whats up with warren g sayin "snoop rock" on the "do u see" track ?
was that snoops alias in the early 213 era ?
was snoop sellin rocks or whats the story behind that ?
"way back then 213 was a click ...
somethin to stay paid i was just a young hog ...
warren g, snoop rock and nate dogg ... "
-
No idea, i just listened to that track again, i see what ya mean man. Maybe they just used to call him that 'till he went big time or something.
-
I think his OG rap name was Snoop Rock
-
listen to the 213 demo track.. at one point (around the 4'th minute) he raps something like: "my name is snoop dogg, but i was known as the rock, for hitting the spot and coming with temptation bla bla bla bla...."
-
Yep Snoop used to go by Snoop Rock
-
Yup he went by snoop rock back in the day. The BS about him being called Snoopa Doopa is false. He switched to Snoop Doggy Dogg when he started fuckin with Foesum.
-
He was Snoop Rock, Snoop Eastwood and before that he was Snoopa Doopa
-
I remember him sayin Snoop Eastwood too....I donno if that was his real rap name, or if it was just an alias like "Kurupt young Gotti" or "Daz Dillinger".
I always wondered...did Death Row own the name "Snoop Doggy Dogg?" I figured that they owned it, just as Warner Bros or whoever owned Prince's name, and that's the real reason he shortened it to just Snoop Dogg.
-
Snoop was know as Snoop Rock Ski, have no clue how the Ski fits in there. Snoop Eastwood was just some smooth shit he rapped, and yes Death Row owned Snoop Doogy Dogg. But He was not mad because when he shorten it, he said Snoop Dogg sounded more professional, and no one really used the Doggy in conversation.

Yeah he had it great, because most people didn't even notice that he took it off, and if they did, they didn't care at all.
After I heard about Prince having his name owned, I started to think of every other artist or group who changed their name at some point in their career, and figured that it had to do with that. It's crazy as hell that somebody can own your damm name...that's all bad. At least Snoop could change his...Kurupt, Warren, Nate, and most other rappers would have to completely change their name, or at least add something to it.

For the Young Gotti & Dillinger names, it was 2pac idea 8)

i remember reading on the deathrow boards back in like 2001 they had an article up of Suge, who said that he also wanted to be called 'Snoop Locc" when he came to death row, not sure how true that is though
-
Suge also said he wanted to be Snoopa Doopa, which Suge said was wacked. I believe Snoop Loc before Snoopa Doopa though.

Death Row also owned the name Dogg Pound, which is why Kurupt and Daz called themselves DPG, and Death Row owns the name The Gang, which was used by Daz and Kurupt. Kurupt once said that he and Daz were The Gang, add Snoop and Nate, that's the Dogg Pound, then add Soopafly and Warren G and that's DPG, and everyone after that is DPGC... but after Death Row collected on names, it was all DPG... ha ha ha.
