Title: And now... "The Chronic" vs. "Doggystyle" (Poll)
Post by: Sosna on February 14, 2007, 04:47:37 AM
Like in subject - "The Chronic" or "Doggystyle"? What one would you have if you can have only one of them? WHY?

Yeah, I know that's really difficult choice...

close call but I like the more uptempo style of beats on Doggystyle and Snoop was flawless during this perdiod

I voted fo' "Doggystyle", because it's much more melodic and isn't as gangsta as "The Chronic" - there's a lot of bounce that I love...

even though Chronic was like the blueprint for that album, I felt Doggystyle even improved on what Dre was doing, it was like a more polished version of the Chronic, with Snoop of course having the main role

Vote: The Chronic

Doggystyle is more laid back but doesn't have the scope of The Chronic.

"Doggystyle" because this album solidified the G-Funk sound!  "The Chronic" scratched the surface of G-Funk but was more gangsta.  Still a classic album though but "Doggystyle" gets my vote!

100

I am defanitely feeling doggystyle more. to me, it's actually alot better then the chronic. the beats was the major difference, and like someone said, snoop was flawless at this point.

Voted for Doggystyle, Snoop did it with that. But when I want to hear an album without skippin' a track, I always listen to 'Chronic'

I like them both so much but if i had only one choice, it would THE CHRONIC... reason being that every artist on that album was so damn hungry, Snoop ripped, the whole DPG ripped, just the way they made that album when you hear the stories of them being up in the studio for days just smoking and putting that masterpiece together... Its really tough cuz Doggystyle is on the same level, i dont know i just lean towards the chronic just a lil bit becus of its the starting point...

Look at this: on "The Chronic" are some songs without Dre like "Lyrical Gangbang", "High Powered" or "Stranded On Death Row". On "Doggystyle" is only one track without Snoop - "For All My Niggaz And Bitches"...

Huh, I don't know why on Dre's album he isn't on whole CD...

real talk. I voted Chronic.

Dre produces every track, there are tracks without his vocals on 2001 too, that's the point. when a producer puts an album out it's more about how good of a record they can put together than rapping on every track. also, snoop is on for all my niggaz and bitches. his little bridge verse is sick "throw your guns in the muthafuckin' air...we don't care my....NIGGAS DON'T GIVE A FUCK, NIGGA."

Same i felt in doggystyle dre had further perfected the sound he had in the chronic. Plus Snoop was on it more and the other guests sounded more confident...

The Chronic is like a time capsule. It completely captures the whole aura of what was going on at the time. Both are classic albums but the Chronic stands out more as a work of art in my mind. It has that feel, that depth, listening to that album is like being in a movie. It tells a story throughout the whole album.

I feel both albums are equally good with all the exact same people involved (excluding lil malik(doggystyle)/bushwick bill/ruben cruz(chronic)), but The Chronic is as good as doggystyle AND it's historically significant so that puts it over the top for me. It's a moe intelligent record now that I really think about it. Doggystyle certainly is more polished, it is the g-funk masterpiece whereas chronic is like the funky gangsta rap masterpiece....damn, one could go on forever in pontificating comparison...They go together, you can't take 'em apart. I always felt like chronic/doggystyle/regulate were the holy trinity of G funk in its prime, like a three in one deal you need 'em all when you're in the mood for one. The chronic being on the rougher spectrum, regulate on the softer one and doggystyle right in the middle making it the masterpiece. dogg food and MWTC production wise are a level below those three in my mind.

did the glove work on doggystyle too?

I'm gonna have to say "The Chronic", but it is a VERY hard choice to make.  But despite what people are saying, I didn't really feel like "Doggystyle" improved on "The Chronic" THAT much, production-wise, but it did improve in one area - you get to hear Snoop all the time, and since he was in his prime then, that was the best thing Dre could've done.

But the fact is, it still felt like it was basically "The Chronic, Part 2" except without Dre doing any rapping, so it didn't have the same kinda freshness as "The Chronic" for me.  If you'd heard "Doggystyle" first, tho, I can see why you might choose it instead.
