all of the employee's were allowed into that part of the building. So it was easy for him to steal them. I guess they trusted them too much. It's about Nino being Playa P and stealing from Death Row. It wasn't all from Tony Best. Tony was only responsible for the DPG shit from Daz. Ain't that right Tony? If this doesn't get deleted i'll tell the whole story on Nino top to bottom.
The rare Daz/DPG shit I got from someone else off the street in LA. You can get some of the dope, unreleased shit from people on sidewalks or at the sawpmeet. Matter of fact, back in 93 there was a version of the Doggystle album that was on the streets weeks before it came out. Although I don't have it, my boy has a RARE, skeletal version of "Ain't No Fun" without some of the keyboard parts and Fender Rhodes chords. He got it at the Slauson swapmeet...but the due doesn't want to share.
Last time I saw Daz was in 97 when he was working on the IMX album. It was at some hamburger stand. We just said "whats up" and kept it moving. Not exactly an opportunity for me for him to go, "Ay Tony...take some of my unreleased shit!"
Most people who work at labels will make it seem that they are all buddy-buddy with the artists. Sometimes its true, most times the artists could give a damn about the employees. Yeah, I hung out with artists on Death Row and Aftermath, even went to their houses to watch games and just chill, but nobody was giving me any music. I heard a gang of shit though - damn! And if I was to talk or see most of the artists today, on the real, they probably wouldn't even know who I was. It's been ten years since I been in the game. Plus, I'm sure other things have taken a toll on their memory :)

CR, the guy has a confirmed album on Death Row. I should have some snippets up on my site soon. I tried getting them on there before, but people kept interfering. Also the OFTB and Tha Outlawz albums are not real. They are just random mashups of their Death Row tracks.

I'm pretty sure Sneed has quite a few unreleased songs, maybe even enough for an album. I think him and Dre were both working on his solo LP at Dre's home studio. Sneed's album would have been hot - dude brought a new sound to the label. I think if Sam would have worked consistently from then till now, he would have been one of the legendary producers of today.

Only reason I started the thread was because my little niece, who comes on the site, told me I was being accused of being a Death Row engineer who bootlegged shit, which I never did. I had to clear that up on the advise of my lawyer and associates who don't take these matters lightly. We should lock this thread now because a lot of idiots are making crazy statements.
